resize.dll is an Autodesk application DLL, not a normal Windows component. If resize.dll is missing or cannot be loaded, identify the Autodesk program requesting it and repair that program before changing Windows system files.
What resize.dll is
| Item | Verified identification |
|---|---|
| File | resize.dll |
| Description | RESIZE MFC DLL |
| Product association | RESIZE Library |
| Publisher | Autodesk |
| Category | Application file |
| Known universal version | Not established |
| Normal location | The Autodesk application’s own installation folder |
Public Autodesk-related file inventories have associated resize.dll with AutoCAD-family software and DWG TrueView-era installations. That does not prove that every AutoCAD release includes the file, nor does it identify one universal Autodesk product for every error.

Windows does not normally ship resize.dll as a protected operating-system file. It should not ordinarily be copied to C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.

First identify the application that is failing
Do not begin by downloading a replacement file. The program named in the error is more useful than the DLL name.
Write down the exact:
- Application name shown in the error window.
- Application version, if displayed.
- Action that triggers the error.
- Full error text.
- File path shown by any installer, log or security alert.
Then check which Autodesk products are installed:
- Press Windows key + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for Autodesk, AutoCAD, DWG TrueView or the product named in the error.
- Record the product name and version.
On Windows 10, open Settings → Apps → Apps & features instead.
If the failed program is not listed, check Control Panel → Programs → Programs and Features. An old Autodesk installation may remain registered there after a failed update or partial uninstall.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The parent program could be AutoCAD, DWG TrueView, another Autodesk desktop application or an abandoned installation entry. If the error appears when launching a game or a different application, repair that calling application first rather than assuming that the Autodesk copy is the correct one.
Fix 1: Repair the Autodesk installation
This is the safest and most likely fix when resize.dll is missing, damaged or mismatched.
Older Autodesk installer
Use this path when the product appears in Control Panel and offers a repair option:
- Close the Autodesk program.
- Press Windows key, type Control Panel, and open it.
- Select Programs → Programs and Features.
- Select the affected Autodesk product.
- Choose Uninstall/Change.
- Select Repair.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the Autodesk application again.
Repair restores missing product files without requiring you to find an individual DLL. It can also restore related application data that a copied DLL would not fix.
If Repair fails:
- Return to Control Panel → Programs → Programs and Features.
- Select the Autodesk product.
- Choose Uninstall/Change.
- Select Reinstall, if available.
- Complete the process and restart Windows.
Reinstalling the original product files is more reliable than replacing only resize.dll, because the error may involve a registry entry, a dependency or another damaged file.
Newer Autodesk installer
Many newer Autodesk products use the ODIS installer and do not support the older repair option. For those products, use uninstall and reinstall:
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Find the exact Autodesk product.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
- Sign in to your Autodesk Account using a browser.
- Download the same product and release that was installed.
- Run the official installer.
- Restart Windows after installation.
- Test the program before installing unrelated DLL files or utilities.
If the product is not listed in Settings, check Control Panel as well. Avoid removing Autodesk products that are still needed by other applications unless you have identified the failing parent program.
After reinstalling, confirm that the application starts and that the original error does not return. If the same message remains, continue with the dependency and security checks below.

Security software can remove an application DLL after an update, cleanup operation or detection event.
For Microsoft Defender:
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent quarantined items.
- Open an item that refers to the Autodesk installation folder.
- Check the detected file path and detection name.
- Do not restore the file automatically.
- Restore it only after confirming that the Autodesk installation, publisher and path are legitimate and that the detection is a false positive.
- If there is reasonable doubt, leave it quarantined.
- Uninstall and reinstall the Autodesk product from its official installer instead.
A file called resize.dll is not automatically safe merely because its name matches the error. Publisher information, installation path, digital signature and the antivirus result all matter. A copy in a temporary download folder or an unrelated system directory deserves more suspicion than a matching file inside the legitimate Autodesk product directory.
If reinstalling causes the file to be quarantined again, do not repeatedly restore it. Record the detection name and contact Autodesk or your security vendor.
Fix 3: Check the application folder and architecture
A 32-bit application generally needs a 32-bit build of its dependencies, even when it runs on 64-bit Windows. A 64-bit application requires compatible 64-bit components. The folder name alone does not prove that a DLL is compatible.

To inspect the application directory:
- Find the Autodesk shortcut in the Start menu.
- Right-click it and select More → Open file location.
- Right-click the shortcut in the folder and select Properties.
- Select Open File Location if available.
- Look for
resize.dllin the application’s own directory or one of its documented subfolders. - Right-click the file and select Properties.
- Review the Details and Digital Signatures tabs.
- Compare the publisher and path with the installed Autodesk product.
Do not assume that a file from another Autodesk release is a suitable replacement. Public listings report conflicting versions, sizes and architectures, so an alleged historical build cannot be treated as a universal copy.

If resize.dll exists in the correct folder but the program still reports that it cannot load, the problem may be:
- A missing MFC or Visual C++ dependency.
- A damaged companion file.
- An architecture mismatch.
- A permissions problem.
- A blocked or quarantined dependency.
- A failed update that left files from different releases together.
Fix 4: Repair the Microsoft Visual C++ dependency
The description RESIZE MFC DLL indicates that an older Microsoft Foundation Class runtime dependency may be involved. Repairing Visual C++ does not replace a missing Autodesk DLL, but it can help when the DLL is present and Windows cannot load one of its required runtime files.
Use Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable packages, selecting the architecture used by the calling application:
vc_redist.x86.exefor a 32-bit Autodesk application.vc_redist.x64.exefor a 64-bit Autodesk application.- ARM64 packages where appropriate on ARM64 Windows.
Install the package, or repair it if it is already installed:
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Search for Microsoft Visual C++.
- Find the relevant redistributable entry.
- Select its three-dot menu.
- Choose Modify.
- Select Repair.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the Autodesk application.
On Windows 10, use Settings → Apps → Apps & features, select the redistributable and choose Modify if available.
If the application is 32-bit, installing only the x64 package may not help. If the error continues after the correct runtime is repaired, return to the Autodesk installer. The application repair or reinstall remains the primary fix for a missing resize.dll.
Fix 5: Check Windows optional components only when the error points there
Most resize.dll failures do not require changing Windows Features. Use this check only if the Autodesk installer or another dependency specifically reports a missing Windows component.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Press Windows key, type Windows Features, and open Turn Windows features on or off.
- Review the component named by the installer or error.
- Enable only that documented component.
- Select OK.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
- Test the Autodesk application.
Do not enable random legacy components as a substitute for repairing Autodesk. Enabling a feature does not recreate an application-private DLL.
Fix 6: Repair broader Windows corruption
DISM and System File Checker are useful when Windows itself shows other corruption symptoms, such as broken system utilities, update failures or multiple unrelated applications failing. They will not normally recreate a third-party Autodesk file.
Open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Press Windows key.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click it.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Wait for it to finish. Then run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows when both commands complete and test the application.
DISM repairs the Windows component store, while SFC checks protected Windows system files. Neither command should be expected to restore resize.dll from Autodesk. If SFC reports that it repaired files but the Autodesk error remains, repair or reinstall the Autodesk product.

Outbyte PC Repair can scan for broader Windows problems and show what needs attention, but its full repair function is optional and reinstalling the Autodesk application remains the definitive fix for its missing DLL.
Fix 7: Update drivers only when the failure is broader
A graphics or chipset driver is not the normal source of resize.dll, and Device Manager will not restore an Autodesk application file. Driver work is relevant if the Autodesk program also crashes graphically, the failure began immediately after a driver change or several applications show display-related errors.
To check drivers:
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics device.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Note the provider, date and version.
- Use Update driver only when a newer driver is available from the computer or graphics manufacturer.
- Restart Windows and test the Autodesk application.
Do not uninstall a working driver merely because resize.dll is missing. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers instead of making you hunt through hardware pages, but its full driver installation is optional and it will not replace the Autodesk DLL that belongs to the application.
Fix 8: Verify files when a game or launcher reports the error
If the error is shown by a game or another launcher rather than an Autodesk program, use that application’s repair process first. The calling program may include an Autodesk component, or it may be referencing a leftover installation.
For a Steam game:
- Open Steam.
- Select Library.
- Right-click the affected game.
- Select Properties.
- Select Installed Files.
- Choose Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for the process to finish.
- Restart Steam and launch the game.
If verification reports missing files but the error persists, reinstall the game or the parent application. Do not copy an Autodesk DLL into the game folder unless the game’s official installer supplies it.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Fix 9: Use System Restore for a recent change
System Restore is appropriate when the problem clearly began after an update, cleanup utility, installation or driver change and a restore point exists from before that event.
- Press Windows key.
- Type Create a restore point.
- Open it.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point dated before the failure began.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore can revert installed applications, settings and drivers. It does not replace personal documents, but review the affected programs before confirming. Afterward, repair the Autodesk product if resize.dll is still missing.

What not to do
Do not download a random standalone DLL
Third-party DLL listings can provide the wrong release, architecture or dependency set. They may also contain modified or malicious files. A download that places resize.dll in the application directory may silence one message while leaving the damaged installation unresolved.
Use the official Autodesk installer, your Autodesk Account and the application’s built-in repair process instead. Microsoft’s official Visual C++ packages are appropriate for runtime dependencies.
Do not copy resize.dll to System32 or SysWOW64
Application-private DLLs are normally loaded from the application directory. Copying files into System32 or SysWOW64 can create conflicts, obscure the real parent application and introduce an incompatible architecture.
Do not run regsvr32 merely because the file ends in .dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide a COM registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. An ordinary runtime or application-private MFC DLL does not become functional just because it was registered.
Use regsvr32 only when the software vendor specifically documents that procedure for that exact file. It is not the normal repair for resize.dll.
Do not mix Autodesk releases
A reported version from an old file inventory is not proof that it belongs with your installed Autodesk product. Mixing releases can cause missing exports, dependency errors and architecture mismatches.
If the error remains after reinstalling
Collect this information before contacting Autodesk support or the application vendor:
- Complete error text.
- Exact application name and version.
- Windows version.
- Whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit.
- Full path of any
resize.dllcopy found. - Digital signature and publisher details.
- Windows Security detection history.
- Event Viewer entry.
- Autodesk installer log.
- Whether the error began after an update, cleanup, quarantine or disk problem.
- Whether the application works under another Windows account.
To view the relevant Event Viewer entry:
- Press Windows key.
- Type Event Viewer.
- Open it.
- Select Windows Logs → Application.
- Find an error recorded at the time of the failed launch.
- Copy the faulting application, module and exception details.
If the program works under another Windows account, the original profile may have damaged application settings. Repair or reset that application’s profile data using the vendor’s documented procedure rather than replacing system DLLs.
FAQ
Is resize.dll part of Windows?
No verified evidence identifies resize.dll as a standard Windows component. It is associated with Autodesk’s RESIZE Library and should normally be located with the Autodesk application that uses it.
Which Autodesk product installed resize.dll?
It has been found among AutoCAD-family and DWG TrueView-era files, but no single Autodesk product is confirmed for every copy. The application named in the error and the file path are the best way to identify the parent installation.
Should I put resize.dll in System32?
No. Repair or reinstall the application that requests it. Copying an application DLL into a Windows system directory can create a wrong-version or wrong-architecture problem.
Will regsvr32 fix it?
Usually not. regsvr32 is for DLLs designed for COM registration. A missing or damaged application-private MFC DLL should be restored through the Autodesk installer.
Should I run SFC and DISM?
Run them when Windows has broader corruption symptoms, but do not expect them to recreate resize.dll. Repair the Autodesk product separately.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Why does the error say a module is missing when resize.dll is present?
The DLL may require another missing dependency, or the existing file may be incompatible, blocked or corrupted. Repair the correct Visual C++ architecture and then repair the Autodesk installation.
Is a standalone download ever safe?
Only when the original vendor supplies it as part of a documented official package. For resize.dll, use the Autodesk product installer rather than an unverified standalone copy.
