The Even Realities G2 is a camera-free pair of HUD glasses for readable, glanceable information—not a full AR headset or a replacement for your phone. Its restrained design can make reminders, calendar details, translation and teleprompting useful, but the $599 starting price is hard to justify if you only want occasional notifications. Buy them if you will use the display often and accept phone dependence; skip them if you expect cameras, speakers, immersive visuals or a broad app ecosystem.
The G2’s central trade-off is that its limitations are also its appeal: it keeps information visual and brief, without putting a camera or speakers on your face. That makes it less intrusive than media-focused glasses, but the small display, software rough edges and extra cost of prescription lenses or accessories deserve careful consideration.

What the Even Realities G2 is—and is not
The G2 is a monochrome, text-oriented heads-up display (HUD) built into ordinary-looking frames. It places short information in a defined area of your view rather than projecting persistent digital objects across the physical world. Even describes it as an everyday display, not a full augmented-reality display (Even Realities’ HUD overview).

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIt has no camera and, according to the hands-on review, no built-in speakers. You should not buy it for taking photos, watching video, listening to music or hearing spoken AI answers. Many functions depend on the Even companion app and a connected phone. The value is in frequent small interactions—glancing at a prompt or reminder—not in spectacular demonstrations.

Design, fit and prescription considerations
The G2 uses a magnesium frame and titanium temples, with a slimmer profile than its predecessor and conventional frame shapes including G2 A and G2 B. Its screwless hinge and camera-free design make it less conspicuous than many smart glasses, but not invisible: the arms are thicker than ordinary spectacles, hardware protrudes near the temple ends, and the waveguide areas in the lenses can be noticeable from some angles.
Fit matters both for comfort and for seeing the display. Check nose-pad fit and whether the display stays in the right position after adjustment. The thicker arms may be less comfortable with some hats, hairstyles or over-ear headphones. The optical areas in the lenses and the effects of prescription thickness or progressive lenses also make trying the fit especially important.
Do not assume your existing lenses can simply be transferred. Even’s U.S. product page lists single-vision prescription lenses from $159, with the final cost depending on the prescription and configuration. It advises progressive-lens users to consult a partner optician. The page also says prescription products are custom-made and non-returnable, with cancellation allowed only within 24 hours; confirm the current terms before ordering (Even G2 product page).
Display: readable text, not a virtual screen
The hands-on review identifies the display resolution as 640 × 350. Text is monochrome and has a visible pixel structure, giving it a retro appearance. It is intended for short prompts and text, not video or image-rich content. You can adjust display distance and vertical position in the app; Even describes the optics as a fixed HUD viewed at approximately two meters.
Legibility is not the same as field of view: even when text is readable, the display area limits how much information you can take in. Harsh sunlight can overwhelm the display. The optional sunglass clip can improve contrast; 9to5Google reported it at $99, though accessory pricing can change. Also distinguish what you see from what others notice: the waveguide areas or reflections may be visible, and the display should not be treated as private just because it is small.
Controls and everyday interaction
The temple touch areas handle basic interaction: double-tap to wake the display, swipe forward or backward to navigate, tap to select or expand some items, and long-tap to open the side menu. Even’s support instructions say to hold both touchpads for one second to activate Silent Mode (Even setup and support instructions).

Text display instantly in your eyes, and with rapid response times and ultra-low latency, freeing you from phone so you can focus on natural conversation
- 【98 Languages Covered】Beyond common languages such as English, Spanish, French, and German, these translation glasses also support real-time translation for a wider range of languages, including Kinyarwanda, Tongan, and Icelandic—for a total of 98 languages
- 【Invisible Teleprompter Glasses】Utilizing IMAR optical technology, the downward angle of the waveguide and the forward angle of the frame have been adjusted so that others cannot see the screen content whether you are looking straight ahead, down, or to the side. Perfect for speeches and presentations
- 【Navigation & Hearing Assistance】With built-in HERE Maps, you don’t have to keep looking down at your phone—the navigation arrows are right in front of you through the AR glasses. Plus, the real-time captioning feature provides truly convenient communication assistance for the hearing impaired
- 【8MP HD】The inmo GO3 glasses are equipped with an 8MP HD camera that allows you to take POV videos and images. You can also use the camera for photo translation—simply snap a photo of a menu, street sign, or document, and get an instant translation.
These controls can be adequate for brief checks, but repeated navigation may feel awkward when you have to touch the sides or back of your head. The optional R1 ring provides tap and scroll interaction from your hand and may be worthwhile for frequent use, though it is not required for basic operation. Even’s retrieved product page lists the ring at $289 (Even R1 product page); check the current regional price before buying.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →App, setup and phone dependence
“Simple” does not mean independent. Setup involves the Even app, account and permissions, Bluetooth pairing, notification access and potentially firmware updates. The app is also where you manage settings, notification preferences, display position and brightness, dashboard options and battery information. Many services and mirrored notifications rely on the connected phone.
- Install the Even app on a compatible iOS or Android phone and follow its account and permission prompts.
- Charge the glasses, enable Bluetooth and pair them from the app using Even’s current setup instructions.
- Grant only the notification access you want, then configure the dashboard and adjust display position and brightness.
- Test the apps and features you expect to use, including what happens when the phone is unavailable or the Bluetooth connection drops.
- Check for firmware updates and monitor battery use during your first few days.
The review found that taking the glasses out of their case did not always connect them automatically; opening the phone app could be necessary. That is a practical qualification to claims of seamless use. If your phone is unavailable or the connection drops, phone-dependent features and notification mirroring may not work as expected.
Dashboard and features: useful when kept brief
The dashboard can show time, date, weather, messages, notifications, calendar events, navigation directions, translation, QuickList, news and stocks. Health information is available when paired with the R1. The display works best when you treat this as a menu of quick cues rather than a place to read or manage everything.
Software behavior can change. At the time of the 9to5Google review, the dashboard was relatively rigid: a stocks widget reportedly appeared in a fixed sequence and could not initially be replaced. A later update added the ability to move and remove menu options. Check the current app experience rather than assuming a reviewed interface is permanent.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Even AI
You can invoke Even AI by voice with “Hey, Even” or through the menu; answers appear as text, not spoken responses. 9to5Google described a hybrid of models including Gemini, ChatGPT and Perplexity, but that should be treated as the review’s account, not a guarantee of permanent architecture. Short answers suit the display better than long responses. AI can be wrong or out of date, so do not rely on it for professional, safety-critical or other high-stakes decisions.

Conversate and translation
Conversate offers conversation assistance and transcription-style prompts, which could help in meetings, interviews or presentations. Translation may help with brief exchanges while traveling. Accuracy depends on speech clarity, ambient noise, language support and app processing; test the language pair and connectivity before relying on it. Neither feature replaces a qualified interpreter in medical, legal, immigration or safety-critical situations.
There is also a consent issue: people may not know that a conversation is being transcribed or assisted. A camera-free design reduces one obvious category of recording concern, but it does not make voice processing private or automatically acceptable. Get consent where appropriate and follow workplace, classroom and institutional rules.
Teleprompt, Navigate and QuickList
Teleprompting is a natural match for a text-first HUD during a speech, interview or video shoot, but it takes practice to manage pacing and eye movement. Display position and text speed matter, and the feature cannot guarantee natural eye contact or accurate delivery.
Navigate can show walking or biking directions, but directions need to be entered or saved through the app. The review found this less compelling than a direct natural-language request. QuickList is better suited to short, actionable notes than full task management. In each case, the question is whether a glanceable cue is worth the phone and setup friction.
Notifications and reliability
Notification mirroring is useful in principle, but the review reported inconsistencies: some Telegram notifications included previously read messages, Slack alerts sometimes showed a channel without the sender or message, dismissals on the glasses did not always clear the phone, and tapping could dismiss rather than expand an alert. Results may vary by phone, operating system, app and permissions.
Test your most important apps during the return window rather than assuming every notification will arrive with the same detail or stay synchronized across devices. Start with a small, deliberate selection; a flood of alerts undermines the point of a glanceable display.

Battery, durability and outdoor use
Even claims up to two days of battery life with typical use, and up to seven additional charges from the case. The reviewer reported roughly two to three days depending on use, with about five or six practical case charges in that testing pattern. These are not guaranteed runtimes: frequent display use, voice features and connection behavior affect battery life. A sensible expectation is about two days under typical use, with the case adding travel endurance.
Even lists the G2 as IP65 rated. That is not a claim that the glasses are waterproof or suitable for swimming; follow the manufacturer’s care guidance and do not infer more than the rating supports.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Price and alternatives: what are you paying for?
The official U.S. product page lists the G2 at $599 before prescription lenses and accessories. Single-vision prescription lenses start at $159 on that page; the R1 ring is listed separately at $289, and the sunglass clip was reported at $99 by 9to5Google. Prices and availability can vary, so verify them before ordering. The starting price is most persuasive if you will use the display regularly, not just for occasional message previews.
| Option | Best for | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Even Realities G2 | Camera-free, glanceable text and cues | Small fixed HUD, phone dependence and limited ecosystem |
| Camera-first smart glasses | Capturing photos or video | Different privacy and media priorities; not the G2’s camera-free approach |
| AR-first headset | Richer overlays and immersive interfaces | Bulkier, more involved experience than a simple HUD |
| Phone | Long messages, detailed replies, maps and full apps | Requires taking it out and looking at a full screen |
Who should buy the Even Realities G2?
Consider the G2 if you already wear glasses, want discreet visual prompts rather than immersive AR, and expect to use short reminders, calendar cues, translation or teleprompting often. It is also a reasonable fit if camera-free hardware matters to you and you accept relying on a phone and companion app. Prescription buyers should resolve fit and lens questions before committing to a custom order.
Skip it if you want camera capture, speakers for music or calls, video, a large virtual screen, a broad third-party app ecosystem or reliable independent operation without a phone. Also reconsider if you need dependable outdoor visibility without an accessory, expect completely invisible hardware, or want a low-cost experiment in smart glasses.

Verdict
The G2 is engaging because it does less: it puts brief, readable information in view without a camera, speakers or immersive AR. That restraint is a genuine advantage for the right buyer, but the phone dependence, notification rough edges, bright-sun limitation and total cost make it a considered purchase rather than an easy recommendation for everyone.

FAQ
Do the Even Realities G2 have a camera or speakers?
No camera is part of the G2’s camera-free design, and the hands-on review reports that the glasses have no built-in speakers. They are not for photo capture, music playback or spoken AI replies.
Do the G2 work without a phone or the R1 ring?
The ring is optional, but the glasses depend on the Even app and a connected phone for setup, notifications and many features. The ring can make frequent scrolling and selection more natural; it is not required for basic use.

Bright sunlight can overwhelm the display. The optional sunglass clip can improve contrast, but check current accessory availability and price if outdoor use is important to you.
