Which display is the better fit?
The Redmi listing specifies a 2396 × 1080 OLED panel, while the realme listing specifies an HD+ LCD at 1570 × 720. On resolution and panel type, the Redmi has the stronger listed specifications. The realme counters with a maximum refresh rate of 144 Hz, compared with the Redmi’s up-to-120 Hz listing. That higher ceiling may suit someone who prioritizes refresh rate, but it does not by itself guarantee smoother performance in every app.

Both phones list a 50 MP main rear camera. The realme listing adds a 2 MP monochrome camera; Xiaomi’s India specification listing identifies a 50 MP main camera. For selfies, the listed resolutions are 16 MP on realme and 8 MP on Redmi. Megapixel counts alone do not establish which phone takes better photos: sensor, processing, lens and shooting conditions also affect image quality, and the supplied specifications do not provide comparative image tests.

Battery, charging and software support
Both India specification pages list an 8000 mAh typical battery and 45 W wired charging. The realme page also gives a rated capacity of 7780 mAh. These capacity figures do not establish equal runtime in everyday use.
Xiaomi advertises more than three days of light use, attributing the figure to Xiaomi Internal Lab testing on its India product page. This is a manufacturer test claim, not an independent head-to-head result or a promise for every usage pattern. Xiaomi also lists 22.5 W wired reverse charging for the Redmi.

The Xiaomi India product page says the Redmi will receive four years of OS updates and six years of security updates. The realme specifications page does not state a comparable support duration, so the available listing information cannot establish a direct difference in update-support length. The software versions listed are realme UI 7.0 and Xiaomi HyperOS 3, respectively.

India price difference: a retailer snapshot
A 91mobiles comparison page displayed ₹29,999 for the realme 16T 5G and ₹27,999 for the Xiaomi REDMI Note 17 5G when accessed in 2026. On that page, the realme was ₹2,000 higher. Treat these figures as a third-party listing snapshot, not official launch prices or guaranteed live offers; the manufacturer pages do not establish current selling prices. Check the retailer’s current price and stock before buying.

Check the regional Redmi variant before comparing
This comparison is specific to India. Xiaomi’s global and UK listings show different Redmi Note 17 5G specifications: a 7700 mAh battery and a 16 MP front camera, rather than the 8000 mAh typical battery and 8 MP front camera listed by Xiaomi India. See Xiaomi’s global specifications and UK specifications. Those regional figures should not be mixed into an India-market comparison; confirm the market and exact model for any phone sold across regions.
