The Pro’s variable-aperture main camera is a distinctive feature, but buyers who want a larger screen and longer manufacturer-claimed video playback may prefer the Pro Max. If keeping the price down matters more than Pro camera controls, consider the less expensive models available in your market rather than paying for features you will not use.

The iPhone 18 Pro is worth considering if you will use its variable-aperture camera and ProMotion display enough to justify its price. Its 48MP Fusion Main camera has variable aperture; Apple describes it as the first iPhone with aperture control. That gives photographers a new camera control, but Apple’s announcement alone does not establish how much better its photos are than those from other phones or earlier iPhones.

Apple lists a 6.3-inch diagonal OLED display with 2622-by-1206 resolution at 460 pixels per inch, Always-On display, Dynamic Island and adaptive ProMotion refresh rates up to 120Hz. The A20 Pro powers the phone. Apple reports up to a 40% sustained-performance gain over the previous generation; that is the company’s claim, not an independently verified benchmark in this guide.
Storage comes in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB capacities. Choose based on how much video, photography, apps and offline content you keep on the phone; paying for more capacity is difficult to justify if your current storage use is modest.

What do the iPhone 18 Pro’s durability and software claims mean?
Apple rates the phone IP68 under IEC 60529, with a maximum depth of 6 metres for up to 30 minutes under laboratory conditions. That does not make it waterproof. Apple says water resistance can decrease with wear and liquid damage is not covered under warranty. The aluminum unibody, Ceramic Shield 2 front and Ceramic Shield back are manufacturer specifications, not independent durability test results.

Apple’s support notes say Siri AI is in beta in iOS 27 and starts in English. They also say it will not initially be available in the EU on iOS, and that some Apple Intelligence features vary by language and region. Availability can change; check Apple’s current iPhone 18 Pro technical specifications and regional software information before buying if these features matter to you.

What comes in the box, and what else might you need?
Apple includes a USB-C cable, but not a power adapter or EarPods. If you do not already have a compatible USB-C adapter, you will need to buy one separately. Check the adapter’s stated charging capability; no specific third-party charger has been tested here.
A case is optional, but if you buy one, confirm that the product listing names the iPhone 18 Pro specifically. For wireless charging or strap compatibility, check the listing for the required MagSafe and accessory support rather than assuming every case offers it. Apple lists Silicone and TechWoven cases, Crossbody Straps and FineWoven Wallets for the Pro models; it says its Clear Case is compatible with Crossbody and Wrist Straps. Accessories are sold separately.
What prices, trade-ins and promotions should you check?
Apple’s September 9, 2026 US announcement listed the iPhone 18 Pro at $1,199 and Pro Max at $1,299. It also described eligible US Apple Trade In credit of $175–$885 for iPhone 13-or-later trade-ins, and said select carriers may offer up to $1,200 in credits for trade-ins of iPhone 14 or later in any condition. These are conditional offers, not guaranteed cash discounts; confirm eligibility, carrier requirements and current terms before relying on them.
Apple’s UK buying page, accessed October 7, 2026, listed trade-in credit of £130–£855 for eligible iPhone 13-or-later devices toward iPhone Duo or iPhone 18 Pro. The amount depends on eligibility and offer terms. Check the current price and trade-in value in your country before deciding whether an upgrade is affordable.
