Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If your Restreamer stream reaches YouTube but viewers hear nothing, check the audio path in order: make sure Restreamer is using the real audio source—not Silence or No audio; confirm the source check succeeds; inspect filters for muted channels or very low volume; then verify YouTube’s supported audio codec and settings. YouTube’s Live Control Room stream-health message can help distinguish missing audio from an unsupported codec.
1. Check which audio option the active Restreamer stream uses
Open the active stream’s settings and inspect its audio configuration. Restreamer’s setup wizard distinguishes three states:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
| Wizard choice | What it means for viewers | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Audio | Sends the configured audio source, which can carry the program sound. | Choose and configure this when viewers should hear the program. |
| Silence | Sends a silent audio track. It does not recover sound from the source. | Only when a destination requires an audio channel but the stream is intentionally silent. |
| No audio | Sends no audio track. | Not appropriate when the stream needs audible program sound. |
Restreamer notes that services such as YouTube require an active audio channel. That requirement does not mean a silent track contains audio: select the real source if viewers need to hear it. Restreamer documentation
2. Confirm the selected source actually carries sound
Use the audio source’s check function in Restreamer and read its detail message if the check fails. Restreamer’s documented network-audio source settings recommend a 44,100 Hz sample rate and provide mono and stereo layout choices. Match the selected settings to the source and the intended output rather than assuming that video arriving means audio is present.

The documented check workflow does not establish one universal test for every camera, RTMP input, or network-audio setup. If the check succeeds but the stream is silent, continue to filters and YouTube diagnostics rather than treating the check as proof that every downstream stage is correct. Restreamer documentation
3. Inspect audio filters for a mute or level problem
If the source check succeeds, inspect the active stream’s audio filters. Restreamer documents controls for sample rate and channel layout, pan, volume, and volume normalization.

- Check that the selected channel layout matches the incoming audio.
- Check pan settings: a channel can be muted independently. For stereo audio, verify neither left nor right is muted.
- Check that volume is not set so low that the program is effectively inaudible.
- If normalization is enabled, consider whether it is affecting the level, but do not assume it can restore audio that is absent at the source.
Change one setting at a time and recheck the stream so you can identify which adjustment matters. Restreamer documentation
4. Check the YouTube audio encoder settings
For YouTube Live ingest over RTMP or RTMPS, YouTube lists AAC and MP3 as accepted audio codecs. Its published recommendations are:
Rank #3
- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
| Audio layout | Sample rate | Audio bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| Stereo | 44.1 kHz | 128 Kbps |
| 5.1 surround | 48 kHz | 384 Kbps |
For a conventional stereo feed, a practical baseline is AAC at 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps. These are YouTube’s published recommendations, not a guarantee that changing them will fix silence caused by a missing input or a muted filter. If your encoder exposes these controls, check them against YouTube’s current live encoder settings and recommendations.
5. Verify the YouTube connection and read stream health
Confirm Restreamer is publishing
In Restreamer’s YouTube workflow, use Publication Service, enter a valid YouTube streaming ID, save, and confirm that the connected stream’s bitrate appears in Restreamer. A visible video connection alone does not confirm audible input. Restreamer documentation

Use YouTube’s error message to narrow the cause
Open YouTube Live Control Room and check stream health. YouTube documents the error “Your encoder is sending no audio” as well as unsupported-codec errors; the health indicator shows errors and their timestamps. A no-audio warning points you back toward the source or Restreamer’s audio path. An unsupported-codec warning points toward output encoding. YouTube Live streaming error messages
6. Test before relying on the stream
Before a scheduled broadcast, test with representative audio and video, then monitor stream health while the test is running. YouTube specifically recommends testing audio and movement similar to what you plan to stream. This can reveal a silent source or ingest problem before viewers encounter it. Common symptoms and what to check next
| What you observe | Likely area to inspect | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| Restreamer shows video, but YouTube reports no audio. | Source selection or audio input. | Confirm the active source is set to Audio and passes a successful source check. |
| The source check succeeds, but viewers hear silence. | Audio filters or channel layout. | Inspect pan, channel mute, layout, and volume. |
| YouTube reports an unsupported audio codec. | Encoder output format. | Use AAC or MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS and check the applicable sample-rate and bitrate recommendations. |
| A silent track is present, but the program is inaudible. | Restreamer is set to Silence, or the source contains no program audio. | Select and verify the actual audio source; Silence only supplies a silent track. |
