RenderProof is a planning agent for video delivery settings—not an encoder—that is designed to retrieve documented codec, container, and delivery constraints before recommending settings. In its featured example, it reports that libx264 with nal-hrd=cbr is not allowed in MP4, while the indexed evidence does not establish a fallback container. That distinction matters: a missing answer is not treated as proof that an alternative is safe.
What RenderProof does
RenderProof is a project described by its author, Tim, as a video delivery planning agent for creators and video engineers choosing codecs, containers, and FFmpeg settings. It is not the software that encodes the video. Instead, it is intended to help plan a delivery configuration by consulting a structured knowledge base and showing the evidence behind its answer.

Tim’s project description, published September 20, 2026, says Sanity serves as the source of truth for claims, compatibility rules, delivery profiles, pipeline recipes, and editorial decisions. The model includes source documents and claims alongside codec and container profiles, compatibility rules, delivery profiles, pipeline recipes, and decisions. RenderProof retrieves those records using Sanity Context MCP before generating an answer. Read Tim’s project description.

What the libx264 and MP4 example establishes
The demonstration asks: “Can I use libx264 nal-hrd=cbr for MP4, and is any fallback container established by the Knowledge Base?” Tim reports that captured FFmpeg documentation says this combination is not allowed in MP4. A competing knowledge-base source suggested MKV or MPEG-TS, but the resolution preserved in Sanity was that the indexed source did not establish a fallback container.
Those are two different findings. The reported MP4 incompatibility applies to the specified libx264 and nal-hrd=cbr combination. The missing fallback means the indexed evidence did not support recommending another container; it does not show that every other container is invalid, nor does it establish that MKV or MPEG-TS is suitable.

FFmpeg’s official documentation covers its command-line tools, codecs, formats, filters, libraries, and related topics. FFmpeg reads inputs and writes outputs, including for media conversion and transcoding. Because command behavior can vary by version, check the documentation corresponding to the FFmpeg version installed in your environment. FFmpeg documentation says the documentation set is regenerated nightly and advises users of older versions to consult their local documentation.

Retrieve claims before advising
Rather than rely only on a model’s general knowledge, the described workflow retrieves structured, linked records from the Sanity knowledge base. The goal is to tie an answer to a specific claim or constraint, such as a codec/container compatibility rule.

Keep conflicts visible
When sources disagree, the project says it preserves provenance and conflict decisions. In the demo, one source’s suggested alternatives did not become a fallback recommendation because the stored resolution found that the indexed source had not established one.
Distinguish unknown from safe
Tim says RenderProof distinguishes “not documented” from “safe” and generates FFmpeg commands only from retrieved evidence. The interface reportedly exposed initial_context and knowledge_base_read activity along the demonstrated path. These are author-reported design and interface details, not independently reproduced test results.

Where its coverage is incomplete
Tim identifies authoritative platform-specific and HDR delivery limits as a remaining knowledge-base gap. RenderProof is described as reporting when destination or platform specifications are missing rather than inventing limits. That is useful only if readers understand the boundary: the project description does not establish platform limits or HDR rules that can be applied to a particular service.

Delivery requirements also depend on the destination and the exact tools in a workflow. A reader evaluating any assistant for this work should look for evidence tied to the relevant codec, container, version, and destination; clear handling of conflicting sources; and a way to trace generated commands back to the material used. These are meaningful design questions, not comparative benchmark results for RenderProof.

What the project counts do—and do not—mean
In the September 2026 project account, Tim reports 29 seed documents and 14 built Knowledge Base entries across three sources. These are snapshots of the project’s reported contents at that time. They do not measure recommendation accuracy, reliability, adoption, or performance, and they do not establish what the knowledge base contains today.
Quick Recap
What to verify before using a recommendation
- Confirm the exact codec, container, and options in the proposed configuration; the demo’s finding concerns the stated
libx264andnal-hrd=cbrcombination with MP4. - Check the installed FFmpeg version and consult documentation for that version when command behavior matters.
- Confirm that the knowledge base has evidence for the destination’s platform and any relevant HDR requirements; the project account identifies those areas as incomplete.
- Treat an unestablished fallback as an unanswered question, not as an endorsement or prohibition of all alternatives.
