There is no single reset procedure for every Denon receiver. A restart, a network-settings reset, a full factory reset, and firmware restoration are different actions with different effects—and button sequences vary by model and region. Identify your exact model and follow its manual before using any menu path or front-panel combination.
Choose the least disruptive step that fits the problem
Start by identifying the receiver model and the symptom. The manuals for the AVR-X8500H, AVR-X1700H, AVR-S670H, AVR-X2600H, and AVR-X2700H document differences in procedures; their instructions are examples, not universal Denon directions. Find the model and regional version printed on the receiver, then consult the matching manual.

- Restart the receiver if operation or indicators are behaving incorrectly. The AVR-X8500H manual recommends restarting before returning settings to defaults: Denon AVR-X8500H manual (North America).
- Reset network settings when the issue is limited to network connection or playback, if your model offers this option.
- Reset all settings for persistent problems that are not limited to networking, after backing up configuration if possible.
- Use firmware restoration only if the exact model manual directs you to it after other reset steps.
Restart before resetting factory settings
A restart does not have the same scope as restoring defaults. Denon’s AVR-X8500H manual advises: “We recommend restarting the unit before returning the settings to the default settings.” Follow the restart instructions in your own model’s manual; do not assume a button combination from another receiver applies.

A network-only reset is the narrower option when the fault concerns network access or playback. It is not equivalent to clearing the receiver’s entire configuration. The AVR-X2700H manual presents “Network Settings” separately from “All Settings,” and warns against disconnecting power or turning the receiver off during network initialization: Denon AVR-X2700H manual (Europe).

What may be preserved
For the AVR-X1700H, Denon says its network reset clears only network settings and preserves Amp Assign, Speaker Config., and Video settings. This retention detail is specific to that model and should not be assumed for other receivers. The AVR-X1700H manual describes both a front-panel procedure after selecting HEOS Music and a menu option; consult it for the exact steps: Denon AVR-X1700H manual (Europe). Denon cautions: “Do not turn the power off until reset is complete.”
Resetting factory settings
A factory reset returns settings to defaults and can remove customized receiver configuration. If your model has Save & Load, use it before resetting when possible. Denon recommends saving settings beforehand in its AVR-X8500H and AVR-X1700H manuals.

Do not use a button sequence just because it worked on another Denon. For example, the AVR-X8500H manual describes turning power off, then pressing Power while holding INFO and BACK until “Initialized” appears. The AVR-X2600H manual instead describes powering on while holding TUNER PRESET CH + and TUNER PRESET CH – until “Initialized” appears. These are model-specific examples; verify the exact procedure in your receiver’s manual.
Menu-based reset options
The AVR-X2700H manual distinguishes “All Settings” from “Network Settings.” Use the option that matches the problem and follow the on-screen instructions in the manual for your model and region. Do not treat a network reset as a substitute for an all-settings reset, or vice versa.

Factory Restore and firmware recovery
Firmware restoration is a later recovery step, not a routine first response. The AVR-S670H and AVR-X2700H manuals place it after factory or network resets. Procedures and requirements differ, so proceed only when the manual for your exact receiver calls for Factory Restore.
Prerequisites and cautions
- The AVR-S670H manual says the receiver must be connected to the home network before starting. Its recovery uses limited firmware until an internet firmware update is performed.
- The AVR-X2700H manual says settings return to defaults during firmware restoration.
- For both cited models, do not turn the receiver off before the restoration operation completes. Follow the specific manual’s instructions, including any network and firmware-update requirements.
See the official instructions for the AVR-S670H (North America) and AVR-X2700H (North America). The cited manuals cover particular regional editions; confirm the procedure for your receiver’s model and region.

If the problem remains
If the documented recovery procedure does not resolve the fault, contact Denon customer service. The AVR-X2700H manual gives this escalation advice; a failed reset alone does not establish whether the cause is hardware, firmware, configuration, or something else.
