1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThere is no single best replacement for Google Keep: the right choice depends on what you need Keep to do. If its simple notes have become hard to organize, consider a more structured app; if you value quick capture, a feature-rich migration may add more work than it removes. Match the alternative to the limitation that is actually getting in your way, then test it with a small set of notes before moving your library.
Choose based on what Keep no longer does well for you
Google Keep is built for straightforward capture. That simplicity can be useful for quick notes, but it may feel limiting when you need richer formatting, more organization, or better ways to manage a large collection. TechRadar’s review describes Keep as intuitive for simple notes while noting those limitations; it is a review, not a comparative performance test. Read TechRadar’s Google Keep review.

Before switching, identify the problem you want the new app to solve. The alternatives below are use-case directions rather than a tested ranking. Lifestack’s comparison maps several apps to different needs, but it is published by a vendor in the productivity category. See Lifestack’s alternatives overview.
| Your priority | Candidate | Why it may fit | Check before switching |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local-first files and linked notes | Obsidian | The comparison associates it with local-first notes and backlinks; Obsidian also documents a Google Keep importer. | Whether its setup suits you, how you will handle sync, and whether imported notes preserve the structure you need. |
| Structured pages, databases, or a shared knowledge base | Notion | The comparison associates it with structured notes and databases. | Whether you want that much structure and whether its current plan limits fit your use. |
| Microsoft devices and services | OneNote | The comparison presents it as an option for people using Microsoft’s ecosystem. | Current sync behavior, supported devices, and account requirements. |
| Apple devices | Apple Notes | The comparison presents it as an option for people using Apple’s ecosystem. | Whether you need access from Android or Windows. |
| Checklists and tasks | A task-oriented app or a notes app with task support | Task management is a separate consideration from general note storage. | Reminders, recurring tasks, collaboration, and export options. |
These are starting points, not guarantees that an app will suit your workflow. Check each candidate’s current features and requirements before committing.
#1 Best Overall
- A classroom classic: this 6-pack of 1-subject spiral notebooks helps you identify your subjects at a glance with color-coding efficiency; color assortment may vary
- The right ruling: these 8" x 10-1/2", college-ruled notebooks fit more writing per page than wide-ruled sheets; each notebook provides 70 double-sided sheets with red margin lines
- Perect perforation: Dependable micro-perforated sheets retain your must-have notes but still detach cleanly when you’re ready to revise
- Glide from page to page: Your favorite gel or ballpoint pens will move effortlessly across these smooth pages for A+ notes with minimal ink bleeding or show-through
- 3-Hold punched: Every notebook comes 3-hole punched to fit a standard binder; take along one notebook or several to save extra trips to the locker
Weigh richer organization against setup and migration
A replacement can solve one frustration while creating another. An app with databases, linked notes, or extensive organization can take more setup than a lightweight notes tool. If Keep’s main benefit for you is capturing an idea in seconds, consider whether the additional structure will help often enough to justify the change.
- Quick capture: Prioritize a fast path from your phone or computer to a saved note.
- Organization: Look for the specific structure you need—such as folders, backlinks, or databases—rather than choosing features you may not use.
- Tasks and reminders: Confirm that the app handles the reminders and recurring tasks you rely on; a note that looks like a checklist may not replace a task workflow.
- Control and access: Decide whether local-first storage or access across your devices and services matters more, and verify how the candidate handles sync.
Move notes carefully instead of copying everything by hand
Google Help documents how to send an individual Keep note to Google Docs on the web, and its page links to separate guidance for exporting Keep data. Google says, “You can send your notes to other apps like Gmail or Drive. That way you don’t have to copy them yourself.” The copy-to-Docs route is for individual notes; readers with a larger library should consult Google’s export guidance rather than assume one-by-one copying is the only option. Rank #2
- 1 subject notebook comes with 70 wide ruled, double-sided sheets. Wide ruling is ideal for the younger student who needs more space between lines.
- Sheets measure 7-1/2" x 10-1/2" when torn out with an overall size of 8" x 10-1/2". Perforation easily tears out with clean edges.
- Notebook is 3-hole punched to store in your favorite binder. Covers are coated for durability and have writable label on front cover.
- Includes 6 notebooks in randomly selected colors: Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Purple or Black. Colors will vary with each purchase.
- Assembled in U.S.A. with U.S. and foreign parts
Obsidian’s official Importer documentation describes a Google Keep import route. Its stated caveat is that checklists import as top-level items because Keep’s export does not preserve indentation. That means nested checklist structure may not carry over as you expect. The importer guidance is available through Obsidian Help’s Importer page; verify the current instructions before a full migration.

Run a small trial first
- Pick a handful of representative Keep notes: plain text, a checklist with nested items, notes with images or labels, and notes tied to reminders.
- Use the candidate app’s current import or export instructions to bring over only that sample. For Google Keep, consult Google’s export guidance or use its documented copy-to-Docs option for individual notes.
- Compare the imported copies with the originals. Check text, checklist order and nesting, images, labels, and any reminder details you depend on.
- If the trial preserves what matters and the new app works across your devices, plan the full move. Otherwise, adjust your approach or shortlist a different app.
A trial is a precaution, not a claim that a particular import will fail. The documented checklist caveat is a concrete reason to inspect the result before relying on a bulk move.
Rank #3
- 12-pack of 50-sheet note pads with letter-size 16 pound White paper; ideal for everyday use at home, school, or office
- Wide ruled with 11/32 inch line spacing for larger handwriting and easier reading and transcribing
- Sturdy chipboard backing for added writing pad support
- Perforated top for easy removal of the letter-size sheets from the pad
- Left-side margin and title space for organizing notes
Make the switch only when it fixes a specific problem
For linked, local-first notes, investigate Obsidian; for database-style structure, consider Notion; for an ecosystem-specific fit, compare OneNote or Apple Notes with the devices and services you use. If checklists and reminders are the real issue, evaluate task support directly. Keep remains a reasonable choice when fast, simple notes are enough. Replacing it is worthwhile when the benefit you need outweighs the setup and migration work.
