The indicator should turn off or return to its normal status. Family Hub models covered by Samsung’s Canada guide use an on-screen menu instead. Reset only after replacing the filter: it clears or restarts the reminder timer; it does not replace the cartridge.
Reset the light using the controls on your refrigerator

Find the control labeled Filter Reset (3 sec). Depending on the model, the filter-reset function may share a button labeled Alarm, Water Filter, or Ice/Water.

Press and hold the identified control for three seconds. Check whether the filter indicator turns off or returns to its normal color.

If you cannot find the label or the light does not change, check the manual for your exact refrigerator model. Some models use a paired-button action, and button combinations vary.

Family Hub touchscreen
For Family Hub models covered by Samsung’s Canada instructions, tap Apps → Fridge Manager → Fridge Settings → Water Filter → Reset → Proceed. Menu wording or availability may differ by model and region; consult your model’s manual if those options are absent.
Why the panel label matters
Samsung’s US panel guide for the RF28R7351*/RF28R7201* family identifies a shared Ice Maker / Filter Reset control. This is an example for those models, not a universal label. Match the instructions to your control panel rather than trying unrelated buttons. See Samsung’s RF28 panel guide.
Resetting the reminder is not replacing the filter
Samsung describes the indicator as a timer-based replacement reminder that generally activates after about six months. Water quality and dispenser use can affect how soon a filter needs changing, so do not treat the light as a measurement of water quality or proof that a cartridge is still usable. Resetting clears or restarts the reminder; it does not clean or renew the filter. See Samsung Canada’s filter replacement guide.

Identify a compatible replacement before installing it
Filter type depends on the refrigerator model. Find the model number on the appliance and verify the cartridge against Samsung’s compatibility information for that model and market. Samsung Canada lists HAF-CIN, HAF-QIN, and HAFCU1 as examples of internal filter types; none should be assumed to fit every refrigerator or region. The Canadian guide also provides a filter-finder route. Start with Samsung’s replacement and compatibility instructions.
When checking a cartridge, confirm the exact model compatibility, cartridge family or shape, and market. A familiar brand name or a filter that looks similar is not enough to establish a fit.
Replace the cartridge and flush the water line
Follow the procedure in your refrigerator’s manual if it differs from these general steps. Samsung Canada’s guide recommends relieving water pressure before removing the old cartridge and flushing the system after installation.

Remove the old filter, insert the compatible replacement, and lock it into place as directed for your model.

Reset the filter indicator using the control-panel or touchscreen method for your refrigerator.

Turn the water supply back on. Dispense and discard about seven minutes of water—roughly 10–12 large glasses—following Samsung Canada’s instructions. This flush figure is from that replacement guide, not a universal instruction for every model or region.

If the light stays on

The three-second hold has no effect: Confirm you are using the control assigned to filter reset on your exact model. Check its manual for a paired-button action or touchscreen steps.

The expected button is not labeled “Filter Reset”: Look for a secondary label or a shared function such as the RF28 family’s Ice Maker / Filter Reset. Do not assume that example applies to your refrigerator.

Your touchscreen does not show the listed menu: The steps above are for Family Hub models covered by Samsung’s Canada guide. Use your model’s manual for the correct menu path.

The light returns or the filter seems due soon after a reset: Verify that the replacement cartridge is compatible and correctly installed, then follow the manual’s model-specific instructions. The reminder interval is approximate, and water conditions and use matter.
