Qualtrics XM for Customer Experience and Medallia Experience Cloud both aim to help enterprises collect experience signals, analyze them, and act on what they learn. Neither has a public, standard enterprise price that can be compared directly: Qualtrics describes customer-experience pricing around interactions, while Medallia describes annual tiers based on Experience Data Records (EDRs). The right choice depends on your channels, workflows, integrations, governance needs, and operating capacity—not a universal winner.
What the platforms have in common
Both vendors position their products as enterprise experience-management platforms. Their broad workflow is similar: capture customer or employee feedback and other experience data, analyze it, present findings, and help teams respond. That overlap makes a feature checklist alone a weak basis for selection. Buyers should test whether each product fits the organization’s actual data sources, decision processes, and frontline workflows.

How the vendors describe their offerings
Qualtrics XM for Customer Experience
Qualtrics’ current pricing page presents an XM for Customer Experience suite spanning surveys, dashboards, analytics, and experience management across customer touchpoints. The page directs buyers to request pricing and says pricing is based on planned usage and interactions. Qualtrics defines an interaction as a data record collected and/or processed to deliver XM insights and drive actions; the interaction types can vary by product. Qualtrics’ current pricing page is the relevant source for its present public packaging description.

As dated context, Qualtrics announced on April 4, 2024 that XM for Customer Experience and XM for Strategy & Research would be priced based on interactions, while XM for Employee Experience would remain employee-based. This announcement is not a substitute for confirming the current terms of a specific quote. Qualtrics’ April 4, 2024 announcement.
Medallia Experience Cloud
Medallia describes Experience Cloud as an end-to-end platform for collecting multiple signals, analyzing experience data, reporting findings, and supporting accountability and action. Its listed signal types include surveys, voice, chat, web behavior, social, and employee feedback. The platform page also describes AI-driven analysis, alerts, case management, integrations, and closed-loop action. These are vendor-stated capabilities, so buyers should validate required functions in a demonstration using their own use cases. Medallia Experience Cloud.
Rank #2
Medallia’s public pricing page describes annual tiers based on Experience Data Records (EDRs). It says EDR pricing covers customer and employee data, analytics on that data, workflows, data security, and self-service capabilities, and directs buyers to contact sales. Medallia’s pricing page.

The most concrete public distinction is the named pricing metric. Qualtrics discusses planned usage and interactions; Medallia describes annual EDR tiers. The available public descriptions do not establish that an interaction and an EDR count the same events or include the same scope. They also do not provide a standard, comparable enterprise price, so it is not possible to determine from public pages which platform will cost less.

- Ask Qualtrics which data records and product-specific activity count as interactions for the proposed configuration, and how projected usage is treated.
- Ask Medallia how EDRs are defined and counted for the channels and data types in scope, and how an annual tier applies to expected volume.
- For both vendors, confirm included capabilities, overage rules, treatment of volume changes, and whether workflows, support, services, or integrations change the quote.
Do not compare a quoted interaction allowance directly with an EDR tier without written definitions and a model using the same use cases and expected volumes.
How to run a fair evaluation
Use the same representative scenarios, sample data, user roles, and success criteria with both vendors. Score evidence from demonstrations or a scoped proof of concept rather than relying on broad feature labels.

1. Map the signals and channels you need
List the customer and employee signals your program must capture, then confirm each can be collected through your actual touchpoints. For Medallia, the public platform description names surveys, voice, chat, web behavior, social, and employee feedback. Confirm the specific collection methods, availability, and configuration needed for your markets and systems with each vendor.

2. Test analysis and reporting on the same data
Bring a representative mix of structured and unstructured data and ask both vendors to complete the same analysis and reporting tasks. Check whether the results answer the questions your teams need to act on, and whether users can inspect the underlying data and apply the required governance.

3. Trace findings into action
Test alerts, case management, follow-up, closed-loop workflows, and handoffs to frontline teams or existing systems. Confirm which roles receive an action, what happens when it is unresolved, and how completion or outcomes are recorded.
4. Validate integrations, governance, and security
Give each vendor the same list of required integrations, access controls, data-handling requirements, security documentation, and industry obligations. Request concrete documentation and confirmation for your intended configuration rather than inferring coverage from general platform language.
5. Scope implementation and ongoing operations
Request a written implementation plan that covers migration, setup, administration, training, vendor services, and the staffing expected from your organization after launch. The public materials reviewed do not provide a like-for-like implementation estimate, so use the same scope and assumptions when comparing proposals.
6. Compare commercial proposals on equal terms
Ask for quotes covering the same use cases, projected volumes, geographies, service levels, contract duration, and support requirements. Review the definitions and assumptions behind each vendor’s pricing unit, plus how contract terms handle growth, reduced usage, and scope changes.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What public information does—and does not—settle
The vendors’ pages establish how they describe their products and public pricing constructs. They do not provide a standardized head-to-head performance benchmark, comparable implementation data, or negotiated quotes. As a result, public descriptions cannot establish which platform will perform better or cost less for a particular organization. The decision should rest on a documented evaluation and proposals scoped to the same requirements.
