Deleting the birthday event in Calendar does not remove the birthday information stored in Contacts. If you only want birthdays out of view, hide the Birthdays calendar instead; if you want to remove a manually created birthday event, delete that event in Calendar.
First identify which birthday you want to remove
Google Calendar can display birthdays from Google Contacts, and you can also create birthday events yourself. Choose the action that matches your goal:

- One person’s synced birthday: edit or remove that person’s birthday in Google Contacts.
- A manually created birthday event: delete the event in Google Calendar.
- All birthdays, just from your view: hide the Birthdays calendar.
- Birthdays synced from one Google Account: turn off that account under “Sync from Contacts.” This also removes other synced dates.
Remove one person’s birthday from Google Contacts
Open the person’s contact in Google Contacts or the Contacts app on Android, edit the birthday field, and save the change. Removing the birthday field removes the source information used for a contact-linked birthday in Calendar. Google also says birthdays linked to Google Contacts can be edited in Calendar on Android, iPhone, and iPad, with those edits applied to Contacts.
Deleting a birthday from Calendar alone does not erase the birthday information stored in Google Contacts, so it may continue to appear if the contact still has a birthday. See Google’s computer instructions for managing birthdays or its Android and iPhone and iPad guidance.

Delete a birthday event you created manually
If the birthday is a standalone event you added yourself rather than a birthday supplied by a contact, delete it in Calendar:
- On a computer, open Google Calendar and select the birthday event.
- Choose Delete event.
- If it repeats, choose whether to delete only that occurrence, that occurrence and following events, or the entire series from the options shown.
Google’s event deletion instructions describe the computer flow. For a contact-linked birthday, change the birthday in Contacts instead of relying on event deletion.
Hide all birthdays without deleting their source information
Hiding the Birthdays calendar removes birthdays from view, including birthdays imported from Google Contacts and manually created birthdays. It does not mean you have deleted the contact birthday information.

- Computer: In Google Calendar, find Birthdays under My calendars and uncheck it.
- Android, iPhone, or iPad: Open the Calendar menu and tap the box beside Birthdays to uncheck it.

If you use multiple Google Accounts and want to remove birthdays imported from just one of them, open Calendar settings, select Birthdays, and turn off that account under Sync from Contacts. The imported birthdays are removed from Calendar, while the information remains in Contacts.
This setting is broader than a birthday-only switch: Google says it removes all synced events for that account, including important dates and changes made to those events. Use it only if you want those other synced dates removed too. The account-specific setting is covered in Google’s computer, Android, and iPhone and iPad instructions.
Can you permanently delete the Birthdays calendar?
Google’s birthday guidance documents hiding the Birthdays calendar and changing which accounts sync contacts. It does not document a permanent-delete control for the generated Birthdays calendar. Google’s general instructions for deleting a secondary calendar or unsubscribing from one do not establish that the generated Birthdays calendar is an ordinary secondary calendar that can be permanently deleted; see Google’s calendar deletion and unsubscribe guidance.

A Google Calendar Help Community thread asks about permanently deleting the Birthdays calendar, but community guidance is labeled as potentially unverified and includes conflicting advice. It is not authoritative confirmation of a permanent-delete option: the community discussion.
If a birthday remains visible on an iPhone or iPad
Apple Contacts birthdays can also appear as Calendar events on an iPhone or iPad. Google notes that these Apple Contacts birthdays do not sync to Android devices or the web. If a birthday remains on an iPhone after you change Google-sourced birthday settings, check whether it comes from Apple Contacts; Google’s iPhone and iPad birthday guidance describes this distinction.
