Yes, community mods can bring frame-generation paths to some games on RTX 30-series GPUs, but there is no universal fix. The right route depends on whether the game already supports DLSS frame generation, whether it runs in DirectX 12, or whether you want to experiment with NVIDIA Smooth Motion compatibility. These are unofficial projects with game-, driver- and configuration-specific risks—not newly unlocked NVIDIA features.
Which RTX 30 frame-generation mod fits your game?
“Frame generation mod” can mean three different things here. Use this comparison to identify which path is even relevant before changing game files.

| Approach | What it does | What the game needs | Maturity and main caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| NVSmooth30 | Experiments with compatibility for NVIDIA Smooth Motion’s driver-level path on SM86/RTX 30 hardware. | The project aims to expose Smooth Motion compatibility in games; broad, game-by-game support is not established. | Alpha. Driver behavior or runtime compatibility may change; crashes, corrupted frames, black screens or driver resets are possible. |
| OptiScaler OptiFG | Experimental frame-generation injection through OptiScaler. | A DirectX 12 game; native frame generation is not required by the documented OptiFG route. | Experimental and DX12-only. Compatibility varies, and FSR3 frame generation may show HUD ghosting without HUDfix. |
| OptiScaler with Nukem’s DLSSG-to-FSR3 integration | Replaces a game’s existing DLSS frame-generation path with FSR3 frame generation. | The game must already have native DLSS frame generation. | Per-game compatibility still applies. It does not add frame generation to a game with no native DLSS-FG path. |
OptiScaler supports different upscaling functionality across DirectX 11, DirectX 12 and Vulkan, but its experimental OptiFG feature is specifically for DX12. Check its compatibility list and known issues for the game you intend to use.
What NVSmooth30 does—and what it does not promise
NVSmooth30 describes itself as a clean-room, source-available compatibility experiment for running NVIDIA’s NvPresent64.dll Smooth Motion path on SM86 hardware, including RTX 30-series GPUs. It changes runtime compatibility behavior; it does not add an official NVIDIA feature to those cards. The project says it is not NVIDIA software and does not contain NVIDIA binaries or copied source code.

TechRadar reported on September 24, 2026 that NVSmooth30 had been confirmed working on an RTX 3050 laptop and an RTX 3080 desktop. Those are two reported examples, not a guarantee for every RTX 30 card, driver, or game. The project documentation does not establish a complete game compatibility list.
Setup described by the project
The README describes a Windows 10 or Windows 11 setup. Treat the instructions as specific to the current project release and check its documentation before proceeding:
Rank #2
- Chipset: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060
- Video Memory: 12GB GDDR6
- Memory Interface: 192-bit
- Output: DisplayPort x 3 (v1.4a) / HDMI 2.1 x 1.Avoid using unofficial software
- Digital maximum resolution: 7680 x 4320
- Keep a backup of the original game files.
- Place the project’s
version.dllproxy beside the game executable. - Use NVIDIA Profile Inspector to enable Smooth Motion for that game, then apply the setting.
- Launch the game. Do not copy
NvPresent64.dll; the mod is intended to load the installed driver copy.
The README says to apply the Profile Inspector setting again after a driver update. Its alpha status reflects a technical uncertainty: the experiment is based on observed behavior of one reference driver DLL build, and NVIDIA may change behavior or binary formats. The project says it rejects unknown binary layouts rather than patching them, but warns that driver resets, crashes, corrupted frames and black screens remain possible.

OptiScaler is middleware for games that expose supported temporal upscaling inputs, such as DLSS 2+, FSR 2+ or XeSS. It can replace the selected upscaler and manage frame-generation options. Its experimental OptiFG route is the documented option for adding frame generation in a DX12 game that lacks native frame generation.

This is separate from the Nukem DLSSG-to-FSR3 integration. That route substitutes FSR3 frame generation for a game’s existing DLSS-FG path, so a game without native DLSS frame generation does not meet its stated prerequisite. For OptiFG, the project notes HUD ghosting considerations with FSR3-FG and says compatibility differs between games.

- Anti-cheat and online play: Do not use these mods in competitive or anti-cheat-protected games. OptiScaler warns that a mod may trigger anti-cheat and cause bans; NVSmooth30 also says not to use it in protected games.
- Game files and stability: Preserve original files and follow the project’s current instructions. NVSmooth30 specifically warns about driver resets, crashes, corrupted frames and black screens.
- Changing compatibility: Check the relevant project’s current compatibility information and known issues for your game, API and driver. A result on one GPU or game does not establish support on another.
- Download authenticity: OptiScaler identifies its GitHub, Discord and Nitec’s Nexus Mods page as official distribution locations and warns about fake sites. It says the project is free; payment demands are scams. NVSmooth30’s project page is its GitHub repository.
Neither project should be treated as an official NVIDIA release. The available project documentation and reporting do not establish a general performance gain or image-quality result for these mods.

How to choose a route
- If your game already has native DLSS frame generation and you want to replace that path, investigate OptiScaler with DLSSG-to-FSR3.
- If the game is DX12 and has no native frame generation, OptiScaler’s experimental OptiFG is the relevant route to investigate.
- If you want to try NVIDIA Smooth Motion compatibility on an RTX 30-series GPU, NVSmooth30 is the alpha experiment, subject to its driver and game risks.
