Lift your finger when you reach the last letter. Apple says lifting ends the word.

Start the next word with another swipe, or tap the individual keys. You can mix tapping and QuickPath in the same sentence.
Apple’s iOS 26 iPhone guide to the onscreen keyboard describes QuickPath as typing by sliding between letters without lifting a finger, and notes that it is not available for all languages.

Why QuickPath may not work in your language
QuickPath support depends on the language and regional variant of the selected keyboard. Check the exact keyboard against Apple’s iOS and iPadOS Feature Availability list; support for one variant does not establish support for every variant of that language.

While typing, touch and hold the Emoji or Switch Keyboard key and select the keyboard you want. Apple’s iOS 26 guide to adding or changing keyboards explains these controls. What to check if sliding does not type

Confirm that the onscreen keyboard is open in an editable text field.

Check which keyboard is selected and whether that exact language and regional variant supports QuickPath.

The cited iOS 26 guidance explains how to use QuickPath but does not document a separate QuickPath on/off switch or a complete troubleshooting sequence for every configuration. The documented next check is language availability for the selected keyboard.
Correcting a word typed with QuickPath
Apple notes that tapping Delete after sliding to type a word deletes the whole word. If you only need to change a letter, use the keyboard’s other editing options rather than expecting Delete to remove just one character from that swiped word.
