You can select six polling stages in Razer Synapse 3, from 125 Hz to 8,000 Hz. That top setting corresponds to a 0.125 ms reporting interval, according to Razer; it is not a guarantee of a noticeable advantage in every game or on every PC.
What the Razer Viper 8KHz is
Razer identifies this wired mouse as model RZ01-03580. Its specifications include an ambidextrous design, eight independently programmable buttons, a Focus+ optical sensor rated up to 20,000 DPI, and second-generation optical switches rated for 70 million clicks. It has a tactile scroll wheel and a 1.8 m (6 ft) Speedflex cable. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. Razer product page · Razer Support specifications

Razer also lists a maximum tracking speed of up to 650 inches per second and acceleration up to 50 G. Those figures describe the sensor’s stated capabilities; they do not indicate how much polling rate a particular game or computer will use.
What 8,000 Hz polling means
Polling rate is how often a mouse reports its state to the computer. Razer describes 8,000 Hz as up to 8,000 reports per second, or one report every 0.125 ms. A higher rate means reports can be sent at shorter intervals, but it does not by itself establish that movement will feel better or that a game will show a measurable improvement.

The 8,000 Hz figure is the Viper’s maximum, not the only available setting. Its product FAQ lists six stages and shows 8,000 Hz as the default. Razer product page and FAQ
| Polling setting | Nominal interval between reports |
|---|---|
| 125 Hz | 8 ms |
| 500 Hz | 2 ms |
| 1,000 Hz | 1 ms |
| 2,000 Hz | 0.5 ms |
| 4,000 Hz | 0.25 ms |
| 8,000 Hz | 0.125 ms |
The intervals above are calculated from the listed polling frequencies (1,000 milliseconds divided by reports per second); they are not a promise of end-to-end input latency. Other parts of the computer, game, display, and input pipeline also affect response.

How to configure the mouse and connect it
- Connect the mouse directly. Razer’s product guide recommends a direct USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port to optimize polling. It cautions that a hub, switch, or extender may affect performance. Razer product guide
- Open Razer Synapse 3. Razer specifies Synapse 3 for changing polling stages and configuring button mappings, macros, and lighting. The available sources do not establish a more specific current menu path, so use the Viper’s device controls in the software rather than relying on an undocumented sequence.
- Select a polling stage. Choose among 125, 500, 1,000, 2,000, 4,000, or 8,000 Hz in the device’s polling-rate controls.
- Set other preferences as needed. Use Synapse 3 for button assignments, macros, and lighting. Razer Support also lists onboard DPI storage and an underside DPI toggle; consult the software and device controls to adjust sensitivity. Razer Support
Razer’s product page specifically advises plugging the mouse into an available USB port directly when testing polling rate. A connection through a hub or extender is therefore not the best starting point for checking whether the selected rate is operating as intended. Razer product page

Razer presents higher polling as a way to reduce the interval between reports. Its specifications support that technical description, but the official materials cited here do not provide independent, game-by-game comparisons confirming a universal or perceptible gameplay gain. Treat benefit claims as Razer’s position unless supported by testing relevant to your hardware and games.

In a Razer newsroom announcement dated January 28, 2021, Alvin Cheung, then Senior Vice President of Razer’s peripherals business unit, said: “Latency is a very important part of gameplay and yet it is overlooked by many companies that focused for too long on increasing DPI.” This is Cheung’s view in a company announcement, not independent evidence of the mouse’s real-world performance.
