Start by identifying the exact Mexico mod you installed: a Mexico map expansion and a minimap replacement are different mods with different requirements. Check that mod’s current page, then verify its prerequisites and file locations before changing anything. Some apparent failures are documented behavior—for example, one Mexico expansion relies on trains travelling from New Austin rather than spawning them in Mexico.
Identify the mod and the symptom
“Mexico mod” can mean several things in Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2). Nuevo Paraiso Mexico mod WIP adds part of RDR1’s Nuevo Paraíso map to RDR2. Mexico on Minimap changes the minimap interface. The Mexico Expansion Project page describes a separate expansion and is marked outdated.

Before troubleshooting, note the mod’s exact name and version, its download page, your RDR2 edition or build, and what fails. “Not working” might mean the game crashes, the Mexico area is absent, the minimap does not show Mexico, or a particular train or railway feature is missing. These symptoms do not point to the same fix.
Check the mod page before installing or removing files
Use the current instructions for the exact mod and version you have. The Mexico Expansion Project page at Nexus Mods is explicitly labeled outdated and points users to a newer page: Mexico Expansion Project on Nexus Mods. Confirm its current instructions there rather than assuming steps from the older page still apply.

The Nuevo Paraiso page describes its project as early access and unfinished. Its listed requirements and instructions may change, so use the page itself as the authority for that download. A requirement listed for one Mexico mod does not automatically apply to another.
Match prerequisites to your specific mod
Nuevo Paraiso Mexico mod WIP
The page lists ScriptHook, Lenny’s Mod Loader (LML), Rampage Trainer, Online Content Unlocker, and a legal copy of the game among its requirements. It also recommends testing with a clean game and only the stated requirements installed. See the mod’s requirements and instructions for the current details.
Mexico on Minimap
This mod lists ScriptHookRDR2 and LML as requirements. Its instructions say to place the supplied lml folder in the game directory. Check the Mexico on Minimap page for the package-specific installation details.

Mexico Expansion Project
The older page describes moving its lml folder and .asi files into the game root, but it is marked outdated. Do not use that as a universal installation recipe or apply it to a different mod; check the current page linked from the outdated project listing.
Verify the destination and folder structure
When a mod’s instructions call for files in the game root, that means the RDR2 installation folder containing RDR2.exe. A common mistake is to extract a package into an extra nested folder, leaving the game unable to find the expected files. The RDR2 Comprehensive Modding Guide explains the game-root location and distinguishes root-level ASI script mods from LML asset-replacement mods.
Compare your installed folders with the exact mod page’s directions. Check that files intended for the root are alongside RDR2.exe, and that an LML install has the expected folder structure rather than an additional archive-named directory. Packages may contain different components, so do not move every file to the same place by default.

Test for conflicts with a clean baseline
If the files and prerequisites appear correct, isolate the mod from other add-ons. The Nuevo Paraiso page recommends starting with a clean game plus that mod’s requirements. Confirm whether the expected feature appears, then restore other mods in small batches. If the problem returns after adding a batch, narrow down which addition conflicts.
RDR2 mods can be incompatible, and the general modding guide discusses conflict management and load order. This is a diagnostic approach, not a guaranteed fix. The available instructions do not establish one version, launcher, or graphics-API rule that applies to every Mexico mod; check the exact current page for compatibility information.

Mexico or its structures are missing
Confirm that you installed a map expansion—not only a minimap mod—and that its current dependencies are present. Recheck the package’s LML or ASI file locations against that mod’s instructions. If the area still fails to appear, test with the clean baseline before investigating other mods.
Mexico does not appear on the minimap
For Mexico on Minimap, verify ScriptHookRDR2 and LML, then confirm that the supplied lml folder is in the game directory as the mod page specifies. Those instructions apply to this interface mod, not every Mexico expansion.
The Mexico Expansion Project train is absent
The older project documentation says it uses vanilla trains travelling from New Austin and does not spawn trains in Mexico. Allow time for a train to make the journey before treating its absence as an installation failure. This behavior is specific to that project’s documentation; check the current version’s page before relying on it.
The railway looks duplicated
The older instructions identify a possible conflict with a previous railway file at RedDeadRedemption2/lml/!Mexico/YMAP/rr.ymap. They suggest removing that older file to avoid duplicate track. Verify that the advice applies to your installed version before deleting anything; do not remove files solely because their names look similar.
The game crashes or reports errors
First confirm that the mod page is current and that you followed its own requirements and installation steps. The older Mexico Expansion Project page advises users to contact the mod author, listed as Rixus724, after confirming requirements are installed correctly. It does not provide a universal crash fix, and its page is outdated.
