Choose a Rune Slayer class by the combat loop you want: Archer for bow attacks at range, Priest for healing and support, Magician for staff-based magic damage, or one of four melee styles—Warrior, Thief, Striker, and Samurai. The community Rune Slayer Wiki lists seven base classes and says each class’s subclass path opens at level 30. There is no verified universal “best” class; the right fit depends on your preferred range, weapon, and role.
Rune Slayer’s seven classes at a glance
The class and weapon descriptions below come from community-maintained Rune Slayer Wiki pages, not an official developer guide or independent class testing. The roster includes Samurai; an older result that lists six classes may be out of date. Class details can change as the game updates.

How to choose by range, weapon, and role
Pick your preferred distance
- Stay at long range: Archer is the explicit bow specialist. Priest and Magician also attack with staff magic, though their roles differ: Priest supports allies, while Magician focuses on magic damage.
- Fight up close: Warrior, Thief, Striker, and Samurai center on melee combat. Their weapons and rhythms are different, so choose based on whether you want sword-and-shield options, daggers, gauntlets, or a katana.
Choose the job you want to do in a group
- Heal and enable allies: Priest is the clearest support choice, with healing, buffs, and holy attacks.
- Apply pressure from range: Archer combines ranged attacks with a mark that increases the damage the marked enemy takes.
- Bring melee attacks with defensive tools: Warrior has a Counter stance and a defense-oriented Battle Aura branch; Striker’s kit also includes defensive timing alongside close-range attacks.
- Focus on spell damage: Magician is the direct fit for staff-based offensive magic.
Match the weapon feel
Warrior uses a sword and can access shields; Archer uses a bow; Thief fights with daggers; Striker uses fists and gauntlet-type weapons; Magician and Priest use staves; Samurai uses a katana. The wiki’s Weapons page describes class weapon access and associated weapon-stat families. Check that page and current in-game information when planning around weapon stats, since class documentation may lag updates.

Warrior: flexible, direct melee
Warrior is described as a sword-centered class with strength and stamina growth, heavy armor, shield access, and a mix of attack and defense. Slashing Strike and Charge support direct engagement, while Counter gives the class a defensive stance. Battle Aura branches are described around damage, speed, or defense. Consider Warrior if you want options for how to approach melee without committing to a purely offensive or support role.

Archer: long-range pressure
Archer is described with agility growth and medium armor. Its listed skills include Power Shot, Evasive Shot, Hunter’s Mark, Arrow Rain, and Whirling Arrow. Hunter’s Mark increases the damage the marked enemy takes; Arrow Rain is among the named area attacks. This kit suits players who prefer to maintain distance and pressure a marked target or a cluster of enemies.
Thief: mobility and burst windows
Thief uses daggers and is described as a quick-attacking class with agility, stamina, and strength growth and medium armor. Its listed skills include Piercing Strike, Weapon Throw, Liver Shot, Ambush, and Deathmark. The page also lists backstab damage, bleed on critical hits, and double jump among its passives. Those tools point to a playstyle built around positioning and quick damage opportunities; they do not establish a universal PvE or PvP advantage.

Magician: staff-based offensive magic
Magician is listed with intellect and spirit growth and light armor. Its named abilities include Magic Arrow, Arcane Armor, mana-support abilities, Overload, and Arcane Storm. The community Spells page says class-based spells unlock by leveling Magician or Priest and that magic-based classes make spells more effective. Choose Magician for a magic-centered damage role; the available descriptions do not establish current spell rankings or an optimal build.

Priest: healing, buffs, and holy damage
Priest is a staff-based magic class described as focused on ally healing and buffs, with holy damage against enemies. Its listed skills include Holy Light, Holy Shield, Dispell, Holy Fire, Flash Heal, and resurrection. Cleric is its listed subclass. The wiki advises keeping distance because of Priest’s low health and armor; treat that as community guidance, not a tested guarantee about how to play.
Samurai: swift katana combat
Samurai is described as a swift melee class using a katana and medium armor. Its page characterizes its damage as more sustained than Thief’s burst damage. That is a qualitative playstyle distinction in the wiki, not an independently established damage ranking. Orochi is its listed subclass.

How subclasses and multiclassing work
The community Classes page says a subclass becomes available after reaching level 30 in the chosen class. Its listed branches are Warrior into Sword Master, Knight, or Berserker; Archer into Sharpshooter or Beast Tamer; Thief into Assassin or Ninja; Striker into Asura or Monk; Magician into Warlock or Sorcerer; Priest into Cleric; and Samurai into Orochi. Treat level 30 as the wiki’s stated progression point and check the live game for current requirements.
The same page describes multiclassing but warns that adding another class does not transfer that class’s stat scaling or armor access. Its examples say adding Thief does not grant Thief’s agility scaling, and adding Warrior does not grant heavy armor. Do not choose a second class on the assumption that it automatically supplies the first class’s core attributes or equipment permissions.

A practical way to make your choice
- Decide your range: Choose Archer for bow-focused long-range play, a staff class for magic, or one of the four melee classes for close combat.
- Pick a weapon and rhythm: Choose among sword and shield options, bow, daggers, gauntlets, staff, or katana. If you are choosing between Thief and Samurai, the wiki’s distinction is quick burst versus more sustained damage.
- Set your role: Choose Priest if healing and ally support appeal to you; choose Archer for ranged pressure and marking; choose Warrior or Striker if you want melee combat with defensive tools; choose Magician for offensive magic.
- Revisit the subclass branch at level 30: The wiki lists multiple branches for most base classes, giving you a later point to choose a more specific direction.
The available class pages do not establish current PvE or PvP rankings, beginner success rates, or comparable build performance. Skill names and unlock details are documented, but numeric ability descriptions may not match the live game. Use them as a starting point for understanding each class’s intended feel, then verify current details in-game.
