Matrix Quality is the strongest all-round choice in the evidence available for 2026, while Greenlight Guru is the better fit when software design controls, the design history file (DHF), risk management and clinical evidence must stay tightly connected. Qualio suits smaller teams that need a structured QMS without an enterprise rollout, and MasterControl is aimed at larger manufacturers needing broad quality operations and electronic device history records (eDHR).
The eight-platform shortlist also includes Ketryx, Scilife, SimplerQMS and Dot Compliance. Their title-specific listing was not accessible for verification, so this article does not invent feature, price or compliance scores for them. They are included as shortlist candidates requiring an RFP and vendor evidence rather than given unsupported numerical ranks.

Evidence-based ranking
The ranking below weighs the same questions a SaMD buyer should use in an RFP: ISO 13485 and QMSR coverage, Part 11 controls, Design Controls and DHF traceability, ISO 14971 risk workflows, CAPA and complaints, validation evidence, training and supplier controls, data residency, implementation burden and pricing transparency. Only platforms with accessible supporting comparison evidence receive a numbered position.

| — | Scilife | Shortlist candidate pending verification | The title-specific result names Scilife; no directly accessible supporting page was retrieved. | Verify modules, validation package, software-lifecycle coverage and price. |
| — | SimplerQMS | Shortlist candidate pending verification | The title-specific result names SimplerQMS; supporting evidence was not accessible. | Verify ISO 13485/QMSR statements, Design Controls, risk management and validation evidence. |
| — | Dot Compliance | Shortlist candidate pending verification | The title-specific result names Dot Compliance; supporting evidence was not accessible. | Verify Part 11, ISO 13485, SaMD software-lifecycle and implementation claims. |
A dash in the position column means “not responsibly rankable from the available evidence,” not “poor product.” A vendor that answers the verification questions convincingly could move up in a later, fully sourced comparison.

What changed for U.S. medical-device software in 2026?
FDA’s revised 21 CFR part 820 became the Quality Management System Regulation (QMSR) on February 2, 2026. The rule incorporates ISO 13485:2016 by reference; FDA says the ISO requirements, taken together, are substantially similar to the former Quality System regulation. Your eQMS selection therefore needs to support the operating procedures and records your organization must actually control under ISO 13485 and QMSR, rather than relying on an old “Part 820 checklist.”
FDA’s February 2026 Computer Software Assurance guidance describes a risk-based approach for software used in medical-device production or the quality management system. In practice, the important question is not whether a vendor markets an “FDA-validated” badge. It is whether your organization can demonstrate intended use, risk-based testing, controlled changes, access control, audit trails and continuing fitness for use.
Validation: evidence to demand before signing
ISO 13485 section 4.1.6 requires validation of software used in the QMS. Put these artifacts in the RFP and contract rather than accepting a generic compliance statement:

- User requirements specification (URS): the intended functions, users, interfaces, records and retention rules.
- Risk assessment: failure modes, impact on product quality or regulatory records, and the controls selected.
- IQ/OQ/PQ evidence: installation, operational and performance qualification appropriate to the system and its intended use.
- Audit-trail evidence: immutable history showing who changed what, when and, where applicable, why.
- Change-control package: notification, impact assessment, regression testing and revalidation triggers.
- Supplier and security evidence: hosting location, backup and recovery, access administration, incident handling and subcontractor controls.

Why SaMD needs more than document storage
For software as a medical device, the decisive test is traceability across the product lifecycle. Design inputs and outputs, reviews, verification, validation, transfer and changes should link to risk management and post-market processes. A document repository that cannot connect those records forces manual reconciliation and creates audit exposure.
Design Controls and DHF
Look for linked requirements, design outputs, reviews, verification and validation records, approvals and change history. Greenlight Guru is the clearest fit in the available evidence because Design Controls and the DHF are first-class capabilities. Matrix Quality also lists design-adjacent risk, change, document and regulatory modules, but confirm the exact traceability model for your software lifecycle.
Rank #3
- Mix an audio, music and voice tracks
- Record single or multiple tracks simultaneously
- Intuitive tools to split, trim, join, and many other editing features
- Loaded with audio effects including EQ, compression, reverb, and more.
- Load an audio file and export to all popular audio formats from studio quality wav to high compression formats
ISO 14971 risk management
Compare hazard analysis, risk controls, residual-risk evaluation and links from risks to design changes, complaints and CAPA. Do not accept a standalone risk register if a changed requirement or field complaint cannot show its effect on the risk file.
Post-market and quality events
Deviation, nonconformance, complaint, supplier and CAPA workflows should share identifiers and approvals with the relevant product and risk records. This is especially important when a software release, cybersecurity event or clinical signal triggers several quality processes at once.
Platform profiles
1. Matrix Quality
Matrix Quality is the broadest configurable option in this shortlist. Its reported preconfigured workflows and templates cover FDA 21 CFR Part 11, EU Annex 11, ISO 13485 and GxP, with validation alignment included rather than billed as a separate professional-services line. Reported modules span deviations, complaints, nonconformance, suppliers, audits, inspections, change control, documents, training, manufacturing records, regulatory submissions, risk and trial master files.
Rank #4
- Intuitive interface of a conventional FTP client
- Easy and Reliable FTP Site Maintenance.
- FTP Automation and Synchronization
Publisher-reported pricing on September 24, 2026 was Light at $15 per user per month, Plus at $45, Full at $90 and Admin at $125, with a €10,000 minimum annual deal size. These are reported figures, not a guaranteed quote; confirm currency treatment, user definitions, implementation, storage and validation services.
2. Greenlight Guru
Greenlight Guru is the strongest evidence-backed choice when the QMS and product-development record must be one connected system. The comparison describes a medical-device-exclusive platform with Design Controls, DHF, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, FDA Part 820 and Part 11, QMSR, EU MDR and 510(k) support. It is a natural fit for SaMD teams whose audit risk sits in requirements, design changes, risk and clinical evidence rather than manufacturing volume alone.

3. Qualio
Qualio targets SMB and mid-market manufacturers and explicitly includes SaMD among its industries. The documented scope includes documents, Design Controls, risk, training, change, audits, CAPAs, suppliers and analytics. It is a sensible shortlist choice when a smaller quality team needs structured workflows and traceability without the operational breadth of an enterprise manufacturing suite. Confirm its validation package and lifecycle depth for your specific SaMD architecture.
Best Value
- Transform audio playing via your speakers and headphones
- Improve sound quality by adjusting it with effects
- Take control over the sound playing through audio hardware
4. MasterControl
MasterControl is positioned for larger organizations that need Quality Excellence together with Manufacturing Excellence, eDHR and asset capabilities. The available comparison lists ISO 13485, Part 820 and QMSR alignment. It becomes more compelling as manufacturing records, multiple sites and enterprise integrations dominate the requirement; a small software-only startup should model implementation effort carefully.
Ketryx, Scilife, SimplerQMS and Dot Compliance
All four appear in the eight-platform title-specific shortlist, but the supporting pages were not retrievable for this comparison. Treat each as a vendor-verification workstream. Request a live demonstration, current compliance matrix, software-lifecycle and Design Controls documentation, validation deliverables, hosting regions, implementation plan and a three-year commercial proposal before assigning a rank.

Recommended Free Tools
- Subscription tiers, administrator seats, reviewer or external-user charges and annual increases.
- Implementation, configuration, migration, integrations and training.
- Validation planning, testing support, revalidation after upgrades and internal quality-team time.
- Electronic signatures, storage, sandbox environments, API access, reporting and premium support.
- Data-residency requirements, backup, export and termination assistance.
- Additional sites, products, suppliers and users over three years.
Request the quote in the same user and site assumptions so a low entry price cannot hide a high implementation bill.
A practical selection process for a SaMD startup
- Define the regulated scope: markets, product classification, QMSR/ISO 13485 obligations, clinical-evidence needs and post-market processes.
- Map the minimum traceability chain: requirement → design output → verification/validation → risk control → release → complaint or CAPA.
- Issue one requirements matrix: use the ten comparison axes above and mark each response as standard, configurable, custom or unavailable.
- Run a scripted demonstration: show a requirement change, linked risk update, approval, release, complaint and CAPA, including the audit trail.
- Review validation and hosting evidence: inspect URS, risk, IQ/OQ/PQ examples, change policy, audit-trail behavior, residency and recovery controls.
- Calculate three-year TCO: include internal validation and quality-system labor, not just licenses.
- Contract measurable deliverables: implementation milestones, migration acceptance, response times, export rights, notification of changes and support for inspections.
Other products worth benchmarking
Outside the eight-platform shortlist, an ISO 13485 comparison also discusses Complere, Veeva Vault QMS and ETQ Reliance/Octave. It describes Complere as offering a full computer-system-validation pack, Greenlight Guru as device-native, Qualio as SMB-focused, MasterControl as strong in eDHR, Veeva as integrated with Vault and Octave as multi-industry. These are useful benchmark references, not replacements for the eight-platform ranking above.
Bottom line
Start with Matrix Quality for broad configurable coverage and the clearest published price signal. Choose Greenlight Guru when SaMD design history, ISO 14971 risk and clinical evidence are the center of the audit story. Choose Qualio for a smaller structured operation, or MasterControl when enterprise manufacturing and eDHR justify the heavier rollout. Keep Ketryx, Scilife, SimplerQMS and Dot Compliance on the shortlist only after each supplies current, product-specific evidence for validation, software lifecycle, residency, implementation and cost.
