RTX 5070 vs. RTX 5070 Ti: Which One Is the Better Upgrade?

The RTX 5070 Ti brings more speed and 16 GB of memory; the RTX 5070 costs less. Compare test results, system requirements, and your actual price gap before upgrading.

The RTX 5070 Ti is the faster, higher-memory option; the RTX 5070 is the more sensible buy when it costs substantially less and its performance is enough for your games. In Tom’s Hardware’s rasterization tests, the Ti led by 20% at 1440p and 24% at 4K. Those are results from that review suite, not guaranteed gains in every game. Because current October 2026 prices have not been verified here, the better value depends on the prices you can actually find.

What separates the RTX 5070 from the RTX 5070 Ti?

NVIDIA’s reference specifications show that the Ti has more processing resources and memory, alongside higher power requirements. Exact board dimensions, cooling, clocks, connectors, and manufacturer recommendations vary by model.

CUDA cores 6,144 8,960
Memory 12 GB GDDR7 16 GB GDDR7
Total graphics power 250 W 300 W
Required system power recommendation 650 W 750 W

How much faster is the RTX 5070 Ti?

Tom’s Hardware found the RTX 5070 to be 20% slower than the RTX 5070 Ti at 1440p and 24% slower at 4K in its rasterization gaming tests. That supports choosing the Ti when you want more conventional rendering performance and headroom, especially at 4K. Individual game results can differ, and these percentages should not be treated as a universal uplift.

NVIDIA’s own performance comparison uses DLSS Super Resolution and Ray Reconstruction, with Multi Frame Generation 4X enabled on RTX 50-series cards in its stated 1440p maximum-settings comparison. That is a feature-assisted comparison, not a measure of native-rendering performance. Tom’s Hardware RTX 5070 rasterization results · NVIDIA specifications and performance comparison

Does the Ti’s extra 4 GB of VRAM matter?

The 5070 Ti’s 16 GB versus the 5070’s 12 GB can be useful in demanding games, with high-resolution textures, or in workloads that use substantial GPU memory. It is a concrete capacity advantage, but it does not guarantee a specific lifespan or performance improvement: the impact depends on what you run and how it uses memory.

Which card is the better value?

NVIDIA announced US launch MSRPs of $549 for the RTX 5070 and $749 for the RTX 5070 Ti in January 2025, a $200 launch gap. These are historical launch prices, not verified October 2026 street prices. Compare the actual prices of comparable models where you shop; the Ti’s performance advantage is more compelling when the live premium is manageable, while a large gap favors the 5070 if it already meets your needs. Which card makes sense for your current GPU?

Choose the RTX 5070 Ti if you want more headroom

  • You are targeting 4K or demanding settings and value the additional performance shown in Tom’s Hardware’s rasterization suite.
  • You have games or GPU workloads that can benefit from 16 GB rather than 12 GB of memory.
  • The Ti’s actual price premium fits your budget, and your system can accommodate the specific card.

Choose the RTX 5070 if the savings matter more

  • You play at 1440p and are comfortable with lower performance than the Ti in exchange for a lower purchase price.
  • The current price gap is large enough that the Ti’s additional speed and memory are not worth the extra cost to you.
  • Your power supply, case, or budget makes the lower-power reference specification a better starting point—after checking the chosen board’s requirements.

Think carefully before upgrading from an RTX 4070 Super

In TechSpot’s 16-game 1440p test suite, the RTX 5070 averaged 1% faster than the RTX 4070 Super in that review’s configuration. That points to a small uplift for this particular comparison, not a meaningful upgrade for every owner or workload. Buyers moving from an older or slower GPU may have a different case for either 5070 model. TechSpot’s RTX 5070 review

Check fit and power before buying

NVIDIA recommends a 650 W system power supply for the RTX 5070 and 750 W for the RTX 5070 Ti reference designs. The recommendation depends on the rest of the system, and partner cards can differ. Before ordering, confirm the exact card’s PSU guidance and connectors, plus its length and thickness against your case clearance. Do not assume a card will fit or that a power supply is adequate based only on the GPU name.
