NorthStar Earth & Space shares fell as much as 45% during the company’s first day of trading on the New York Stock Exchange, according to Bloomberg reporting syndicated by Yahoo Finance. That is the reported intraday low—not a confirmed loss for the full trading day. The report establishes the drop and the terms of NorthStar’s SPAC merger, but it does not establish why investors sold.

What happened to NorthStar shares?

Montreal-based NorthStar Earth & Space began trading on the NYSE under the ticker NSTR after completing a merger with blank-check company Viking Acquisition Corp. I. Bloomberg reported that the shares fell as much as 45% during the first trading day.

At 1:46 p.m. New York time, Bloomberg put the share price at $4.35 and the company’s market capitalization at $39.8 million. Those are intraday figures, not the closing price, final-day return or closing market value. The report does not provide an independently verified end-of-day quote.

Why did the stock fall?

The available reporting does not identify a definitive cause. It would be speculation to say the shares fell because of the company’s valuation, redemptions, liquidity, business performance or any other single factor.

The transaction details offer context, not proof of what drove trading. Bloomberg reported that the merger valued NorthStar at a $300 million pre-money equity valuation and included a $30 million private investment in public equity (PIPE), backed by Cartesian Capital Group and other institutional investors. CEO Stewart Bain told Bloomberg that most public shares had been redeemed before the merger, leaving only a small amount in Viking’s trust account. The report did not give the redemption count or NorthStar’s post-merger cash balance.

A pre-money deal valuation and a later market capitalization are different measures, taken at different points in a transaction and in trading. The reported $39.8 million market capitalization was an intraday estimate; by itself, it does not explain the selling or establish the company’s final post-merger value.

What does NorthStar do?

NorthStar sells space-surveillance capabilities for institutional and government customers, rather than a consumer product. Bloomberg describes a system that combines satellite sensors, imagery processing, data and artificial intelligence to identify and anticipate the positions of objects in space, with the goal of helping address collision threats. The report names the Royal Canadian Air Force and North American and European military entities as customers.

On a historical company page, NorthStar described its commercial service, Skylark, as intended to monitor Low Earth Orbit, Medium Earth Orbit, Geostationary Orbit and portions of cislunar space. That is the company’s past positioning; it does not independently verify current operational coverage.

What do the reported funding and revenue figures mean?

Bloomberg reported that NorthStar had received about $100 million in capital and was on track to earn more than $30 million in 2026 revenue. The revenue figure is a forward-looking company expectation reported by Bloomberg, not audited revenue already earned. The available report does not provide independent audited financial results.

Bain told Bloomberg, “Space is contested, congested, and needs to be more secure.” He also said, “You don’t pick your timing. You figure out how to ride the timing.” Neither statement supplies evidence about why the stock declined on debut.

How to read the debut figures

  • Up to 45%: the reported maximum intraday decline, not a verified close-to-close loss.
  • $4.35 per share and $39.8 million market capitalization: Bloomberg’s snapshot at 1:46 p.m. New York time, not closing figures.
  • $300 million pre-money valuation and $30 million PIPE: reported terms of the merger transaction, not a measure of the shares’ later trading performance.
  • More than $30 million in 2026 revenue: a reported projection, not a realized or audited result.

These figures come from Bloomberg’s account, syndicated by Yahoo Finance UK on October 2, 2026. No primary transaction filing or independent closing quote is cited in that report.
