Bell and TELUS were named Global Leaders for 5G Coverage Experience, while Rogers and TELUS received Global Leader recognition for 5G Reliability in Opensignal’s 2026 Global 5G awards. The reported Canadian coverage scores were 6.7 out of 10 for both Bell and TELUS; TELUS scored 975.3 out of 1,000 for reliability and Rogers scored 970.7. These are Global Leader recognitions—not the awards’ Global Winner titles.

Global Leader is a recognition tier, not the same designation as Global Winner. In the reports, T-Mobile in the United States was the 5G Coverage Experience Global Winner, with a reported score of 8.4 out of 10. Japan’s au and SoftBank were the 5G Reliability Global Winners, scoring 981.4 and 980.5 out of 1,000 respectively. Those results provide context for the award labels; they do not make the different category scores interchangeable.

Coverage and reliability measure different things
5G Coverage Experience: where service reaches
Coverage Experience assesses the geographic reach of a 5G network within a market while accounting for population density, then reports a score on a 10-point scale. It is a measure of reach, not a guarantee that every address has service or that performance will be identical throughout a carrier’s coverage area.

5G Reliability: how well a connected session holds up
Reliability concerns whether users can complete everyday tasks consistently once connected to 5G. As MobileSyrup explains, it does not measure the likelihood of making an initial 5G connection; it evaluates whether the connection maintains sufficient quality for those tasks. Its 1,000-point scale is distinct from the coverage scale, so the scores cannot be compared directly.
What the awards can—and cannot—tell you
The awards offer a national-level comparison across two specific aspects of 5G experience. They do not establish which carrier will work best at your home, workplace, commute, or usual travel routes, nor do they settle how a particular plan or device will perform. Local coverage and actual experience can vary, so use the awards as context rather than as a substitute for checking service where you need it.

The TELUS release about being Canada’s most-awarded network refers to a separate February 2026 Canadian report, not these September 2026 global awards. The two award cycles should not be conflated; see TELUS’s release for its description of the separate report.
