For a practical starting point, match output resolution to your PC, use an available upscaler if native rendering cannot hold your target frame rate, and leave path tracing off unless your GPU has considerable headroom. In one PC Gamer test, an RTX 3060 Ti desktop ran at 1440p with Normal quality, ray tracing off and DLSS Quality. Treat that as an example—not a universal preset—and tune against the scenes where your own frame rate dips.
What are the best settings for Resident Evil Requiem?
There is no single best preset for every PC. The useful starting point is the strongest combination your system can sustain at the resolution you want to play: choose a quality preset, select an upscaler supported by your graphics card if needed, and add ray tracing only if performance remains steady.

PC Gamer’s testing used Leon’s introduction as a demanding sequence because it combines lights, shadows, reflections and NPCs. If your slowdowns occur in a particular section, judge changes there rather than relying only on a quiet area or menu.

| Test system | Settings tested | What the reviewer observed |
|---|---|---|
| Older desktop near minimum | 1080p, Normal, ray tracing off, FSR Balanced | The older CPU was heavily loaded and lower 1% performance suffered. Start with ray tracing off; reduce resolution or quality before enabling frame generation if baseline performance feels unstable. |
| RTX 4050 gaming laptop | 1080p, Low, Normal RT, DLSS Quality | Its 6 GB of VRAM constrained higher settings. Frame times were inconsistent during first-time asset loading; adding frame generation also strained the laptop’s limited VRAM. |
| RTX 3060 Ti desktop | 1440p, Normal, ray tracing off, DLSS Quality | The reviewer found ray tracing usable on this system, but with less consistent frame times. Disable it for more performance; alternatively, lower resolution while increasing lighting and shader quality and enabling RT. |
| RX 7900 XT desktop | 4K, High, High RT, FSR Performance | Changing High RT to Normal improved average performance by around 10–15 fps in this test. The reviewer found that maximum quality had a small performance cost but only a modest visual gain on this system. |

Laptop and integrated graphics caveats
Capcom’s support FAQ, updated July 22, 2026, says normal operation is not guaranteed with onboard graphics or devices that share VRAM with main memory. It also warns that mobile GPUs may perform substantially worse than regular GPUs, even if their model names match the listed minimum or recommended cards. A desktop GPU benchmark is therefore not a dependable prediction for a laptop with a similar name. Read Capcom’s PC FAQ.

How should you choose resolution and upscaling?
Output resolution is what your display shows; an upscaler renders the game internally at a lower resolution and reconstructs the image for that output. Capcom’s own listed 1080p targets use upscaling from 640p or 720p, so rendering below the display resolution is part of the publisher’s stated performance targets, not an unusual workaround.
- Choose your display resolution. In the game’s options, set the screen mode and resolution available for your graphics card. Capcom notes that the resolutions offered can vary by card. Capcom explains resolution and screen-mode options.
- Test native rendering first if performance allows. If frame rate is below your goal or inconsistent, enable an upscaler supported by your GPU.
- Compare image clarity and pacing. Try the available quality modes at your chosen output resolution, then keep the option that balances legibility and consistent performance in demanding scenes.
- Change one category at a time. Adjust resolution or upscaling, quality preset, and ray tracing separately so you can identify what actually helps.
Should you enable ray tracing or path tracing?
Ray tracing is optional, and its cost depends on the GPU and mode. PC Gamer reported improved shadowing and some reflections with ray tracing, but also found that performance and frame-time consistency varied. If enabling it causes noticeable dips, turn it off or try a lower RT mode before cutting every other quality setting.

Path tracing carries a much larger performance cost in the cited test. PC Gamer recorded 157 fps with High RT and 77 fps with path tracing on its RTX 5090 system, at 4K Max with DLSS Performance. Those are results from one reviewer’s test, not a prediction for other RTX 5090 PCs or a general frame-rate range. The reviewer also said the demanding scenes needed substantial upscaling and frame generation for higher rates.

Does frame generation make gameplay smoother?
Frame generation creates additional displayed frames and can make motion appear smoother, but it does not come without trade-offs: PC Gamer cautions that it can increase input latency, so a reasonably strong baseline frame rate matters before turning it on. In the reviewer’s tests, FSR frame generation added more latency than preferred on the minimum-spec system. On the tested RTX 4050 laptop, it consumed too much of the tight VRAM budget and made frame times less consistent.
NVIDIA says DLSS Frame Generation is available on GeForce RTX 40-series GPUs, while DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation is available on RTX 50-series GPUs. NVIDIA’s reported figures for 4K, path tracing and 4X Multi Frame Generation—including over 280 fps on RTX 5090 and almost 200 fps on RTX 5080—are vendor claims, not independent benchmark results. See NVIDIA’s feature announcement.
Quick Recap
How do you get more FPS without making the game feel worse?
- Find the section that slows down. Revisit the affected scene after each change; a demanding area with many lights, shadows, reflections and NPCs can reveal issues that are not visible elsewhere.
- Reduce rendering cost first. If you are below your target, try an upscaler or lower output resolution before enabling frame generation.
- Turn off or reduce ray tracing. It can improve some lighting and reflections, but may make frame times less consistent or cost too much performance on your GPU.
- Lower quality selectively. If a preset change is needed, compare the resulting image and performance rather than assuming the highest setting is worth its cost. The tested RX 7900 XT, for example, gained around 10–15 fps on average by moving RT from High to Normal.
- Enable frame generation only after baseline performance is acceptable. Check both responsiveness and frame consistency, not just the displayed frame-rate number.
