To remove one site shortcut from Chrome’s New Tab page on a computer, hover over it, click the three-dot More control, then choose Remove. On Android, touch and hold the shortcut and tap Remove. On iPhone or iPad, touch and hold it and choose Never Show This Site.
Remove one shortcut on a computer
- Open a new tab in Chrome.
- Move the pointer over the site shortcut you want to remove.
- Click the More control at the shortcut’s top right.
- Choose Remove. If you only want to change the shortcut’s name or URL, choose Edit shortcut instead.
Google’s Chrome New Tab page instructions describe these desktop controls. The standard desktop customization may require you to be signed in to a Google Account and have Google set as the default search engine.

Hide every shortcut instead
Removing a shortcut affects an individual site; hiding shortcuts turns off the section’s visibility. On a computer, open Customize Chrome at the bottom right of the New Tab page. Under Shortcuts, you can choose My shortcuts or Most visited sites, or switch off Show shortcuts to hide the section.
On Android, open a New Tab page and use the My shortcuts on/off control to hide or show shortcuts. Google says custom shortcuts on Android do not sync to other devices.

Remove a shortcut on Android
- Open a New Tab page in Chrome.
- Touch and hold the shortcut.
- Tap Remove.
Android’s shortcut menu separates actions such as pinning, unpinning, editing, and removing. Choose the action that matches what you want to change. See Google’s Chrome help for Android.
Remove a shortcut on iPhone or iPad
Touch and hold the shortcut to open its management options. For permanent removal, select Never Show This Site. Pinning or editing a pinned shortcut is a separate action. Google’s Chrome help for iPhone and iPad uses this label for removal.

If the shortcut controls are missing
- Check that you are on Chrome’s standard New Tab page. An extension can control what appears on the New Tab page, including its footer.
- Check desktop customization requirements. Google says the Customize Chrome controls may depend on signing in to a Google Account and using Google as the default search engine.
- Consider device management. A managed device may affect the page; Google notes that Chrome can add shortcuts to Drive files automatically on some managed devices.
If those conditions do not explain the difference, Google’s official instructions do not identify one universal fix for every modified or managed setup.
Shortcut or pinned tab? Check which one you mean
A site tile on the New Tab page is not the same as a pinned tab in the browser’s tab strip. Pinned tabs are smaller and show only the site icon. To undo a browser-tab pin, right-click the tab and choose Unpin, following Google’s instructions for managing Chrome tabs.
