For a balanced starting point in Resident Evil Requiem on PC, choose your target resolution and frame rate first, leave ray tracing and path tracing off, then use DLSS or FSR if native rendering cannot sustain that target. Raise visual settings only after performance is stable. There is no universally best preset: the right balance depends on your GPU, VRAM, display, and tolerance for upscaling artifacts or input latency.
Check what your hardware is expected to handle
The Steam listing names a GeForce GTX 1660 with 6 GB or Radeon RX 5500 XT with 8 GB as minimum graphics cards. Its recommended graphics cards are a GeForce RTX 2060 Super with 8 GB or Radeon RX 6600 with 8 GB.

Selects’ July 26, 2026 guide summarizes the associated targets as upscaled 1080p at 30 FPS from a 640p internal resolution for minimum hardware, and upscaled 1080p at 60 FPS from 720p internal resolution for recommended hardware. These are targets, not guarantees for every scene, and neither means the game is rendering natively at 1080p. Both configurations specify 16 GB of RAM. Selects’ hardware and settings guide

#1 Best Overall
- Resident Evil Requiem is the ninth title in the Resident Evil main series. Prepare to escape death in this breathtaking experience that will shake you to the core.
- A new era of survival horror begins in 2026. Technological advancement combined with the vast experience of the development team in combining stories with finely crafted characters and gameplay ensure a more immersive experience than ever before.
- Experience the classic survival horror of the series through combat, investigation, puzzles, and resource management. The gameplay allows you to freely switch between first-person and third-person perspectives and experience the horror from the angle that best suits your playing style.
- It all begins when a corpse--the victim of an unknown disease--is found in an abandoned hotel. Grace Ashcroft, crime analyst at the FBI, is commissioned with the investigation. But the location of the corpse is exactly the place where her mother died eight years ago.
- Nervous of being confronted with her past, Grace sets out for the hotel. As it turns out, the case is linked to the truth behind the misfortune of Raccoon City, the biological catastophile that once shocked the world. Is this chapter finally drawn a final line?
Set a target and establish a baseline
- Choose your output resolution and frame-rate goal. Test at the resolution you actually play at; 1080p/60, 1440p/60, and 4K have different demands. On a high-refresh display, consistent frame pacing may matter more than a higher but erratic average.
- Start with ray tracing and path tracing off. Pick a reasonable preset, then check performance in a repeatable area before changing individual settings.
- Use an upscaler if native rendering misses your goal. The reviewed settings coverage reports DLSS and FSR options. Compare their quality modes first; move to a more aggressive performance mode only if needed, and look for softness, shimmer, or reconstruction artifacts. PCGamesN’s settings guide
- Change one setting at a time. Revisit a comparable scene after each change and judge smoothness as well as image quality. Note your output resolution, upscaler and mode, lighting mode, frame-generation setting, GPU, driver, and game version when comparing results.
Use a settings profile as a starting point, not a rule
PCGamesN’s March 2, 2026 suggested profile includes motion blur off; texture quality Normal; texture filtering High (anisotropic x4); TAA; standard mesh quality; screen-space reflections on; low subsurface scattering; normal volumetric fog, shadows, and ambient occlusion; and contact shadows off. The guide says these settings were tuned on a powerful Ryzen 7 9800X3D and GeForce RTX 5090, so they are a starting point rather than a tested prescription for lower-end systems. Texture quality in particular should fit your available VRAM.
If performance falls short, try lowering the internal resolution through DLSS or FSR before reducing every quality setting. If the image looks too soft, try a higher-quality upscaling mode or native rendering if your GPU can sustain it. Judge the trade-off in motion as well as in a still image: shimmer, ghosting, and softness can be more noticeable during play.

Decide whether advanced lighting is worth the cost
Ray tracing can improve lighting, shadow, and reflection detail, but its cost varies with hardware and scene. PC Gamer reported 157 FPS with High ray tracing and 77 FPS with path tracing in its described GeForce RTX 5090 comparison. Those are results from that reviewer’s particular test setup, not a prediction for other GPUs. The review describes path tracing as visually striking but expensive. PC Gamer’s PC performance analysis
NVIDIA’s February 26, 2026 launch announcement lists PC support for path tracing, DLSS Ray Reconstruction, DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation, and Reflex. These are vendor-stated features; the options available to you depend on your hardware and the game’s settings. NVIDIA also says, “All GeForce RTX gamers also benefit from NVIDIA Reflex when playing Resident Evil Requiem.” That is NVIDIA’s claim, not an independent latency measurement. Enable frame generation only when the underlying frame rate is playable
Frame generation can make motion appear smoother, but it does not replace a solid underlying rendered frame rate. PC Gamer reports latency or consistency trade-offs in some tested configurations and notes that frame generation needs a decent baseline. If you are sensitive to input delay, a lower but more consistent rendered frame rate may feel better than a higher displayed rate with frame generation.

Before considering a graphics-card upgrade, identify your current GPU, output resolution, frame-rate goal, and likely bottleneck. Compare your card with the Steam minimum and recommended tiers as reference points, not as automatic purchase advice. An upgrade will not necessarily fix CPU limits, driver issues, or every frame-time spike; laptop GPU performance also cannot be inferred reliably from a desktop card’s tier label.
