Public product pages do not agree on two practical specifications. Russell Hobbs Australia lists a 3m cord, while CHOICE lists 2.8m. The Good Guys also lists 3m. For weight, The Good Guys gives 1.3kg and CHOICE lists 0.9kg. The sources do not explain whether these differences come from measurement methods, variants or another cause, so neither figure should be treated as definitively reconciled.

What independent testing can—and cannot—tell you
CHOICE’s public page confirms the exact model and provides some specifications, including automatic shut-off timing. Its expert rating, performance and ease-of-use scores, recommendation and member-only pros and cons are not publicly visible. The public page therefore does not support a claim that CHOICE recommends the RHC902 or a verdict about its test performance.

The Good Guys listing showed 4.6 out of 5 from 65 customer reviews and a 91% recommendation figure when accessed on 8 October 2026. These are retailer-reported customer responses, not controlled product testing. The retailer says review summaries may be AI-generated and reviews may be incentivised. Russell Hobbs also says it received Canstar Blue’s 2025 Most Satisfied Customers award for irons, with five-star ratings in several categories. That is a manufacturer statement about a brand/category award, not a test result for this particular iron.

Automatic shut-off and safe use
The RHC902AU manual specifies shut-off after 30 seconds when the iron is motionless on its soleplate or side, and after eight minutes when it is upright on its heel. The indicator blinks until the iron is moved. Automatic shut-off is a safety feature, not permission to leave a plugged-in iron unattended: the manual states, “This appliance must be attended whilst plugged in.” Switch off and unplug it when it is not in use.
- Follow the garment’s care-label instructions and sort clothes from lower to higher temperature settings.
- Unplug the iron before filling or emptying the tank.
- The manual permits tap water. In hard-water areas, it advises distilled water suitable for irons and warns against chemically descaled or softened water.

Cleaning and storing the RHC902
Use self-clean to manage mineral deposits
The manual recommends using the self-clean function at least monthly in areas with normal water and more often where water is hard. Carry out the procedure over a sink or bowl with the soleplate facing down, and take care: hot water and steam can escape.

Empty and cool the iron before storage
- Switch off, unplug the iron and empty any remaining water.
- Let it cool fully, then wipe away moisture.
- Store it upright on its heel. The manual says this helps avoid corrosion and soleplate damage.
Who should consider it?
The RHC902 is a plausible option if you want a basic corded iron and value the listed ceramic soleplate, anti-drip feature, self-clean function and automatic shut-off. Its published steam output and tank size give you concrete specifications to compare with another model, but they do not establish ironing performance. If independent test results are central to your decision, the public CHOICE information is insufficient to rank this iron against alternatives.
