Quordle Rules Explained: How the Four Grids and Color Clues Work

Quordle uses nine guesses to solve four separate five-letter words. Here’s how to submit guesses and interpret each grid’s color clues.

Quordle asks you to solve four separate five-letter words at the same time, using nine guesses total. Each guess is checked against every unsolved grid, but each grid has its own answer and its own color clues.

How to play Quordle

Type a five-letter word and submit it. The guess appears across the boards, and each board returns feedback based on its own hidden answer. Keep entering guesses until you solve all four words or use all nine attempts. The accessible game page describes the game as free to play without sign-up or a download; current modes and any mode-specific exceptions are not established here. Quordle.me

Enter and submit a guess

The accessible rules guide says you can type with a physical keyboard or use the on-screen keyboard. Press Enter to submit a guess and Backspace to remove a letter. Each guess must be a valid five-letter English word, and you cannot submit the same word twice. These controls and constraints are described by Quordle.game’s rules guide; they could not be verified against readable current rule text on the Merriam-Webster-hosted page, which required JavaScript. What the colors mean

Read the feedback separately on each board. A letter’s color is judged against that board’s answer, so the same guessed letter can have different colors in different grids.

  • Green: The letter is in the answer and in the correct position.
  • Yellow: The letter is in the answer, but in a different position.
  • Gray: The letter is not in that board’s answer.

How to use the four grids

A guess can reveal useful information on several boards at once, but it does not make the answers shared: every grid has its own hidden word. Check the color clues in each grid independently, then use them to narrow down the remaining answers. The accessible guide recommends using early guesses to test distinct letters and spreading attention across the boards. That is a practical suggestion, not a guaranteed optimal strategy.
