You can shorten the path from a working React Native project to a tester-ready build by keeping the first release small, using a development build for iteration, and automating production builds and uploads. The “days, not months” goal is a workflow target—not a guaranteed launch schedule. Store accounts, signing, listing details, testing, review, and release decisions still take time outside the build pipeline.
What actually makes a React Native release move faster?
Focus on removing avoidable waiting, not skipping release work. Choose a small first version that delivers one clear use case, can be installed and tested, and does not depend on late-stage optional native integrations. A smaller scope is easier to configure and validate; there is no reliable universal number of days saved.

In parallel, settle who owns signing, store accounts, screenshots, listing metadata, release notes, testing, and review submission. Build automation helps most when these responsibilities and the first release’s boundaries are already clear.
Can you use Expo tools with an existing React Native project?
Yes. Expo defines an Expo app as a React Native app that uses Expo tools; it does not have to begin with create-expo-app. EAS Build supports projects made with common alternatives, including npx react-native, create-react-native-app, and Ignite. Using EAS does not by itself mean rewriting the app. See Expo’s first-build setup.

Choose a development loop before preparing the store release. Expo recommends a development build—a debug app containing expo-dev-client—as a flexible environment for iteration. It can be built locally or with EAS Build in the cloud. A development build is for development and testing; it is separate from the signed production artifact you submit to a store. Expo also describes internal distribution for sharing builds with testers. More detail is in its development workflow overview.
Prepare store access and signing before the production build
Store developer accounts and signing credentials are prerequisites for store builds and submission. EAS CLI can help manage signing credentials, but it cannot create the platform accounts or make store-side setup disappear.
- Google Play: Expo’s production-build documentation, accessed October 7, 2026, lists a one-time USD 25 Google Play Developer membership fee.
- Apple: The same Expo documentation lists a USD 99 Apple Developer Program membership requirement for production builds for Apple’s App Store using EAS.
These are figures stated by Expo’s documentation, not a guarantee that fees remain unchanged; check the current platform and Expo requirements before budgeting. Start account setup early so it does not become the critical path after the app is ready. See Expo’s production build guide.

Build a signed production binary
With the project configured and credentials ready, EAS Build can create a store-ready binary. The documented commands are:
eas build --platform androidfor Android.eas build --platform iosfor iOS.eas build --platform allfor both platforms.
Android store submission normally uses an Android App Bundle (.aab); iOS distribution uses a signed .ipa. Builds can also be made locally, and Expo says an existing CI service can compile Expo apps if it supports the Android and iOS toolchains. EAS is an option, not a requirement.
Expo says builds for a small app trigger within a few minutes. That is Expo’s statement about build triggering, not a measured end-to-end delivery time or a promise about when a binary will finish, pass testing, or be approved. Keep build time separate from store processing and review time.

Automate uploads, but follow the platform-specific release path
EAS Submit can upload valid, correctly signed binaries built with EAS Build or another build process. The command eas build --auto-submit combines a build with automatic binary upload. It automates those pipeline steps; it does not complete a store listing, choose every release decision, or guarantee a public launch. Expo’s submission guide explains the upload workflow.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Android: upload to a Play Console track
An Android upload goes to a selected Google Play Console track. For a brand-new app, EAS Submit can create an internal testing release by default. Complete the Play Console listing and setup before promoting beyond internal testing. Uploading a bundle is not the same as releasing it to all users; track selection and promotion remain explicit release decisions. See Expo’s submission automation guide.
iOS: TestFlight first, App Review separately
EAS Submit uploads the .ipa to App Store Connect, and the build becomes available in TestFlight after processing. Expo gives 10–15 minutes as a usual processing estimate; it is not an App Review or public-release estimate. By default, automated EAS submission sends the build to TestFlight rather than submitting it for App Store review.

For public distribution, complete the App Store metadata and screenshots, select the build, and submit it for App Review. Promotion from TestFlight to App Store review is a separate, manual step. Treat “uploaded” and “available to testers” as different milestones from “submitted for review” and “released.”

Use the time while builds are compiling and testers are trying the app to finish release materials and resolve issues. Assign one person to own the store listing and release handoff, even in a small team.
Recommended Free Tools
- Prepare the app name, description, required metadata, screenshots, and release notes.
- Install the development or internal build on representative devices and have testers exercise the core flow.
- Record defects, decide which block release, and create a new production build when fixes require one.
- For iOS, confirm the chosen build and required App Store Connect information before submitting for review.
- For Android, confirm the intended Play Console track and the conditions for promotion.
EAS Submit handles binary upload, not store listing metadata or screenshots. If you prefer the direct native iOS route, React Native documents selecting the Release scheme, archiving in Xcode, uploading to App Store Connect, completing required information, and submitting for review in its iOS publishing guide, last updated August 12, 2026.

Choose the release path that fits your team
| Path | Useful when | Trade-offs and boundaries |
|---|---|---|
| EAS Build and EAS Submit | You want cloud builds, signing assistance, binary uploads, or integration with Expo workflows and CI. | Store accounts, listing work, testing, and platform-controlled review and release remain. Android track selection and iOS TestFlight/App Review follow different paths. |
| Local or native builds with manual upload | You want direct control or already have a native release process. | You own local platform tooling and signing setup. React Native’s iOS guide documents the Xcode archive and App Store Connect route. |
| Your existing CI service with an Expo build workflow | Your team already operates CI and wants compilation to stay there. | The service must be capable of compiling for Android and iOS; your team still owns configuration and store setup. |
Compare the options by project compatibility, cloud versus local compilation, signing and credential ownership, CI integration, store-account readiness, and who owns testing, listing assets, track selection, review submission, updates, and rollback. Expo calls EAS Submit its recommended path because it works from any OS, integrates with EAS Build and EAS Workflows, and can run from CI/CD. That is a vendor recommendation, not a requirement to use EAS.
After release: monitor and plan updates
Once users have the app, monitor crashes and app health so you can identify problems that escaped testing. Expo’s workflow overview names crash reporting and analytics as production monitoring categories and lists Sentry and BugSnag as possible crash-reporting options; it does not compare their cost or performance.
Expo describes expo-updates and EAS Update as ways to deliver JavaScript updates to production apps. Do not assume every change can bypass store review: the cited guidance establishes JavaScript update capability, not a blanket exemption for native-code changes, entitlements, or store-policy requirements. See Expo’s EAS services overview.
