Match the model to the joint’s torque, mass, space and voltage requirements, then verify its CAN hardware, control mode and firmware against the software stack you plan to use.
What is a RobStride integrated actuator?
RobStride describes the RS00 as an integrated motor, reducer and driver for robot joints and other applications. The integration can simplify a joint’s component layout, but it does not make every RobStride model electrically or software-compatible with every host or CAN adapter. Start with the documentation for the exact model you intend to install.

The figures below are specifications listed on RobStride’s product pages; those pages did not state a publication year in the available search results. They are not independent measurements or a head-to-head performance test. RobStride uses “peak load” on some pages and “peak torque” on another, so the labels are preserved rather than treated as a universal test condition.
| Model | Manufacturer-listed peak load or torque | Listed mass | Reduction ratio | What the listed figures suggest |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| RobStride 00 | 14 N·m peak load | 310 g ± 10 g | 10:1 | Compact listed example; the product page identifies robot-joint use. |
| RobStride 01 | 17 N·m peak torque | 380 g | 7.75:1 | Another integrated actuator, with development software referenced on its product page. |
| RobStride 05 | 5.5 N·m peak load | 191 g ± 10 g | 7.75:1 | Lower listed peak-load and mass example among these four models. |
| RobStride 06 | 36 N·m peak load | 621 g ± 10 g | 9:1 | Higher listed peak-load and mass example among these four models. |
Sources for the table: RobStride’s RS00 product page, RS01 product page, RS05 product page and RS06 product page. A peak figure alone does not establish continuous output or suitability for a particular joint; check the full model manual for rated load, thermal limits and operating conditions.

How should you choose a model for a robot joint?
Use the actuator’s complete specification and your robot’s load analysis, not a single peak number. The right choice depends on the required motion and on whether the actuator fits the mechanical, electrical and software constraints of the joint.
- Torque and speed: Determine the joint’s required torque and speed across its operating conditions. Verify rated as well as peak limits, and account for the actuator’s reduction ratio and the robot’s loads.
- Mass and envelope: Compare the listed mass and dimensions with the joint’s weight budget, available volume and the effect of actuator mass on the rest of the mechanism.
- Mounting: Check the exact model’s mounting dimensions and interface against the joint design; do not infer fit from the model name or torque rating.
- Power: Confirm rated and allowable voltage for the selected model, along with the system’s power-delivery requirements. The RS00 product page lists 48 V rated voltage and a 24–60 V range; those values are specific to the RS00 page and should not be carried over to other models.
- Control and feedback: Establish which control modes, encoder behavior and host software the application requires, then confirm those against the selected motor’s documentation and library.
- Thermal environment: Check the model’s thermal and operating limits for the actual duty cycle and enclosure rather than assuming that a listed peak value is continuously available.
The manufacturer pages provide selected parameters, not a substitute for the full manual or system-level validation. Where a required value is absent from a product summary, consult the current documentation for that exact model rather than estimating it from another actuator.

What should you verify about CAN and the host interface?
CAN details are model- and setup-dependent. RobStride’s RS00 page lists a CAN baud rate of 1 Mbps, but that is not a universal setting for every model. Before connecting a host, check the selected motor’s current manual for bitrate, frame format, identifiers, wiring, termination, power requirements and any setup sequence.

The RobStride 04 manual describes a debugging setup in which the joint motor communicates over CAN and connects to a debugger through a CAN-to-USB tool. It recommends a YourCee USB-CAN module for that arrangement and describes a serial protocol frame header of 41 54 and frame tail of 0D 0A. These details document the manual’s RS04 debugging arrangement; they do not establish compatibility for every motor, adapter or host.

A community hardware guide for an RS02 setup discusses SocketCAN-compatible and official RobStride USB-CAN options. Treat it as an implementation reference, not as the authority for another model’s hardware setup. A specific prefabricated cable is not established as a general requirement: verify the connector, wiring and adapter needed for your actual motor and debugger before ordering or assembling anything.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why can a software library fail to control a motor that uses CAN?
Sharing CAN as a physical bus does not guarantee that two devices use the same command protocol, control mode or frame conventions. A library typically has to translate its high-level motor commands into the exact messages expected by the actuator, then transport those messages through an adapter supported by the host.

The community robstride_sdk architecture documentation describes three layers: motor API, protocol serialization and deserialization, and transport. This is a useful way to isolate an integration problem: a command can be correct at the API layer but encoded differently than expected, or correctly encoded but not delivered through a compatible transport.

Community protocol notes describe private-protocol frame details and warn that behavior may differ across firmware revisions. Such references and code repositories can change; use the current manufacturer documentation as the authority for deployment decisions.
What should you record when debugging an integration?
Capture enough information to distinguish a wiring or transport issue from a protocol, control-mode or firmware mismatch. Change one variable at a time, and avoid sharing traces that expose sensitive system information.
- Exact actuator model and firmware version.
- Host, CAN adapter, wiring arrangement, bitrate and other bus settings.
- Selected control mode and the library or driver version in use.
- A redacted CAN trace showing the relevant exchange, with identifiers or payload details obscured if they are sensitive.
- The current official manual or model documentation used to verify the hardware configuration.
If the bus is not communicating, first compare the physical setup and bus parameters with the exact model manual. If frames are exchanged but commands do not produce the expected response, verify the library’s protocol and control-mode assumptions against the motor’s model and firmware. Do not treat a community protocol description as proof that an undocumented firmware combination behaves identically.
