If it loosens, the vehicle could lose drive power while moving, increasing crash risk. Check your vehicle’s VIN and arrange a free inspection or repair through Rivian.
What is the Rivian R2 recall about?
The recall covers a fastener on the high-voltage battery pack that may have been under-torqued during assembly. The concern is not simply a loose part: the condition could lead to a loss of drive power while driving and raise the risk of a crash. The recall is listed as NHTSA campaign 26V625000 and Rivian campaign FSAM-1888. NHTSA recall record
TechCrunch reports that a manufacturing operator at Rivian’s Normal, Illinois, factory discovered an under-torqued fastener on September 17, 2026. Rivian investigated and reprogrammed the automated assembly station so it would reject fasteners that were not torqued correctly. At the time of its filing, Rivian told NHTSA it knew of no customer reports, crashes, injuries, or fatalities related to the issue. TechCrunch’s report
How many vehicles are affected?
The NHTSA recall record lists 14 potentially affected vehicles. That is the recall population, not a claim that every vehicle has a defect. The record identifies certain 2027 R2 SUVs; owners should use the VIN lookup rather than infer eligibility from the model year alone. NHTSA recall record
