There is no sufficiently transparent, current head-to-head evidence to name the fastest VPN in Athens or guarantee that a VPN will play Greek TV from abroad. Proton VPN and NordVPN both document Greek-location options, so they are candidates to compare—not proven winners. A Greek server can give you a Greek IP address, but streaming access still depends on the broadcaster’s rules and VPN detection.
What makes a VPN useful for Greece?
A VPN sends your traffic through a provider’s server. When you choose a server in Greece, websites see that server’s Greek IP address rather than your usual public IP. That can help when you are abroad and want a Greek online location, or when you are in Greece and want a VPN connection for privacy.

A Greek IP does not guarantee access to Greek television or another location-restricted service. Broadcasters may apply rights restrictions, account rules or VPN detection. Check the service’s terms and test the exact channel, device and VPN server you intend to use.
VPNs with documented Greek locations
The official provider information available for this comparison confirms Greek-location offerings from Proton VPN and NordVPN. It does not establish that either is faster in Athens or more reliable for Greek TV.

| Provider | What the available evidence says | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Proton VPN | Its official Greece page says it offers multiple servers in Greece with 10 Gbps capacity, Greek IP access, WireGuard support and apps for major platforms, including TVs. | The 10 Gbps figure is the provider’s server-capacity claim, not a measured customer speed. The page does not prove current Athens performance or access to any particular Greek TV service. |
| NordVPN | Its official server directory lists Greece as a one-city location. A separate support page lists Athens for dedicated IP addresses. | The dedicated-IP listing does not show that all standard shared Greek servers are physically in Athens. The location listing does not establish speed or streaming success. |
How to read the Athens location claims
Proton VPN reported on October 22, 2019 that it had installed eight servers in an Athens data center. That is historical launch information, not a current server count or performance measurement. NordVPN’s Athens listing applies specifically to its dedicated-IP offering; its standard directory identifies Greece as a one-city location without naming that city in the cited listing.
Can you identify the fastest VPN in Athens?
Not from the evidence available here. VPN Advisor’s page, updated in May 2026, says it tested six VPNs, conducted 342 speed tests and streamed for more than 180 hours across Athens, Thessaloniki and Heraklion. It describes using Greek IPs and an iPerf3 server, with streaming checks that included ERT Play, Netflix Greece and the US, Disney+ and COSMOTE TV. These are the publisher’s reported methods; the results available here are not transparent enough to validate a speed winner. The same page’s headline refers to 12 providers, while its described testing covers six, so those counts should not be treated as interchangeable. See VPN Advisor’s Greece comparison.

A useful Athens speed comparison needs repeated tests under consistent conditions, not a provider’s server-capacity figure or a single speed test. For each result, record:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Tester’s ISP and physical test location, plus the time and date.
- Baseline speeds with the VPN disconnected.
- VPN protocol and the specific Greek server selected.
- Latency, download speed and upload speed.
- Results from repeated runs, ideally at different times.
Without those details, speed claims are difficult to compare. The best choice for one connection may not be the best for another.

Will a VPN let you watch Greek TV from abroad?
It might, but do not treat a Greek IP as a playback guarantee. VPN Greek’s April 13, 2026 article says NordVPN and Surfshark can access named Greek channels from abroad, but the available material does not provide enough reproducible detail to confirm each channel’s current behavior. That is the publisher’s claim, not a guarantee. See VPN Greek’s article.
Test the exact on-demand service or channel you want, on the device you will use, with the provider’s Greek server you plan to select. Streaming availability can change as broadcasters apply rights rules or identify VPN traffic. Confirm the broadcaster’s own terms before relying on a VPN for access.

How to choose between the documented options
- Confirm the location you need. Check whether Greece appears in the provider’s server list and whether the city matters. Do not assume a dedicated-IP city listing describes the provider’s standard shared servers.
- Check the device before subscribing. Proton VPN says it offers apps for major platforms, including TVs; verify current app availability for your particular device. This comparison does not establish NordVPN’s TV app support.
- Test the service you care about. If Greek TV is the reason for a VPN, check the exact broadcaster, show or on-demand service, device and server rather than relying on broad “stream from anywhere” language.
- Assess privacy separately. Review the provider’s privacy policy and the scope of any independent audits or other assurance. Comparable audit details for all providers were not established here, so a Greek location or speed result is not evidence of privacy quality.
- Check current terms and pricing directly. Prices, discounts, refund rules and subscription terms can change; no current price comparison is established here.
What this comparison can—and cannot—recommend
Proton VPN and NordVPN are reasonable candidates to investigate if you need a Greek VPN location, because each documents one. Proton’s Greece page also describes WireGuard, TV apps and multiple 10 Gbps servers, but these are provider statements, not independent Athens speed or Greek-TV results. The available evidence does not support naming a fastest Athens VPN or promising reliable access to any particular Greek channel.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor a decision based on performance, use current, documented tests from your own location and connection where possible. For TV, verify the broadcaster’s terms and test playback on the specific service and device before depending on it.
