If changing how idols look is your priority, the clearest official evidence in this comparison comes from Ensemble Stars!! Music and THE IDOLM@STER Shiny Colors Song for Prism. Both describe 3D performance content and appearance changes; Song for Prism explicitly adds hairstyles, accessories, and wearing one idol’s outfit on another idol. Project SEKAI: Colorful Stage! feat. Hatsune Miku is a relevant neighboring title, but the official overview reviewed here does not establish equivalent customization features.
The descriptions below separate what publishers explicitly document from details that depend on the current app build, territory, account, and item inventory. They are not a substitute for checking the live store listing or in-game menus before installing.

Quick comparison
| Game | Performer changes | Appearance options explicitly described | Can outfits move between idols? | Where the changes appear | Officially described item access |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ensemble Stars!! Music | Players can freely change the idols participating in a performance. | Complete live costumes and “Sphere Coordination,” which assembles a look from costume parts. | Not stated in the cited description; the page instead describes selecting parts for a custom look. | 3D live scenes during rhythm play and a separate MV viewing mode; a 2D mode uses still illustrations. | MV costumes are described as coming from ★5 card idol roads and the Diamond Shop; Sphere Coordination parts are collected in the app. |
| THE IDOLM@STER Shiny Colors Song for Prism | The cited system page focuses on customizing a preferred idol rather than listing a performer-switching function. | Clothes, hairstyles, and accessories. | Yes. The official description specifically says another idol’s outfit can be put on the player’s favorite idol. | Rhythm play backed by 3D music videos; the page presents customization as part of the game’s 3D presentation. | The retrieved description does not specify a complete acquisition schedule or current item prices. |
| Project SEKAI: Colorful Stage! feat. Hatsune Miku | Not established by the official overview used here. | Not established by that overview. | Not established. | The result mentions voiced Live2D character presentation, but does not verify customization in rhythm scenes or videos. | Not established. |
“Not established” means the cited official material does not support the claim; it does not prove that a feature is absent. Menus, inventories, and platform support can change.
What customization means in an idol rhythm game
Customization is not one single function. A game may let you choose who appears in a song, swap a complete costume, assemble clothing from separate parts, or alter hair and accessories. It may show those choices while you play notes, only in a music-video viewer, or in both places. Those distinctions matter: a costume visible only in a showcase does not necessarily appear during the playable chart.

- [Deep Bass with Clear Vocals] High-performance drivers produce punchy bass while keeping vocals clean and detailed for everyday listening.
There is also a difference between a transferable outfit and a modular wardrobe. Transferability lets a favorite character wear clothing associated with another character. Modular systems use separate slots or parts, so the result is a new combination rather than a one-to-one costume swap. The official descriptions use these concepts differently, which is why the table avoids treating them as interchangeable.
Ensemble Stars!! Music: performer selection and modular looks
Changing who performs
The official game page describes rhythm gameplay taking place against 3D character live scenes and says the producer can freely change the participating idols. That is useful if your main goal is to put a preferred lineup into a song rather than being locked to a fixed cast. The description does not, however, explain whether every song supports every idol, whether formations have restrictions, or how many slots can be changed at once.
Complete live costumes
For live performances, the producer can change what the idols wear. This is the straightforward wardrobe layer: select an available live costume for the characters in the performance. The page’s wording establishes the ability to change costumes, but it does not provide a current catalog, color list, rarity breakdown, or guarantee that a particular outfit is usable by every idol.

Sphere Coordination and outfit parts
Sphere Coordination is the game’s more granular option. The official description says players select costume parts to create a coordinated custom look, using parts collected in the app. In practical terms, this is different from choosing one finished costume: it suggests that the player combines available components. The cited page does not enumerate the slots, explain whether parts are character-specific, or state how many combinations are possible.
Playable scenes, 2D mode, and MV viewing
The same page distinguishes several presentation modes. Rhythm play uses 3D live scenes. A separate 2D mode uses still illustrations, so a 3D costume change should not be assumed to animate there. The game also has an MV viewing mode without notes. That separation lets you watch a performance independently of the chart, but the source does not say that every costume or coordination part appears identically in all modes.
How the page describes obtaining costumes
The official description says MV costumes can be obtained through ★5 card idol roads and the Diamond Shop. It also says Sphere Coordination parts are collected in the app. These statements identify named routes, not a guaranteed timetable, drop rate, cost, or regional availability. A current player should inspect the relevant card road and shop screens because inventories and requirements can change.

Song for Prism: the broadest documented appearance controls
Clothing, hair, and accessories
THE IDOLM@STER Shiny Colors Song for Prism is described officially as an idol rhythm game and training simulation backed by 3D music videos. Its system page explicitly lists customization of idols’ clothes, hairstyles, and accessories. That gives it the clearest documented range of appearance slots in this comparison: you are not limited to a complete outfit.
Putting one idol’s outfit on another
The page makes a particularly specific claim: a favorite idol can wear another idol’s outfit. This is a cross-character wardrobe feature, not merely choosing among costumes already assigned to the same performer. The description does not state whether hair and accessories also transfer, whether all outfits are compatible, or whether the feature has restrictions tied to rarity, event, or body model.
Relationship to the rhythm presentation
The 3D music-video framing matters because the customized appearance is intended for a performance-oriented presentation rather than a menu portrait alone. The cited text does not spell out whether every selected item is visible in every playable chart, every video, or only selected scenes. Check the current settings and preview controls if seeing a particular accessory while tapping notes is essential.

Platforms and the need for a current check
The retrieved official excerpt lists the App Store, Google Play, and DMM GAMES. Its search-result crawl is old relative to the date of this article, so treat those listings as historical evidence rather than a guarantee of current service, regional release, language support, or device compatibility. Verify the live store page for your country and operating system before making a download decision.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Project SEKAI: a useful reference, not a verified customization match
SEGA’s official overview identifies Project SEKAI: Colorful Stage! feat. Hatsune Miku and describes voiced Live2D character presentation in the retrieved result. That establishes the title as a relevant idol-adjacent rhythm game, but the result does not substantiate costume changes, hairstyle edits, accessory slots, outfit transfers, or a wardrobe acquisition system.
It would therefore be inaccurate to rank Project SEKAI against the other two on customization from this evidence alone. If you are comparing it for that reason, look for a current official system page that names the exact appearance controls and says where they are visible.
How to choose based on the kind of customization you want
Choose performer flexibility
Start with Ensemble Stars!! Music if the decisive feature is selecting which idols take part in a 3D live performance. Its official description directly addresses changing the participating cast.
Choose detailed appearance editing
Look first at Song for Prism if you want documented controls beyond clothing. The official page names hairstyles and accessories as well as clothes, and it explicitly describes cross-idol outfit use.
Choose mix-and-match parts
Ensemble Stars!! Music is the one of these sources that names a component-based system, Sphere Coordination. That makes it the relevant option when assembling a look from collected parts is more appealing than selecting a single finished costume.

If you want the changed appearance while actively playing, confirm the game’s rhythm-scene behavior rather than relying on an MV screenshot. Ensemble Stars!! Music explicitly separates 3D rhythm scenes, a 2D still-image mode, and an MV viewer. Song for Prism ties its description to 3D music videos but leaves the exact visibility rules for individual items unstated.
Questions to verify before installing
- Region: Open the publisher’s current store listing for your country. Service status, language, age rating, and release timing can differ by territory.
- Platform: Confirm that your operating system or PC storefront is supported today. The older excerpt for Song for Prism names App Store, Google Play, and DMM GAMES, but that should be rechecked.
- Feature location: Look for labels such as costume, hairstyle, accessory, coordination, wardrobe, or MV settings. A game can advertise 3D performances while placing customization only in a viewer.
- Character compatibility: Check whether an item is universal, assigned to one idol, or transferable across idols. The cross-idol statement for Song for Prism does not establish that every item transfers.
- Acquisition route: For Ensemble Stars!! Music, inspect the specific ★5 card road or Diamond Shop listing and the available Sphere Coordination parts. Do not infer current prices or drop rates from the general feature description.
- Version: Read the current in-app notice or system page after installation. Live-service inventories and presentation modes can change without matching an older search excerpt.
What the official descriptions do not establish
- They do not provide a complete survey of idol rhythm games.
- They do not establish current global availability, active-service status, pricing, device requirements, or regional item inventories.
- They do not independently test performance, chart quality, loading time, or visual fidelity.
- They do not state that every costume works on every character or appears in every mode.
- They do not provide a dated statistic or a named-person quotation that would add useful context.
Those limits are important when reading screenshots, fan-maintained lists, or older videos: a visible outfit may belong to a different region, event period, client version, or presentation mode.
Bottom line for customization-focused players
The strongest documented split is straightforward. Ensemble Stars!! Music emphasizes choosing the performing idols, changing live costumes, and building looks from collected Sphere Coordination parts, with separate 3D live, 2D, and MV presentations. THE IDOLM@STER Shiny Colors Song for Prism documents the widest named set of appearance controls—clothes, hairstyles, and accessories—and explicitly allows another idol’s outfit to be worn by a favorite idol. Project SEKAI remains a relevant comparison point, but the cited official overview does not verify a comparable customization system. Use those distinctions as a shortlist, then confirm the current regional client and item rules before committing time or purchases.
