Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallTo connect Google Nest to a new Wi-Fi network, first identify the device: speakers and displays, thermostats, cameras and doorbells, Protect alarms, and Nest Connect each have different steps. Reusing the old network name and password on the new router may reconnect many Nest devices automatically; if that does not work, use the instructions for your specific product below.
Before changing Wi-Fi, check whether you can keep the old network details
If possible, set the new router to use the same Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password as the old one. Google says this is the simplest solution for most Nest products and will usually work when the router’s manufacturer settings are also the same. It is not guaranteed, so if a device stays offline, update its Wi-Fi using the device-specific steps below. Google’s camera and doorbell Wi-Fi guidance explains this option.

Choose the instructions for your Nest device
Use the product name and, for a thermostat, its generation. Google’s guide to connecting Nest and Home devices to a new Wi-Fi network separates these procedures.

Reconnect a Nest speaker or display
- Open the Google Home app and select the speaker or display.
- Tap Settings > Device information > Wi-Fi > Forget this network.
- Return to the Home screen and follow the app’s add or setup flow to connect the device to the new Wi-Fi.
A speaker or display remembers one Wi-Fi network at a time. If forgetting the old network fails, or setup will not complete on the new network, factory reset the device and set it up again. See Google’s speaker and display Wi-Fi instructions.

Change Wi-Fi on a Nest thermostat
Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen) and Nest Thermostat
- Stand near the thermostat and open the Google Home app.
- Select the thermostat, then tap Settings > Device information > Wi-Fi.
- Follow the app prompts to select the new network and enter its password.
Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd gen or earlier) and Nest Thermostat E
- Press the thermostat ring to open its controls.
- Select Settings > Network.
- Choose the new Wi-Fi network and enter its password.
Reconnect a Nest camera or doorbell
You can try updating the connection in the Nest app first. Open Settings > Home info > Home Wi-Fi help, choose the camera, then tap Start > Update settings.
If that does not work, remove the camera or doorbell from Google Home and add it again by scanning its QR code, then complete setup with the new Wi-Fi details. Save any important camera clips before removing it: Google says removing a camera permanently deletes its recorded video history. When an online camera or doorbell is removed, it should factory reset automatically; if it is offline, you need to factory reset it manually before setting it up again. Follow Google’s camera and doorbell Wi-Fi instructions.

Google recommends checking the setup device and network before resetting a Nest product. Try these checks in order:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Connect the phone or tablet to Wi-Fi, turn on Bluetooth, and turn off cellular data during setup.
- On iOS 14 or later, allow local network access for the Google Home or Nest app.
- Restart the app and the phone or tablet.
- Restart the modem and router, then restart the Nest device.
- Move the phone and Nest device closer to the router during setup.
- Check that the router uses Google’s recommended settings.
- If pairing still fails, reset the Nest device and try setup again. If QR scanning fails, use the device’s manual setup key where available.
For thermostat pairing, Google specifies that the thermostat should have a charge of 3.8 V or more. See Google’s Nest and Home device pairing troubleshooting guide for the full checks.

Nest Wifi and Google Wifi are different
Nest Wifi and Google Wifi are router and mesh products, not client devices that need to join a replacement router’s Wi-Fi. If you mean setting up or troubleshooting a Nest Wifi router or point, use the separate router section in Google’s connection guide. Check that the primary router’s Ethernet WAN connection to the modem is secure and that both devices have power. DHCP is the default for most setups; some internet providers require PPPoE or a static IP instead.
