First verify what the reimage will erase and back up anything you need. Then connect to the clean server over SSH and follow aaPanel’s current Quick Start. The exact reimage controls and data-retention behavior depend on your host; aaPanel does not define them.
What reimaging does—and what to check first
Reimaging generally replaces the operating system on an existing VPS or cloud server. It can provide the clean Linux starting point aaPanel expects, but it is not a universal backup or recovery process. The hosting provider determines which data is erased, what happens to attached storage, and how the operation is started.

- Identify files, databases, configuration, and other server data you need to keep.
- Use your provider’s documented backup process, and verify that the backup is usable before proceeding.
- Check the provider’s reimage documentation for what the operation affects, including any separately attached volumes.
- Make sure you can access the server again after the operating system is replaced, using the credentials or access method the provider supplies.
Because the provider and server are unspecified, there is no reliable universal dashboard path or promise about retention, timing, or recovery. Follow the instructions for your particular host rather than assuming that a reimage preserves data.

Choose a Linux image listed by aaPanel
aaPanel’s current Quick Start recommends Ubuntu 22.04 and also lists Ubuntu 24/26, Debian 11–13, CentOS 9/10, AlmaLinux 8–10, and Rocky Linux 8–10. The Quick Start’s list should guide your choice, but verify it before reimaging: aaPanel’s other pages show older or different OS lists. Select a version that appears in the current documentation and is available from your provider.

These are compatibility choices, not a performance ranking: aaPanel’s cited material does not establish comparative performance or security benchmarks among the distributions. The Quick Start states minimum resources of 1 CPU core, 512 MB RAM, and 1 GB storage. Those are aaPanel-published minimums, not a production workload recommendation.
Reimage through your hosting provider
- Open the provider’s documentation or support instructions for reinstalling or replacing the OS on your specific VPS or cloud server.
- Choose a supported Linux image that the provider offers. If your preferred version is not listed by the host, do not assume a different version is compatible; check aaPanel’s current Quick Start first.
- Complete the provider’s reimage workflow, following its warnings about data and storage. There is no provider-independent sequence of buttons or labels.
- Wait until the provider reports that the server is available, then use the new access details it provides.
The aaPanel documentation explains installation prerequisites, not third-party provider control panels. If you need click-by-click steps, consult the documentation for your own provider and server.

Install aaPanel on the clean server
aaPanel’s Quick Start begins with “I already have a Linux server and want to install aaPanel.” Its forum installation tutorial specifies a clean operating system without an existing Apache, Nginx, PHP, or MySQL environment. Reimaging is one way to obtain that clean state; if you are not reimaging, confirm that the existing server meets the installation prerequisite.
- Connect to the server over SSH using its IP address and the credentials or key supplied by your host.
- Follow the root-run installation instructions and current command in the aaPanel Quick Start. Using the live instructions avoids relying on a copied installer command that may become stale.
- Keep the installation output and save the generated panel address and login details securely.
The Quick Start includes example timing of “Time consumed: 1 Minute!” and describes installation as taking 2 minutes. These are aaPanel’s example and typical-time claims, not independently tested guarantees.

If the panel does not open
Use the panel address and port shown by the installer. If the page is inaccessible, check whether your provider’s firewall or security group allows inbound traffic to that displayed panel port. The rule is controlled by the provider’s networking interface, so its exact name and configuration steps vary by host.
Why older installation advice can conflict
aaPanel’s October 31, 2023 forum installation tutorial also describes a clean operating system, but its listed resource figures differ from the current Quick Start: it gives 512 MB memory, recommends 768 MB or more, and states 100 MB available disk space. Treat that as older guidance rather than the current minimum; the current Quick Start states 1 GB storage. aaPanel’s download page also presents OS information that may differ, so check the live Quick Start before choosing an image.
