There is no single best Chimera team for every RAID: Shadow Legends account. The boss changes form every five turns, its affinities rotate, and Trials can make Ultimate Form stronger. Build around the active rotation, survival, and the Trials your roster can complete reliably—not a generic five-Champion list.
How the Chimera Clan Boss fight works
Chimera is a Clan Boss encounter for Clan members. Plarium’s guide says it unlocks at player level 33 and each battle uses five Champions for exactly 65 turns. The fight begins in Ultimate Form and changes form every five turns. Ram, Lion, and Viper each appear twice during a battle; Ultimate appears seven times.

The encounter is therefore a sequence of different survival checks, not a single damage race. A team that performs well against one form may struggle when the boss changes mechanics. Four rotations run for 28 days each. Within a rotation, Ram, Lion, and Viper share an affinity, while Ultimate has a different affinity. Check the active rotation and the boss’s affinities in game before choosing Champions; a fixed affinity recommendation can become a poor fit when the rotation changes.

The form’s defining mechanic should shape how you protect your team and choose targets. Ram and Lion have specific interactions that can defeat familiar defensive plans; Viper is associated with Poison, while the available official details do not establish a complete counter strategy for it.

| Form | Key mechanic | Team-building implication |
|---|---|---|
| Ram | Duel links a producer and a target. The producer can use skills against the target, but the target is limited to default attacks against the producer. The producer deals 50% more damage to that target; Champions outside the Duel deal 50% less damage to a dueling target. | Be ready to damage the Duel bar, which equals 1% of the producer’s maximum HP, and keep the selected target alive. Taunt, Veil, and Perfect Veil do not take priority over Duel, so do not rely on them to redirect it. |
| Lion | Hunter’s Gaze marks a Champion. Direct skill damage against that Champion cannot be reduced, blocked, redirected, or transferred. It ignores effects including Unkillable, Block Damage, Increase DEF, Strengthen, Ally Protection, Veil, Perfect Veil, and Shield. Evasion can still avoid the damage. | Do not treat conventional mitigation or redirection as a dependable answer to the marked Champion’s direct-skill damage. This rule is specifically about direct skill damage; the guide distinguishes it from damage caused by debuffs, passives, Masteries, or Blessings. |
| Viper | Plarium identifies Viper with Poison. | Account for Poison when judging whether your team can survive the encounter. The available details do not support prescribing a specific Viper counter or exact setup. |
| Ultimate | Ultimate has no Trials of its own, but grows stronger as you complete more Trials. | Consider the added pressure from completed Trials when deciding how many to pursue in one run; more Trial progress is not automatically the best choice if it makes later survival unrealistic. |
Ram: manage the Duel, not just the damage
Duel cannot be resisted, blocked, removed, stolen, or spread. Depleting its bar ends the effect. The target restriction matters as much as the damage increase: the chosen target has limited ways to respond while the rest of the team deals less damage to a dueling target. Plan to keep that Champion alive while the team works through the bar rather than expecting a control buff to move the Duel elsewhere.
Lion: distinguish direct skill damage from other damage
Hunter’s Gaze is not a blanket statement that every kind of protection stops working. The official interaction applies to direct skill damage against the marked Champion. It does not establish the same rule for damage from debuffs, passives, Masteries, or Blessings. Evasion is the stated way to avoid the marked direct skill hit; ordinary defensive buffs should not be assumed to blunt it.
Viper and Ultimate: avoid unsupported counter claims
Poison is the useful identifying cue for Viper, but it is not enough on its own to justify a precise Champion list or counter recipe. For Ultimate, the practical planning point is its scaling with Trials completed. Exact thresholds and a full sequence of Ultimate changes are not established here, so use the live battle and in-game descriptions rather than relying on guessed breakpoints.

How Chimera Trials work
Trials apply to Ram, Lion, and Viper, not Ultimate. Plarium describes Easy, Normal, and Hard tiers, with the next tier unlocking after the previous one is completed. There are 27 Trials across the three special forms. Trial conditions and rewards vary, and rewards depend on both the Trial and Chimera difficulty.
- Review the active Trial conditions. Match each condition to your available Champions and the current rotation before committing a key.
- Use Free Regroup to experiment. The keyless option lets you test a team and return to team selection without preserving the run score. It is for trying a setup, not claiming Trial rewards.
- Complete a keyed battle to earn Trial rewards. A Trial reward requires a completed run that uses a Chimera Key; experimentation in Free Regroup does not qualify.
- Advance tiers only when the conditions are repeatable. Completing a tier unlocks the next one. Since more completed Trials strengthen Ultimate, weigh the reward against whether your team can still survive the later phases.
Trial requirements have changed. In a November 7, 2025 digest, Plarium reported lower thresholds for some conditions involving Ram damage and Duel-bar completion, Ram Stuns, Lion shield absorption, Block Damage or Unkillable, Reflect Damage or Pain Link, and Viper Poison damage with Poison Sensitivity. The same digest clarified a Lion condition involving a number of debuffs including Decrease RES: the required number must be active at the same time, but the debuffs do not have to be unique. Consult the current in-game Trial text rather than treating an older checklist as definitive. Plarium also announced a July 4, 2025 rebalance; its notice’s infographic does not provide readable detail here, so no additional exact changes should be inferred from it.
Trial completion and Clan versus Clan points
For Clan versus Clan scoring, Plarium says each completed Trial raises the multiplier, and the higher multiplier applies only to damage dealt after that Trial is completed. If your goal is Clash points, completing Trials earlier in the run can therefore increase the points value of later damage. That incentive has to be balanced against the extra difficulty Ultimate gains as Trials accumulate.

What is the best team for Chimera?
The best team is the strongest roster-specific team that survives the active rotation and completes the Trials you actually want. The official mechanics and third-party guidance do not establish one lineup as best across accounts, difficulties, affinities, and goals. Choose five Champions by testing the following factors against your roster:
- Survival: Can the lineup last through 65 turns and withstand the forms that cause trouble for your account?
- Form coverage: Can it manage Ram’s Duel without losing the selected target, handle Lion’s marked direct-skill hits, and cope with Viper’s Poison?
- Affinity: Do the Champions suit the active rotation’s affinities? Verify these in game before each run.
- Trial reliability: Can the team meet the conditions consistently without making the stronger Ultimate phases unmanageable?
- Your objective: A run aimed at personal damage and Clan rewards may call for a different balance than a run focused on Trial rewards or Clash points.
Start with a team that can stay alive, then add Trial conditions one at a time. If adding a Trial makes the later part of the fight unreliable, fewer completed Trials may be the better practical result than a high multiplier on a run that ends early. A Champion optimizer can help identify combinations from your own roster, but its suggestions are third-party tools, not official rankings or proof of a universally best lineup.
Keys, Clan damage, difficulties and rewards
Each weekly cycle provides two Chimera Keys, and each keyed battle consumes one. Clan members’ damage contributes to the shared boss total. Plarium says a player who contributes damage receives one Chimera Chest if the Clan does not defeat the boss and two if it does. Trial rewards are separate and require a completed keyed run.
Chimera has six difficulties: Easy, Normal, Hard, Brutal, Nightmare, and Ultra-Nightmare. A Clan unlocks the next difficulty by defeating the current one; the unlock is permanent for that Clan. Rewards listed by Plarium include Clan Gold, Clan XP, Starstones, Basalt, Gemstones, and Ocular Masses. A guide updated by HellHades on November 25, 2025 also describes Chimera as a recurring source of Relic materials and identifies Embrys the Anomaly as a Chimera-exclusive Mythical Champion. Availability and reward details can change, so check the live game for the current reward pool.
Quick Recap
A practical run-planning checklist
- Check the current rotation, form affinities, difficulty, and Trial text in game.
- Decide whether the run is primarily for survival and damage, Trial rewards, or Clash points.
- Use Free Regroup if you need to try a lineup without committing a key or preserving a run score.
- For a keyed attempt, prioritize survival through the full encounter and only pursue Trials your team can complete consistently.
- If a condition or reward description differs from an older guide, use the current in-game description.
