Neither device is the better choice for everyone. For a precise 2026 comparison, look at the Roku Streaming Stick 4K (model 3820R2) and the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K (3rd Gen, 2026). Roku is the stronger fit if Dolby Vision matters to you; Amazon’s Fire TV is a better fit if you want Wi-Fi 6, Direct Power from a compatible TV USB port, or Alexa and Amazon integration. Those are feature-based recommendations, not results of a head-to-head performance test.

Both products are specific generations, not interchangeable examples of “Roku” and “Firestick.” Amazon lists the 2026 Fire TV Stick 4K separately from its 2023 Fire TV Stick 4K and 4K Max, which have their own specifications. Check the exact model listing before buying, especially if a particular HDR format is important to you.

Which one should you buy?
Choose Roku if Dolby Vision is important
Roku documents Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support on the Streaming Stick 4K. That makes it the more straightforward option of these two if your TV supports Dolby Vision and you want that format. HDR playback also depends on compatible content and a compatible display; a 4K stick cannot add HDR capability to a TV that lacks it.
Choose Fire TV if you want Wi-Fi 6 or direct USB power
The 2026 Fire TV Stick 4K documents Wi-Fi 6 and Direct Power, which lets it draw power from a compatible television USB port. Check that the port supplies suitable power before planning to use it; USB ports differ between TVs. Amazon is also the natural fit if you prefer its Alexa and Amazon ecosystem.

Choose by platform and local service availability
App and service availability can differ by country and can change over time. Before choosing either platform, confirm that the services you actually watch are available in your region. Roku advertises more than 500 free live TV channels, but that is Roku’s own current product-page claim, not an independently audited count or a guarantee that every channel is available to every viewer. Streaming still requires internet access, and some services require paid subscriptions.
Picture quality: 4K is not the whole comparison
Both sticks support 4K, but the HDR format difference is material: Roku lists Dolby Vision and HDR10+, while Amazon lists HDR10+ for the 2026 Fire TV Stick 4K. A TV and the specific show or film must support the format for you to benefit from it. Roku says its stick works with a TV that has HDMI; on a lower-resolution television, it outputs at the resolution the TV supports.

Do not assume an older Fire TV Stick 4K specification applies to the 2026 third-generation model. Amazon’s device table distinguishes the 2026 model from the 2023 4K and 4K Max devices. For the exact configuration, use the Amazon Fire TV device specifications.
Wi-Fi and setup: compare the feature, not a speed promise
Amazon specifies Wi-Fi 6 for the 2026 Fire TV Stick 4K. Roku describes long-range Wi-Fi for the Streaming Stick 4K. These manufacturer descriptions do not establish which device will be faster or more reliable in your home: actual results depend on your router, signal, internet service, placement, and network conditions. Wi-Fi 6 is most relevant if your router and home network can use it.

Roku’s included Voice Remote controls TV power, volume, and mute. Amazon highlights Direct Power as an alternative to relying on a separate power connection, but only when the television’s USB port provides suitable power. Check both the included accessories and the current product listing for your region before purchase.
What the price snapshots do—and do not—tell you
Prices are retailer offers at particular times, not stable differences between the devices. Roku’s product page showed a $79.99 list price and $44.99 limited-time offer when checked. Tom’s Guide reported on October 6, 2026 that the new Fire TV Stick 4K was offered for $29 against a stated $59 price during a Prime Day promotion. The promotion may have ended, and eligibility or availability can vary. Compare the current checkout price in your country rather than treating either figure as evergreen.

What cannot be determined from the published specifications
The available product information does not establish a universal winner on responsiveness, reliability, privacy, advertising, accessibility, or long-term software support. Nor does a listed Wi-Fi feature prove a real-world speed advantage. Without controlled, same-condition testing, those points should not be treated as settled differences between these two sticks.

Roku’s phrase that the Streaming Stick 4K is the “easiest way” to upgrade a 4K TV is Roku’s product-page marketing copy, not an independent finding. Its more concrete claims—such as supported formats, remote controls, and the advertised free-channel count—are more useful for comparing the models.
