When G HUB won’t install, the fix depends on two things: whether you are on Windows or macOS, and the exact message or step where the install stops. Logitech’s official troubleshooting sequence covers the general case on both platforms. One specific Windows error has its own repair, and some older Windows versions need a legacy installer. Match your situation to the right branch below before trying anything.
Identify your situation first
Three details decide which official instructions apply. Write them down before you start, because Logitech’s support steps are organized around them.

- Operating system: Windows or macOS. On Windows, also note the version and build (run
winverfrom the Start menu search to see it). - Exact message: the wording on screen, copied rather than paraphrased. The Windows message “Unable to load basic components of the installer” has its own fix; a generic failure does not.
- Installation step: whether the failure happens during download, during setup, or after installation when a device does not appear in G HUB.
| What you see | Platform | Go to |
|---|---|---|
| Installation fails with no specific error, or G HUB will not start after installing | Windows | Windows: general failure |
| “Unable to load basic components of the installer” | Windows | Windows: basic components error |
| Windows 10 version 1803 (build 17134) or older | Windows | Legacy Windows versions |
| Installation problems or a failed reinstall on a Mac | macOS | macOS: manual removal and reinstall |
| Mouse or keyboard not detected in G HUB, with “System Extension Blocked” prompts | macOS | macOS: system extension permission |
Windows: general installation failure
For a general Windows failure, Logitech’s G HUB Install/Uninstall/Update Troubleshooting guide recommends working through these steps in order, stopping as soon as the problem is resolved.
- Restart the G HUB service. Use the service restart method described in Logitech’s guide, then try the affected action again.
- Reinstall automatically with the current official installer. Download the installer from Logitech’s G HUB product page and let it reinstall over the existing copy.
- Clean up manually if the reinstall fails. The guide describes terminating G HUB processes, removing the user and program data it specifies, restarting the computer, and then installing again from Logitech. Follow the exact folders and steps listed in the guide. Removing G HUB data goes beyond a simple reinstall, so do not delete folders from memory or from a forum post.
Windows: the “Unable to load basic components of the installer” error
Logitech provides a separate fix for this exact error. It is not a universal cause of failed installations, so do not apply it to other messages.

- Uninstall the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable package installed on your computer, then reinstall it. Logitech’s article states the fix this way: “You can resolve the problem by reinstalling the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package.”
- Run the Repair option in the Redistributable’s installer or in Programs and Features, if it is offered.
- Restart the computer if prompted.
- Download the G HUB installation package again from Logitech and run it. Do not reuse a previously downloaded file.
Windows: legacy versions
Logitech’s product support page states that Windows 10 version 1803 (OS build 17134) or lower requires G HUB version 2023.1. If your build matches that range, the current installer may not be the right download. Open Logitech’s product support page for G HUB, check its compatibility information for your exact Windows version, and use the version it names. Compatibility information changes over time, so confirm it on the live page rather than relying on an older copy of this article.
macOS
Manual removal and reinstall
Logitech’s guide includes a manual macOS sequence for removing G HUB and installing it again. Use that sequence rather than dragging the application to the Trash alone, because leftover components can block a clean reinstall. Follow each step in the order the guide gives, and restart the Mac before reinstalling if the guide tells you to.

System extension permission
If a device does not appear in G HUB and macOS shows “System Extension Blocked” prompts, Logitech’s Mac article directs you to allow Logitech G HUB in the Privacy & Security settings. On recent macOS versions this is under System Settings, then Privacy & Security. Approve the Logitech G HUB entry, then reconnect the device or restart G HUB. This step addresses device detection and those specific prompts. It does not cover every Mac installation failure, so if the installer itself fails, return to the manual removal and reinstall sequence above.
If the steps do not work
Contact Logitech support and include the exact error message, your Windows version and build where applicable, and a list of the steps you have already tried. Logitech’s troubleshooting guide recommends this information because it lets support skip steps you have already completed.

What the official guidance does and does not establish
- Logitech’s published pages describe these steps; they have not been independently tested here, so confirm each step against the live page before following it.
- Logitech does not publish failure-rate statistics for G HUB installation, so no success rate for any step can be stated.
- Nothing in Logitech’s installation guidance says that buying new hardware or using a third-party repair service fixes an installation failure. Start with the software steps above.
- Logitech’s support pages change. If a step, button name, or compatibility entry no longer matches what you see, treat the current Logitech page as the authority.
Work through the branch that matches your operating system and exact message, and move to the next one only if the current one fails.
