That does not mean it automatically updates every Windows driver or your Razer device’s firmware: Razer directs Windows driver updates through Windows Update and documents a separate, model-specific process for peripheral firmware.
What updates automatically in Razer Synapse?
Razer says Synapse software updates install automatically in the background. When an update is available, a prompt appears on the Synapse dashboard; you can also check for updates manually. These are updates to the Synapse application itself, not a blanket update process for every driver or device component. Razer’s update instructions were updated May 13, 2026.

How to update a Razer device’s firmware
Firmware is device-specific and is not the same as a Synapse application update or a Windows driver. Find the support page for your exact Razer model, download the updater provided for that device, and follow its instructions. Razer’s documented updater process includes closing Synapse and other applications, connecting the device, running the updater, and waiting for it to finish. Follow the exact model’s guidance rather than assuming one updater applies to all Razer devices. Razer firmware updater instructions.

What Synapse version are you using?
Synapse 4
Razer identifies Synapse 4 as the replacement for Synapse 3. Its installation or upgrade guidance, updated August 18, 2026, lists Windows 10 or 11 64-bit, a Razer ID, the software download, acceptance of the license terms, and internet access to activate full features and software updates. Razer says installing the new applications uninstalls Synapse 3. Check Razer’s Synapse installation and upgrade steps.
Synapse 3
Synapse 3 stopped receiving updates and cloud services on February 3, 2026. Razer says devices already configured in an installed Synapse 3 setup remain configurable there, but recommends moving to Synapse 4 for continued customization if a device is fully uninstalled and for support of new hardware. Razer’s Synapse 3 support information was updated September 10, 2026.

Does a Razer device need Synapse to work?
Not necessarily. Basic operation and Synapse’s extra configuration features are distinct. For example, Razer says the DeathAdder V2 supports standard mouse functions when connected by USB; Synapse enables advanced features such as macros, profiles, and lighting. That example applies to the DeathAdder V2, not every Razer peripheral. See the DeathAdder V2 support and firmware information.
