Faizullaganj remained waterlogged after rain eased because the Gomti was still high and drains were reportedly choked, slowing the removal of water from low-lying riverside colonies. Reports published October 2–4, 2026 describe residents moving by boat, homes submerged and relief efforts continuing. The counts and conditions changed across those reports, so no single figure should be read as the current total.
Why flooding continued after the rain eased
A Hindustan Times report published October 2 attributed the prolonged waterlogging to elevated Gomti levels and choked drains. It said drain water was entering the river and that heavy rain in Pilibhit, Bareilly and Hardoi had also contributed to the rise. These are factors reported by the newspaper, not independently verified hydrological findings.

The same report cited Met department data showing Lucknow received 849.3 mm of rainfall from June 1 through September 30, 2026. That seasonal total provides context for the flooding, but it does not establish the river’s level on a particular day or explain how quickly water would recede in each neighbourhood.
Municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar described Faizullaganj as a natural catchment: “Faizullaganj is a catchment area, where river water comes in naturally. Until an embankment is constructed, the problem cannot be resolved permanently.” The statement, reported by Hindustan Times on October 2, points to the area’s exposure to rising river water as well as the limits of short-term drainage and relief.

What residents were facing
Hindustan Times reported on October 2 that more than 200 houses were submerged and 15–16 colonies inundated. Those are figures from that dated report, not a verified count for October 4 or a definitive total for the event. Reports published October 3 and 4 show flooding and relief activity continued, but do not establish a comparable updated household count.
Accounts in the reports describe residents leaving homes, travelling by boat and dealing with electricity disruption. Some people stayed behind to guard their property. Abdul Hadi told Hindustan Times that he and others had become “guards of our houses” because of concern about night-time theft, and said that no authorities had visited his portion despite calls to the district magistrate’s CUG number. This is one resident’s account; the same report also described official relief arrangements.

Relief reported, and what remains uncertain
The October 2 Hindustan Times report described two temporary shelters, boats, extra lighting, anti-larval spraying, fogging and teams on 24-hour duty. Later reports described supplies delivered by boat, water tankers, a medical camp and dry-ration kits. Amar Ujala reported that the district magistrate visited by boat on October 4, distributed dry-ration kits, spoke with affected families and directed continued monitoring and relief.
These reports establish that measures were announced or carried out in some form; they do not show that every affected household received aid, that access was uniform, or that the assistance met all needs. The sources also do not provide a verified current Gomti gauge reading or a reliable date when residents could return safely.

An embankment is proposed, not yet confirmed as a project under way
Immediate measures such as shelters, boats and supplies address urgent needs. An embankment is a longer-term structural response intended to reduce the area’s exposure to river water. Hindustan Times described the proposed embankment as part of the Lucknow Development Authority’s Green Corridor plan.
A Times of India report dated October 4 said the LDA had sent a proposed ₹182 crore embankment and road project for approval. That is a proposal, not confirmation of final approval, release of funds or a construction start. The reports do not establish a delivery schedule.
