The Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus is an M.2 NVMe SSD built for PCIe 4.0 x4 systems. Its TLC NAND and DRAM make it a high-performance option on paper, but its actual speed depends on the host connection, cooling, and workload. Before buying, confirm that your device has an NVMe-capable M.2 socket and check the endurance and warranty terms for the exact capacity.
What the Rocket 4 Plus offers
Sabrent lists the Rocket 4 Plus as a PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 NVMe drive compliant with NVMe 1.3. Its product specifications also identify TLC NAND with DRAM and SMART/TRIM support. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. See Sabrent’s product information.

- Fast interface for a compatible system. PCIe 4.0 x4 provides the interface the drive is designed for, and Sabrent says it is backward compatible with PCIe 3.0 and 2.0 M.2 sockets.
- TLC NAND with DRAM. This is the architecture Sabrent specifies for the drive, which may appeal to users looking beyond entry-level SSD designs.
- Capacity choices. The family has been listed in several capacities, including high-capacity options, though the exact range available depends on the listing and market.
- Historical independent review context. Tom’s Hardware and Windows Central published comparative coverage, while Techtesters’ 2022 video covered sequential performance, consistency, thermals, workload, and pricing. These are useful for understanding test conditions and trade-offs, not proof of how the drive ranks against current models. Techtesters disclosed that Sabrent supplied the product. Cons and practical caveats
- Host bandwidth can limit it. In a PCIe 3.0 or 2.0 socket, the drive can operate at the slower interface’s bandwidth; installing it in an older socket does not provide PCIe 4.0 speeds.
- It needs NVMe support. An M.2 slot alone does not guarantee compatibility. Verify that the socket supports NVMe, not only a different M.2 storage protocol. Sabrent also cautions that boot support on older systems using an enclosure or adapter is not guaranteed.
- Cooling is system-dependent. Sabrent recommends an M.2 heatsink, and its manual discusses heat management and throttling. A motherboard or console may already provide suitable cooling, so check the host before purchasing an additional heatsink. Sabrent manuals and downloads.
- Warranty and endurance vary by capacity. The 8TB product page lists 3000TBW and a one-year warranty, extended to five years with registration. Windows Central’s review-era coverage reports 2800TBW for the 4TB model. These figures should not be assumed for every capacity; confirm the exact SKU and current registration terms with Sabrent. What speed claims do—and don’t—tell you
Windows Central reported a manufacturer-rated sequential read ceiling of up to 7,100MB/s for the product family. “Up to” is a rated maximum, not a guaranteed real-world result. Host generation, workload, cooling, and other test conditions affect measured performance. Historical review results help show how the drive behaved in those reviews, but they do not establish its standing against current SSDs.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For a meaningful comparison, look for tests using workloads like yours, including sustained or mixed-use performance where relevant. Also compare the exact capacity’s endurance and warranty, cooling arrangement, interface compatibility, and current cost per usable terabyte. Current street pricing and a direct comparison with today’s alternatives are not established here, so no present-day value winner can be named.
Check compatibility before you buy
- Find your computer or console’s storage specifications and confirm it has an available M.2 socket that supports NVMe.
- Check the socket’s PCIe generation. A PCIe 3.0 or 2.0 connection can accept the drive according to Sabrent, but the slower interface limits bandwidth.
- Confirm that the physical slot and device support the drive’s M.2 format, and check whether the system already has an M.2 heatsink or other suitable cooling.
- If you plan to use an enclosure or adapter—especially on an older system—verify boot support and device compatibility rather than assuming they will work.
- Choose a capacity, then check that SKU’s endurance rating, warranty, and registration conditions on the current product page.
Who should consider it?
The Rocket 4 Plus may suit someone with a compatible NVMe M.2 system who wants a PCIe 4.0 drive with TLC NAND and DRAM, particularly when choosing among the capacities actually available. It is a less straightforward fit if the host is limited to an older interface, lacks NVMe support, or needs cooling the system cannot provide. Whether it is worth buying today depends on its current price and how it compares with alternatives under the same capacity, workload, warranty, and thermal criteria.
