QuickBooks Online remains a capable cloud accounting subscription for small businesses, but whether it is still worth the cost after its latest price increase depends on the features and user capacity your business actually needs. US list prices now range from $38 to $340 per month, before any temporary promotion. Simple Start covers core bookkeeping and invoicing; Plus is the first tier whose listed features include budgets, inventory reports, and project profitability; Advanced adds higher user limits and workflow tools.
This review lays out the current US plan differences and the trade-offs identified by independent reviewer JR Suralta of Fit Small Business. It is based on official product documentation and that published review, not hands-on testing.

QuickBooks Online plans and current US prices
Intuit and Fit Small Business’s 2026 review list these monthly US prices. They are list prices, not temporary introductory prices. Intuit says promotional offers expire and the subscription renews at the then-current price; check the live checkout page and terms for the amount that will apply to you.
| Plan | Monthly list price (US) | Included billable users | What distinguishes it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Simple Start | $38 | 1 | Core business reports, transaction categorization, invoicing and payment collection, bill organization, mobile access, and accountant access. |
| Essentials | $85 | 3 | Enhanced sales, accounts receivable, and accounts payable reporting; employee time on invoices and appointment scheduling are also listed. |
| Plus | $140 | 5 | Inventory reports, budgets, project profitability tracking, classes, and locations. |
| Advanced | $340 | 25 | Customizable permissions, workflow automation, Excel sync, cash-flow and profit forecasting, batch invoices and expenses, backup and restore, and priority support and training. |
These figures reflect the 2026 US pricing update, not a guarantee of what a particular account will be charged. Intuit said the Essentials, Plus, and Advanced increases began taking effect on each subscription’s next billing date from August 1, 2026; its announcement said the website prices would update August 3. Simple Start was unchanged in that update. Intuit described a six-month price-protection period for new clients. Confirm the current plan terms and checkout price before subscribing.

QuickBooks Online also has limits and features that can change. The user counts above are included billable users; accountant-firm access is separate, with Intuit listing two firms for Simple Start, Essentials, and Plus, and three for Advanced. Those firms must use QuickBooks Online Accountant.
Which plan makes sense for your business?
Choose based on a required workflow or user limit rather than assuming a more expensive plan is automatically better. Since each tier has a different price and feature set, compare the ongoing cost after any offer ends against the features and users you will use.
Simple Start for core bookkeeping
Simple Start is the lowest-priced tier and suits a business that can work within one billable user and needs core categorization, invoicing, bill organization, reports, mobile access, and accountant collaboration. If multiple staff members need billable access, the one-user ceiling is an immediate constraint.

Essentials for more users and added reporting
Essentials raises the included limit to three billable users and adds enhanced sales, receivables, and payables reporting. Its listed employee-time-on-invoices and appointment-scheduling capabilities may matter for service businesses that need those workflows.
Plus for budgets, inventory reports, and project tracking
Plus is the first of these four plans whose listed features include budgets, inventory reports, project profitability tracking, classes, and locations. Consider it when one of those named functions is a real requirement, not simply because the business is growing.
Advanced for larger teams and workflow controls
Advanced includes up to 25 billable users and adds customizable permissions, workflow automation, Excel sync, forecasting, batch entry, backup and restore, and priority support and training. Its higher ceiling and controls are relevant when a team needs them; the price alone does not make it the best choice for every growing company.

What QuickBooks Online does

It also supports invoicing and payment collection, with reminders and online payment options subject to applicable product terms. Bill organization and payment workflows vary by plan or add-on.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Reporting and analysis are tiered. For example, Plus lists budgets and project profitability, while Advanced lists forecasting, batch processing, and additional workflow and permission controls. The feature comparison is the better guide to plan fit than a broad claim that every capability is available to every subscriber.
Intuit says the service works in a browser or mobile app and does not require a software download. Not every feature is available in the app or mobile browser, so businesses that depend on a particular mobile workflow should verify that function before choosing a plan.

JR Suralta, identified by Fit Small Business as a Certified QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor and Certified Xero Advisor, published a review on August 25, 2026. The following advantages and drawbacks are that reviewer’s assessment, not results of independent hands-on testing for this article.

Strengths the reviewer highlights
- Strong core accounting and bank reconciliation capabilities.
- Extensive reporting and automation.
- Scalability across plan tiers and a broad integration ecosystem.
Drawbacks the reviewer highlights
- Higher 2026 prices and features gated to higher tiers.
- Potentially rising costs when add-ons are needed.
- A learning curve for users without accounting experience.
- Limitations for businesses with complex inventory needs.
Suralta’s expert tip contextualizes the price increase: “I wouldn’t judge QuickBooks Online’s 2026 price increase on cost alone. QBO has also become more capable, particularly with Accounting AI and AI-powered banking features that can reduce some of the manual work involved in reviewing, categorizing, and matching transactions.” This is the reviewer’s view, not an Intuit statement or a claim that automation removes the need for human review.

How to decide whether the price is justified
Before selecting a plan, map your needs to the price you will pay after any promotion. A useful comparison includes:
- The full monthly amount after the introductory offer and its renewal terms.
- How many people require billable access, and whether the plan’s user ceiling fits.
- Whether you need enhanced reporting, budgets, inventory reports, project profitability, classes, locations, or Advanced-only tools.
- Whether payroll, bill-pay, or payment functions involve separate add-on costs or product terms.
- Whether your accountant can collaborate through QuickBooks Online Accountant.
- Whether the features you depend on are available in the mobile app or mobile browser.
- Whether your inventory or multi-entity operations are complex enough to expose limitations noted by the reviewer.
