Reuters reported that Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei received $18 million in compensation for 2025, based on a copy of the company’s IPO prospectus reviewed by the news agency. Most of the package for Amodei and Anthropic president Daniela Amodei consisted of stock and options, Reuters said—not salary alone. The figure is reported annual compensation, not a measure of Amodei’s net worth or ownership stake.
What the $18 million figure covers
Reuters’ 2026 report put Dario Amodei’s total 2025 compensation at $18 million. The company’s prospectus was not public in the coverage consulted, so this is a figure attributed to Reuters’ review of a prospectus copy, not a number independently checked against a publicly available SEC filing. Anthropic’s spokesperson declined to comment on the figures, Reuters reported.

Reuters said stock and options made up most of the 2025 compensation packages for Dario and Daniela Amodei. It did not report that the full $18 million was salary, and the exact component values behind the rounded total were not established in the coverage.

How the reported figures compare
Reuters reported these 2025 compensation figures for Anthropic executives and selected large-company CEOs. They are annual compensation figures as reported, not a uniform measure of cash salary or personal wealth.
#1 Best Overall
| Executive or comparison | Reported amount | Measure and source |
|---|---|---|
| Dario Amodei, Anthropic CEO | $18 million | 2025 compensation; Reuters, 2026 report based on its review of a prospectus copy. |
| Daniela Amodei, Anthropic president | $16.4 million | 2025 compensation; Reuters, 2026 report based on its review of a prospectus copy. |
| Krishna Rao, Anthropic CFO | $720,250 | 2025 compensation; Reuters, 2026 report. |
| Sundar Pichai, Alphabet CEO | $10.9 million | 2025 annual compensation as cited by Reuters. Reuters separately reported $213.9 million as “compensation actually paid,” a different measure reflecting changes in unvested equity. |
| Andrew Jassy, Amazon CEO | $2.1 million | 2025 annual compensation as cited by Reuters. Reuters separately reported $13.2 million as “compensation actually paid,” a different measure reflecting changes in unvested equity. |
| Clayton Magouyrk, Oracle co-CEO | $627.5 million | 2025 annual compensation as cited by Reuters. |
| S&P 500 CEOs | $22.8 million average | 2025 average annual compensation, attributed to the AFL-CIO through Reuters; Reuters said it rose 21%. |
The comparison changes when the metric changes. In particular, “compensation actually paid” for Pichai and Jassy is not directly comparable with the annual compensation figures in the other rows. Equity awards and the way their value is measured can materially affect reported totals.
Why this is not Amodei’s salary or fortune
Reuters separately reported that Dario and Daniela Amodei’s annual salaries were each doubled to $1.4 million in July 2026. That later salary figure is distinct from their reported 2025 total compensation; it should not be substituted for, or added to, the 2025 amount.
Compensation for one year also does not establish how much a founder owns or what the founder is worth. Reuters said the prospectus copy did not describe the founders’ ownership shares. It reported that the co-founders pledged 80% of their personal Anthropic equity to charitable causes, but that pledge does not specify the value of the remaining equity or establish anyone’s net worth.

Reuters quoted Equilar research director Courtney Yu saying founder CEOs often rely on equity they already own rather than taking large annual compensation. Yu described Amodei’s reported amount as appearing “on the lower end” for a company valued at $2 trillion. That was Yu’s comparison in Reuters’ report—not an established public-market valuation of Anthropic or a conclusion about Amodei’s total wealth.

What is known about Anthropic’s IPO
Anthropic announced a confidential SEC filing in June 2026. The company said the filing gave it the option to go public after SEC review, as reported by the Associated Press. AP noted that a proposed IPO would also depend on market conditions and other factors. The number and price of shares to be offered had not been decided at that point.
As of Quartz’s October 6, 2026 report, the prospectus remained unpublished. The filing details discussed in coverage—including compensation, possible offering terms, timing, governance and valuation expectations—should therefore be treated as reported or proposed, not as settled public-offering facts.
