Is the Anbernic RG55G1 a good alternative to the Nintendo Switch Lite? It can be, if you want an Android handheld for Android games and emulation. It is not a substitute for the Switch Lite if your priority is Nintendo’s Switch game library: the RG55G1 is an Android device, while Nintendo says Switch Lite plays Switch games that work in handheld mode.
Can the RG55G1 play Nintendo Switch games?
Do not assume that it can. Anbernic lists the RG55G1 as an Android 14 handheld with Android game support and support for more than 20 types of emulators. Nintendo describes Switch Lite as a Nintendo Switch system that plays the Switch games compatible with handheld mode. Those are different platforms and software libraries; the similar handheld form factor does not provide Switch-game compatibility. Anbernic’s product page does not establish that the RG55G1 runs Nintendo Switch games.

For the Switch Lite’s supported library, Nintendo’s wording is specific: it plays “the library of Nintendo Switch games that work in handheld mode.” Check an individual game’s compatibility and any required accessories or features before buying, rather than assuming every Switch game works on the Lite.

What games can the Anbernic RG55G1 play?
Anbernic advertises support for Android games and more than 20 types of emulators, and says users can download games in relevant formats. That describes the kinds of software the device is intended to support; it does not show that every game runs well. The listing does not provide independent, game-by-game performance results, so claims about smooth play on a particular emulated system or title need separate testing.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Emulation also does not automatically provide the games themselves. Anbernic’s support statement is not a guarantee that game files are included, and it does not settle whether a particular file is legally usable. Check the law that applies to you and the rights for the games you want to play.

What the RG55G1 specifications do—and do not—tell you
Anbernic lists a Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 processor (SG4250P), Adreno A12 graphics, Android 14, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, Hall-effect joystick and triggers, active cooling, a six-axis gyroscope, wireless screen projection, streaming, vibration, and FOTA updates. These are manufacturer-listed specifications and features, not independent findings about speed, reliability, or how well a particular game performs.

Which handheld should you choose?
Choose the RG55G1 if
- You want an Android handheld for Android games and are interested in configuring emulators.
- You value the listed touchscreen, memory/storage options, and TF-card expansion.
- You are comfortable checking whether the specific apps, games, and emulator setup you want are supported; the published specifications do not establish setup difficulty or title-level results.
Choose the Switch Lite if
- You want access to Nintendo’s Switch catalog for games that work in handheld mode.
- You want a dedicated Nintendo handheld rather than an Android device whose game options depend on Android apps and emulation.
For hands-on comfort, actual battery life, emulator performance, and configuration effort, the listed specifications are not enough to make a confident comparison. Consider those factors unresolved unless you can check independent testing for the games and setup you care about.
