Before you scan: choose a focused search
Duplicate Files Finder is a module inside Glary Utilities. Start with the drives or folders relevant to your cleanup rather than scanning everything by default. A narrower scan can make the results easier to review.

You can also limit the scan to selected file types and add folders to the exclusion list. Use those controls if you want to focus on certain kinds of files or avoid locations you do not want included.

How to find and remove duplicate files
- Open the finder. In Glary Utilities, open Duplicate Files Finder, then choose Scan for duplicate files to start the scanning wizard.
- Choose scan locations. Select the drives or folders to scan and continue. Glarysoft’s instructions note that scanning may take some time.
- Set the scan parameters. Choose whether to scan all files or restrict the search to listed file types. The available parameters include file type, name, size, and creation date.
- Exclude folders if needed. Use the exclusion-list controls to add any folders you do not want scanned, then continue and let the scan finish.
- Review the results. Duplicate files appear in groups. For a selected result, inspect its path, name, size, modified date, and file state. If useful, preview a picture or open a file with its associated program.
- Select only the copies to remove. In each group, leave unchecked the copy you want to keep and check only the copies you have decided to delete. Glarysoft also documents Check Intelligent for selecting files across groups, with options involving originals, size, and date. Review the resulting selections rather than assuming a bulk choice is correct.
- Delete the checked files. Choose Delete checked files. Glarysoft’s Knowledge Base says the default is to send those files to the Recycle Bin.
How to decide which copy to keep
A matching name by itself does not establish that two files are interchangeable. Compare the paths and other listed properties, and inspect or open files when you are unsure. Keep the copy you intend to retain, then check only the others you have verified as removable. This matters especially when files are stored in different project, backup, or application folders.

The Recycle Bin default gives you a chance to review a deletion, but it is not a guarantee of recovery: do not assume a file can be restored after the bin is emptied.
Which Glary product and version are these steps for?
These steps describe the Duplicate Files Finder module in Glary Utilities, not Glary Duplicate Cleaner, which Glarysoft lists as a separate product. Official Glary Utilities pages displayed different version information: the download page listed version 6.47.0.51 with an August 31, 2026 release date, while the Download Center displayed version 6.48 without a captured release date. Because those listings conflict, check Glarysoft’s download page for its current version and interface details rather than relying on a single version number. The cited download listing identifies Windows support; do not take its mention of older Windows releases as a recommendation to use unsupported systems.

The official instructions do not specify the duplicate-detection algorithm or clarify behavior for network shares and cloud-synced folders. If your cleanup depends on either, do not assume how those locations will be handled.
