What the $9.97 offer actually includes
Macworld’s sponsored DealPost, credited to StackCommerce, lists Windows 11 Pro for $9.97 against a $199 reference price, with the promotion ending October 4, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. PT. The deal page states that the license is for one installation, is nontransferable, and must be redeemed within 30 days. It also warns that StackSocial prices can change. These are the promotion’s stated terms, not a general description of every Windows retail license. Review the checkout page and its full license terms before purchasing. The offer page’s “lifetime” wording should not be taken by itself as proof of what perpetual use rights apply: the seller authorization, license channel, and checkout price have not been independently verified here. Confirm the applicable terms with the seller before relying on the license.

Apple silicon: check app and feature compatibility
On supported M1, M2, and M3 Macs, the documented local route is a Windows 11 Arm virtual machine in Parallels Desktop. Windows Arm can emulate many x86 and x64 apps, but compatibility depends on the particular app, devices, and workload. Microsoft notes that some graphics and gaming workloads can differ, especially those requiring DirectX 12. The documented setup also does not support nested-virtualization features; Microsoft names Windows Sandbox and Windows Subsystem for Linux among affected experiences. If you depend on a specific app, peripheral, game, or Windows feature, verify its compatibility before buying the license or VM software.
Microsoft says, “Windows 11 runs best on a PC designed for Windows.” Its guidance identifies the supported Parallels versions and chips above; it does not establish compatibility for newer Mac chips or later Parallels versions. Check Microsoft’s current guidance for the configuration you plan to use.

Intel Macs: Boot Camp is not the same setup
Apple’s Boot Camp instructions apply to supported Intel-based Mac models and install Windows 10. Boot Camp creates a separate Windows partition, and switching operating systems requires restarting and choosing macOS or Windows. Apple specifies at least 64 GB of free storage and recommends at least 128 GB for a better experience; some installations also require a USB flash drive of 16 GB or larger. Those requirements and instructions come from Apple’s Boot Camp installation guide. They should not be read as instructions for installing Windows 11 on every Intel Mac.
Windows 11 minimum requirements are not a compatibility guarantee
Microsoft’s published Windows 11 minimums include a compatible 64-bit processor or system on a chip with at least two cores and a speed of 1 GHz, 4 GB of RAM, and 64 GB of storage. The system also needs UEFI firmware that supports Secure Boot, TPM 2.0, DirectX 12-compatible graphics with a WDDM 2.0 driver, and a display larger than 9 inches with 720p resolution. These are Windows PC minimums, not proof that a particular Mac VM or application will work well. Microsoft cautions that some apps need more than the operating-system minimum, and virtualization adds its own hardware and feature limits. Assess the software you need—not only whether the Mac appears to meet a baseline spec.

Work out the total setup and license terms
- Windows license: The promotion sells a Windows 11 Pro license under its stated terms. Microsoft says each VM needs its own Windows Pro license.
- Virtualization software: For the documented Apple-silicon local setup, Parallels Desktop is separate; its product page says it does not include a Windows license.
- Mac-specific requirements: Boot Camp has Apple’s Intel-model, storage, and installation-media requirements. A virtual machine has compatibility limits tied to the Mac, Windows Arm, and the workload.
- Offer terms: Treat the price, redemption window, and one-machine/nontransferable terms as claims on this specific promotion page. Confirm the final price and applicable license terms at checkout.
