The Note 17 Pro 5G has the bigger, sharper screen on paper
Xiaomi lists a 6.67-inch, 120Hz AMOLED panel for the Note 12 Pro 5G. The Note 17 Pro 5G’s listed display is 6.83 inches, 2772 × 1280, and up to 120Hz. Xiaomi describes the newer panel as 1.5K and claims peak brightness of up to 3500 nits. That brightness figure is the manufacturer’s specification, not an independently measured result here. The larger display may suit buyers who prefer more screen area, though the specification alone does not establish outdoor visibility or image quality.

The newer model’s capacity is substantially higher, but runtime is untested
Xiaomi lists a typical 9000mAh silicon-carbon battery for the Note 17 Pro 5G, compared with 5000mAh typical capacity for the Note 12 Pro 5G. Both list 67W charging; the newer model also lists 22.5W wired reverse charging. Capacity figures do not predict exact battery life: screen settings, network conditions, apps and usage affect runtime, and no independent battery test is available for this comparison.
Xiaomi’s India specification pages list a 67W charger in the box for both models, along with a protective case. The Note 12 Pro 5G package also lists a USB Type-C cable and SIM tool.

Chipsets: different platforms, no proven performance winner
The Note 12 Pro 5G uses MediaTek’s Dimensity 1080, listed as a 6nm processor. Xiaomi lists the Note 17 Pro 5G with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6s Gen 4, a 4nm chip. These are different generations and manufacturers, but names and manufacturing-process figures are not a substitute for comparable benchmark or real-world testing. The available specifications do not establish which phone is faster in games, multitasking or everyday use.

Camera hardware: similar headline resolution, different details
Both phones list a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and an 8MP ultra-wide camera. Xiaomi identifies the Note 12 Pro 5G’s main sensor as the Sony IMX766 and also lists a 2MP macro camera. The Note 17 Pro 5G specification page lists no macro camera. The Note 12 Pro 5G page also specifies rear video recording up to 4K at 30fps.

Megapixels, OIS and sensor names do not show which phone takes better photos in daylight, at night or in video. No independent camera comparison is established here, so choose based on tested image samples if camera quality is decisive.
Storage options and software to check before buying
The Note 12 Pro 5G has three listed India configurations: 6GB + 128GB, 8GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB. The Note 17 Pro 5G lists 8GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB. Xiaomi specifies LPDDR4X RAM for both; storage is UFS 2.2 on the newer phone’s 128GB version and UFS 3.1 on its 256GB version.

Do not treat the newer model’s listed software as a promise about how long it will receive updates; check Xiaomi’s current support information for the exact device before purchase.

As of the 2026 access date for the official Xiaomi India listings, one listing showed ₹36,999 for the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G with 8GB + 128GB and displayed ₹49,999 as a marketing price. Another official listing showed the phone as out of stock. The Note 12 Pro 5G’s official buy page did not surface a populated current selling price. These volatile listing details are not an audited street-price survey.

That evidence does not support a current like-for-like price difference. In particular, subtracting an older launch price or a third-party comparison-site figure from the newer phone’s listing price would mix dates, sources or configurations. For a fair delta, check both phones on the same date, from the same sales channel, and with the same RAM and storage capacity; availability may limit that comparison.
Which phone makes more sense for your needs?
- Consider the Note 17 Pro 5G if its larger, higher-resolution display, higher stated battery capacity, reverse charging or listed Android 16 software are priorities—and if its current price and availability work for you.
- Consider the Note 12 Pro 5G if you find it at a compelling current price, want the explicitly identified Sony IMX766 main sensor or the listed macro camera, or prefer a smaller display. Its present India selling price must be checked because the official buy page did not provide a current populated amount.
- Do not choose on an assumed camera or speed advantage based only on megapixels, chip names or process sizes. Those outcomes need comparable independent tests.
