If Google Authenticator codes are missing or rejected, first choose the entry for the exact service and account, then enter a fresh code while it is current. Check that your phone’s date, time, and time zone are correct. If codes disappeared after switching phones, check the Google Account used in Authenticator or transfer them from the old phone before wiping it.
1. Enter a fresh code before it expires
Authenticator codes change, so use the code currently shown rather than one you copied earlier or that is about to change. If a code is near its transition, wait for the next one and enter it promptly. Google’s instructions do not set a universal number of seconds for every code.

2. Select the matching service and account
Authenticator can hold multiple entries. Check the entry label and the account you are trying to access before entering a code. A code for another service, or for a different account on the same service, will not verify the login you intended.

On the phone, confirm the date and time are correct, automatic time synchronization is enabled if available, and the time zone matches your location. Incorrect device time can make a current-looking code fail verification. Google’s guidance is to ensure the device time is synchronized and correct for the local time zone.

4. Follow the current time-setting guidance
Older troubleshooting advice may tell you to open Authenticator’s “Time correction for codes” setting and choose “Sync now.” That is not current universal guidance: Google says the time-correction setting was removed in Authenticator version 7.0, which uses the operating system’s time setting instead. Correct the phone’s time and time zone through its system settings. Google Account Help: Get verification codes with Google Authenticator
5. Check which Google Account holds your codes
If entries have vanished, tap the profile icon in Authenticator and check which Google Account is signed in. Codes synchronized to one account may not appear when the app is signed into another. Google also offers “Use without an account”: codes saved in that mode are stored on the device rather than synchronized to other devices, so signing in elsewhere will not restore them automatically.

Install Authenticator on the new phone and sign in with the same Google Account that held the synchronized codes. Google says codes automatically sync after signing into that account in the app.

If codes were stored on the old phone
With the old phone available, use Authenticator’s export option to show QR code(s), then import them into Authenticator on the new phone. Google documents a transfer confirmation after import. The old phone needs the latest version of Authenticator for this process. Keep it available until you have confirmed that the codes you need are present and work; do not wipe or trade it in first.
Google says Authenticator can generate codes without an internet connection or mobile service. Lack of connectivity alone does not prevent the app from generating a code.

7. Use recovery options or contact the account’s service
For a Google Account
If you cannot complete Google’s second verification step, use an unused backup code if you have one. Each backup code becomes inactive after use. You can generate a new set, but doing so deactivates the previous set. See Google Account Help: Sign in with backup codes.
For another website or app
The service you are signing into controls its authenticator enrollment and account recovery. If the code still fails after checking its entry, your account, and your phone’s time, use that service’s official recovery or support process. Google’s Authenticator guidance does not provide a universal fix for a third-party service rejecting a code.
