You can remove a product-photo background without sending the image to a background-removal server: use software that processes the image on your computer or phone. But local image processing does not, by itself, prove that an app collects no other information. Check its current privacy disclosures and test the cutout on representative products before relying on it for a catalog.
What “local background removal” does—and doesn’t—mean
A local tool performs the image-editing step on your device instead of requiring you to upload the photo to a background-removal service. That can address the specific concern of sending product images to a processing server.

It is a narrower claim than “the app collects no data.” An app may process images locally while its store disclosure reports collection or sharing of other information. The available product descriptions and app-store listings provide examples for desktop and mobile. These are vendor or developer claims, not independently verified network tests.

Features, declarations, availability, licensing, and limits can change. Review the current product page and app-store disclosure before choosing a tool. For LocalBG, the vendor’s page describes a Pro subscription and a three-day free trial; check its current terms rather than assuming those conditions remain unchanged.
How to choose and test a tool before processing a catalog
- Confirm where the image is processed. Look for an explicit offline or on-device claim, and distinguish a vendor statement from an independent network test. If avoiding uploads is essential, do not treat an unclear processing description as confirmation.
- Read the app-level privacy disclosure. Check the current store Data safety section and the provider’s privacy policy. Look for reported collection and sharing, and consider account, telemetry, and purchase requirements separately from image processing.
- Check workflow fit. Verify your operating system, supported input and output formats, transparent PNG export, single-image or batch support, and any batch or export limits before committing to a workflow.
- Test representative products. Try images with thin edges, reflective surfaces, transparent parts, or irregular shapes. Inspect the cutout at full size, including edges and fine details, before applying the process to a full catalog.
- Check current terms and any marketplace rules. Confirm licensing and trial conditions with the software provider. If images are intended for a marketplace, consult that marketplace’s official, current image guidance; an app listing that names a marketplace does not establish compliance with its requirements.
What is not established
Available descriptions do not establish, through independent controlled testing, that one of these tools produces better cutouts, runs faster, or performs well on a particular device. They also do not independently verify that a named app never transmits images. Choose based on the current disclosures and your own test images rather than treating promotional claims as comparative proof.
