Windows 11 version 26H2 reached general availability on September 29, 2026, but Microsoft is rolling it out in phases, so eligible PCs may not receive it at the same time. If your PC runs Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2, install the required update, check Windows Update, and choose Download & install when 26H2 is offered. You do not need an ISO or USB drive for the standard enablement-package upgrade.
How to install Windows 11 26H2 through Windows Update

Open Settings > Windows Update.

When Windows 11 version 26H2 appears, select Download & install, then restart your PC.
Microsoft says the enablement package is distributed through Windows Update, the Microsoft Update Catalog, and Windows Server Update Services (WSUS). For most home users, Windows Update is the straightforward route; a separate ISO or USB installation is not required for this upgrade path. See Microsoft’s Windows Update support instructions.
Why 26H2 may not appear in Windows Update
General availability does not mean simultaneous availability on every PC. Microsoft uses a phased rollout and may temporarily hold an update on devices where compatibility data indicates a problem. A missing offer can therefore reflect rollout timing or a safeguard hold, not necessarily a fault with Windows Update. Home PC: Check that it is on 24H2 or 25H2, install the required cumulative update, enable the latest-updates setting, and wait for the phased offer.

Work or school PC: Ask your IT administrator whether update policies, WSUS deployment, a safeguard hold, or domain configuration affects the device. Do not try to bypass an organization’s compatibility controls.
What kind of upgrade is 26H2?
Microsoft describes 24H2, 25H2, and 26H2 as sharing an identical set of system files. Monthly quality updates can service capabilities in advance, with an enablement package acting as a switch to activate them for the new version. As a result, upgrading from 24H2 or 25H2 is generally a smaller, quicker activation—not a full replacement installation. Microsoft says the package enables the move with a single restart and reduces update downtime; see support article KB5121794. The exact experience can still depend on the device and its update state.

Microsoft’s Windows Insider announcement also identifies 26H2 as an enablement-package release and notes that some of its features may already be familiar from monthly updates: Windows Insider Blog announcement.
What changes compared with 24H2 or 25H2?
The practical difference is not necessarily a long list of entirely new features appearing on upgrade day. Some capabilities have been delivered through monthly updates and may become active with the enablement package. Microsoft specifically says several features are enabled by default for commercial customers.

These support periods are tied to edition and feature-update timing; the rollout date alone does not establish an individual PC’s servicing deadline. Microsoft’s release information is available at Windows 11 release health.

Known compatibility issues to keep in mind
Microsoft’s release-health information lists mitigated reports involving some USB Audio Class 1.0 devices, certain domain-joined devices protected by Credential Guard, and some Azure Virtual Desktop environments using FSLogix. The domain-trust issue concerns Machine Identity Isolation settings and is mainly relevant to managed enterprise environments. These reports do not mean every device in those categories is affected; consult Microsoft’s current issue status and guidance before troubleshooting or changing managed-device settings.
When to get help
If a compatible personal PC still has no offer after the prerequisites are met, allow time for the phased rollout rather than forcing an installation. If Windows Update reports an error or the device is managed, use Microsoft’s Windows upgrade help or Get Help resources, and involve the organization’s administrator where applicable.
