The original Razer Basilisk V3 is a wired, right-handed gaming mouse whose strongest documented draws are 11 programmable buttons and a scroll wheel that can switch between tactile notches and free-spin. Its trade-offs are equally clear: it uses a cable, weighs 101 g without that cable, and relies on Razer Synapse for key configuration. It is a feature-rich option to consider if those controls suit your setup—not a proven fit for every hand or grip.
What is the Razer Basilisk V3?
This review covers the original wired Razer Basilisk V3, model family RZ01-04000100. It is distinct from the wireless Basilisk V3 Pro and the later Basilisk V3 35K. Razer lists the original model’s maximum sensitivity as 26,000 DPI; the 35K model’s figure does not apply here.

How do the buttons and scroll wheel work?
Eleven buttons, including an underside profile button
Razer’s “10+1” count means 10 accessible buttons plus a customizable profile-switch button on the underside. By default, that underside control switches among onboard profiles; Razer says it can be reassigned in Synapse. The mouse also supports HyperShift, which Razer describes as adding a secondary button profile. The profile button is not a removable trigger.
Eleven programmable controls may suit players or power users who want shortcuts close at hand. Whether the layout is comfortable or efficient depends on your hand, grip and preferred controls; documented specifications alone cannot settle that fit question.

Notched, free-spin and tilt scrolling
The wheel supports tactile notched scrolling for controlled steps and free-spin for smoother, faster movement through long pages or documents. It also tilts in four directions, adding horizontal input as well as the usual vertical scroll.

Razer describes two software options: Smart-Reel can switch from tactile to free-spin when the wheel is spun faster, while virtual acceleration increases scrolling speed as the wheel spins faster. These options are configured through Synapse. This combination makes the wheel a central feature, but whether its modes are useful depends on how you scroll and whether you want software-managed behavior.

What does setup require?
The official manual says the mouse requires a USB-A port. It lists Windows 10 64-bit or higher and an internet connection for installing Razer Synapse; Razer’s product FAQ names Synapse 3 for button mappings, macros and lighting. The available specifications do not establish support for other operating systems, so check Razer’s current compatibility information if your computer does not meet those stated requirements.
Razer describes the mouse’s configuration through Synapse. If you prefer a setup that avoids vendor software for assigning buttons, macros or lighting, that dependence is a relevant drawback. Razer’s documentation is available in the Basilisk V3 manual and the official product FAQ.

Who should consider the wired Basilisk V3?
- Consider it if you want a right-handed wired mouse with many programmable controls, onboard profiles and a wheel that offers both notched and free-spin modes.
- Look elsewhere if you specifically need a wireless mouse, a lighter listed weight, or a shape verified to fit your hand. Razer lists 101 g without the cable, and no hand-size or grip testing is established here.
- Check your software preference if you want to customize mappings, macros or lighting: Razer identifies Synapse 3 for those tasks.
For comparisons with other mice, focus on connection, shape and handedness, weight, control placement, scroll behavior and software dependence—not maximum DPI alone. Current price and comparative performance have not been established here, so neither a present-day value verdict nor a performance ranking is warranted.
Verdict
The original Razer Basilisk V3 makes the most sense for someone who wants a wired, right-handed mouse centered on customizable controls and an adaptable scroll wheel. Its published specifications are substantial, but they cannot prove comfort, tracking quality, durability in use or superiority over alternatives. Decide based on its cable, 101 g listed weight, Synapse-based configuration and control layout—and make sure you are looking at the wired Basilisk V3 rather than the Pro or 35K model.
