On iPhone or iPad, Chrome has a Safari import flow for a password export saved in Files. In either case, the export is unencrypted: confirm the transfer, then delete the file.
Import Safari passwords to Chrome on a computer
On a Mac or PC, Chrome imports password data from a CSV file using Google Password Manager. Export your website passwords from Safari first. Safari’s exact export controls can vary by macOS version; Google’s computer import instructions point to Safari’s export guidance rather than prescribing one Mac menu sequence.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Keep the exported file secure
A password export is not protected like a password manager. Apple warns: “Your exported passwords are not encrypted and are visible to anyone who can access the file.” Google likewise warns that someone using the device can open the file if it is left there. Delete it once the import is confirmed; do not leave it in Downloads, Desktop, Trash, or a shared folder.
Why some Safari passwords may be missing
-
Some iPhone exports omit credentials. Apple says its documented iPhone export excludes Wi-Fi passwords, passwords shared with a group unless you created that group, and Sign in with Apple account passwords. This limitation is specific to Apple’s documented iPhone export; it is not established here as applying identically to every macOS version.

An entry may have a different label. Google notes that app or site labels may not map as expected during import. Search Google Password Manager for the service name if you do not see an entry where expected.
-
A duplicate may have replaced an existing password. On iPhone or iPad, review Chrome’s preview and replacement choice before confirming the import.
-
The CSV may have a formatting issue. For a computer import, verify the file is a CSV and its first row includes
