The right Restream alternative depends on what “24/7 podcast stream” means. For a continuous loop of recorded episodes, start with StreamNeo: it runs uploaded videos from the cloud to YouTube, so your computer can stay off; any quality up to 4K 60fps is included at one price per slot, and the first day is free. For a live, host-led podcast with guests, OBS Studio is a free local option, while StreamYard is built around a browser studio and guest workflow. Restream itself also supports multistreaming and some prerecorded scheduling, but it is not an alternative to itself.
First choose the workflow: live show or recorded loop
A 24/7 channel can mean two very different things. A live podcast needs a studio, host and guest handling, and possibly multiple destinations. A prerecorded stream needs a playlist that keeps playing unattended, a way to recover from interruptions, and a plan for what happens to YouTube’s archive.

- Live, guest-led show: prioritize production controls, guest access, graphics, and the number of destinations you need.
- Continuous recorded episodes: prioritize unattended playlist playback, restart and recovery behavior, whether a local computer must stay on, and session or archive limits.
Compare tools against the workflow you actually need. A service that can schedule a prerecorded stream is not necessarily a hands-off, indefinitely repeating loop; a strong browser studio is not necessarily suitable for nonstop playback.

For an uploaded-episode loop, StreamNeo is the first option to consider. For production of a live show, choose between local control with OBS Studio and a browser-based studio such as StreamYard. Restream remains relevant if multistreaming is central, but its own guidance recommends periodic restarts for continuous streams.

OBS Studio: a free local option
OBS Studio runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux and is free and open source. It can send a locally produced stream to YouTube, which makes it a flexible option for a live podcast or a technically managed setup. It is not a managed cloud loop: the computer running OBS, its power, internet connection, updates, and monitoring all become part of the broadcast chain. If any of those fail, the stream can stop until someone restores it.
For a nonstop schedule, decide in advance who will monitor the machine, how a stopped stream will be restarted, and whether the computer can remain dedicated to broadcasting. Restream’s comparison article notes the operational burden of local streaming; that perspective comes from a competing vendor, so treat it as a caution about the workflow rather than an independent reliability test.
StreamYard: a better fit for live guest production
StreamYard’s browser studio and guest workflow make it a candidate for a live podcast with hosts, guests, graphics, and a modest number of destinations. Its pricing page lists three multistream destinations on Core and eight on Advanced. It also lists prerecorded-stream limits of up to two hours on Core and four hours on Advanced, so those plans should not be described as a verified 24/7 prerecorded-loop solution. Plan details, promotional pricing, and renewal pricing can change; check the current terms before choosing.

What Restream documents for continuous or prerecorded streams
Restream supports custom RTMP, prerecorded Upload & Stream, audio-only streams, and multistreaming. Its help page says it does not set a stream-duration limit, but warns that server maintenance could restart a stream that has run continuously for more than 24 hours and recommends restarting every 24 hours. That is guidance to plan around, not a guarantee of uninterrupted operation.
Restream’s prerecorded-streaming article describes scheduling playlists that can be updated every 24 hours. It also describes looping a prerecorded video up to 10 times, for a stated maximum 40-hour stream. These are vendor-documented capabilities; they do not establish an endless, unattended 24/7 loop. Confirm the current plan limits and test the exact stream and recovery workflow before relying on it.
Protect the YouTube archive separately from the live stream
A channel’s stream remaining live and YouTube retaining a replay are separate concerns. YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while longer streams may not be captured. Its guidance states: “Note: If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” Restream’s help page similarly warns that YouTube may not archive streams of 12 hours or longer.

If keeping a replay matters, plan shorter sessions and confirm the resulting archives in YouTube Studio rather than assuming a continuous broadcast will produce one complete recording. A 24/7 channel may need to split its schedule into sessions under YouTube’s stated threshold; even then, archive availability should not be treated as a substitute for keeping your own episode files.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Copyright, reused content, and channel readiness
Having permission to play a recording is essential, but it does not by itself guarantee that YouTube will accept every stream or that a channel will qualify for monetization. Use material you own or are licensed to use, including music, intros, guest contributions, and any clips in an episode. A license should cover the intended use, including continuous or repeated streaming where relevant.
Recommended Free Tools
- Check each episode for third-party music, video, images, or clips and confirm the rights allow the planned YouTube use.
- Do not assume that looping the same recordings makes them original or monetizable. Review YouTube’s current policies for reused and repetitive content and assess the channel as a whole.
- Keep source files, licenses, guest releases, and permission records accessible in case a rights or monetization question arises.
- Review YouTube’s current live-streaming eligibility and account restrictions before scheduling a long-running broadcast.
StreamNeo offers a copyright safety checklist to help review a planned playlist.

Cost and operational trade-offs
Compare the total cost of keeping the workflow running, not only the software subscription. A local OBS setup has no software charge, but you provide the machine, electricity, internet, monitoring, and recovery. Hosted tools move some of that operational work to a service, but plan duration limits, destination counts, and archive requirements still matter. For StreamNeo, the same features apply on every billing term; the selected term changes how long you pay for.
Estimate how long your source files will take to upload with the upload-time calculator. The cloud vs PC cost calculator can help compare a hosted workflow with keeping a computer running.
Troubleshooting a 24/7 podcast stream
- The stream stops after many hours: check whether the provider’s continuous-stream guidance calls for a scheduled restart. Restream recommends restarting every 24 hours because maintenance could restart a longer-running stream.
- You have no complete YouTube replay: check session duration. YouTube warns that streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all; shorter sessions are the safer archive plan.
- A prerecorded playlist ends instead of repeating: verify the service’s documented loop and playlist behavior and its plan limits. A playlist schedule or a finite number of repeats is not necessarily an endless loop.
- The broadcast goes offline when the home PC or connection fails: that is a local-streaming dependency. Restore the machine and connection, then restart the broadcast; for an unattended recorded loop, consider a cloud workflow instead.
- A live podcast works, but the prerecorded schedule is too short: check the plan’s explicit prerecorded duration cap. StreamYard lists two hours on Core and four hours on Advanced, not continuous 24/7 playback.
- A stream is interrupted by a rights issue: review the episode’s music, clips, and other third-party material, then confirm your permission covers the planned use before restarting.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a recorded YouTube loop, StreamNeo keeps the stream running without a computer or home connection staying on. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps costs the same per slot, automatic recovery can resume the stream if YouTube drops it, and the first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
